Sheila E. (Escovedo) comes from a family of percussionists. Her dad is Pete Escovedo, a famous percussionist and drummer. She played on a lot of Prince albums and he produced the album this comes from for her. She is amazing to watch live on drums and percussion.
Sheila E. dated Prince and he produced this some of her music! ! She traveled with him and played percussionin on his tours for many years! They remained close until his death! You are right, she was heavily influenced by Prince. If you’d played the official video you’d have seen her playing percussion while she danced, it’s really cool! She still tours today!❤❤
Her father is a famous Latin Percussionist, Pete Escovedo who played with Carlos Santana and had a Latin Jazz Sextet with his brothers. That how Sheila E. learned to play.
I'm from Oakland and roughly the same age as Sheila E. For many years while I was a kid, the nightclub 6 or 8 blocks from my house had a sign saying Pete Escovedo and Band performing tonight. As a teenager, it changed to say Pete and Sheila Escovedo and Band. Being underage, I never got to see them perform and while Sheila E must have been going to school the same time as I was, it must have been in some other neighborhood in the area as i never saw or met her. Yes WATCH the video. And, she is from a very accomplished Latino music family, and had a serious relationship with Prince early on. Look her up. Y'all are priceless. BJ is dancin hard!😂

Sheila E. is actually a multi-instrumentalist although she mainly known as a percussionist and drummer. She's played drums for Prince on several of his tours. Not sure what all instruments she can play, but I know she can play guitar too. Most of the musicians from back tended to be able to play many instruments. Special shout out to Eddie M., who is the guy playing the saxophone here and has been a mainstay with Sheila her entire career. You guys should check out the album version of this song, it's an extended version that is 9 minutes long.
Sheila E (aka Sheila Escovedo) got her drumming skills legit. Her father, Pete Escovedo, was a well-known, well-respected latin percussionist. They even recorded an album together. She is FIRE!!
Once again, this brings up the idea that you guys need to do a watch of Krush Groove (She is in that movie, as well as Run DMC, Fat Boys, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys and more).
I saw Stevie Nicks with my brother in Dallas, late 80's Sheila E was the guest performer. It was cool to see those two on stage together. Stevie was way loaded.
Yes Prince and Sheila E collaborated as well as Prince with Sheena Easton. I believe Sheila E Did take over as one of his drummers after the Revolution disbanded.
Sheila E is a bad ass on the drums. She comes from a family of percussionists, sometimes they even tour together. She actually played drums for Prince at one time.
An amazing talent!!!! You have to see some of the videos of here dancing and drumming!! She wore high heels for so long they messed up the tendons in ankles. She has recovered but yeah. She was a high heel woman!! Last time I checked she was still perfoming. Y'all be safe.
OMG - FINALLY! I've been waiting for over a year for SOMEONE to react to this. The video would have been the cherry on top- but the song is SO fantastic - it can stand on it's own. Thanks for this! :)
Great drummer. She was Princes drummer for the "Sign of the Times" tour. I saw her live with her father Pete Escavedo, the whole family are amazing drummers. I've seen Pete 4 times with his Latin Jazz band, once with Sheila. He used to play with Zantana. They are from Oakland, CA. I grew up in the bay area. Carlos Zantana is a big fan of the San Francisco Bay area too.
Yes she played with Prince! I saw them together in 1984 and it was fantastic! Please check out Prince 1+1+1=3 (Live at the Aladdin. Las Vegas) from 2002. Its not only the funkiest performance you'll see, but Sheila E is there. And so is Maceo Parker! You guys NEED to see this! Thanks for what you do. You always make me smile!
@ 3:10… Asia, another artist who played similar kind of music like this was Gloria Estefan in her days with Miami Sound Machine, especially with the song “Conga”, which was a massive hit ☝️😄👍🌅🌅🌅
The lady can play the drums and she does it with an attitude. Very beautiful lady. She got Prince's attention and was with his band for a short time. She knew her time was here for her name too shine like a diamond 💎
Wow that's a great song. I love Sheila E. She's not only a beautiful but also high talented musician. "A love bizarre" was probably her greatest hit. Hey BJ & Asia. Great reaction and nice pick up on that Prince sound Asia. They toured and collabed together on songs. I know it's easier to react to songs with doing just the audio version. But you have to see this video for Glamorous Life to appreciate Sheila E's work on the drums and percussion. Very, very talented lady. 👏👏👏🔥🔥
Sheila E, still at it, still performing , still looking so beautiful and sexy , comes from a famous family including her father Pete Escovido , musicians and percussionist , then she worked with the likes of George Duke in the late 70’s , then Lionel Ritchie in the early 80’s, then Prince produced this album in the mid 80’s , and she forever became a part of Prince’s empire , performing , songwriting, producing , and the drummer in Prince’s studio and touring band for years. She produced and performed a tribute concert for Prince a few years back. I love Sheila E, she’s is so energetic and vibrant and living and loving life!

Hi Asia & BJ, Yes Sheila E. is a percussionist extraordinaire, yes she plays the drums, but she's a "beast" on the "TIMBALES" (the type of drums she plays on stage with the cowbells & cymbals) ala Tito Puente and Chillie Willie Groove!!! She is what we call in Spanish a bonofide: "Timbalera," because she specializes in playing the timbales!!!
Check out the song “Erotic City” by Prince. Sheila is performing and singing with Prince and others. Prince was cultivating musical and romantic relationships with many other artists of the era including Sheena Easton , listen to Sugar Walls, and Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles. He wrote their hit “Manic Monday”.
