Occam's Razor. The second the missing tax on the invoice for parts was highlighted, it became obvious. Someone at Toyota HB is committing fraud and likely taking kickbacks for it. $630 for a $54 coilpack proves it

extended warranty companies have given me trouble before with not wanting to authorize what was recommended but instead pick and choose what theyll pay for and often require tear down before approving work and deciding what they’ll approve when its an internal engine issue. but in this case it seems like something shady is going on with the dealership itself

    • @N1sm0NIC
      @N1sm0NIC Місяць тому +1

Working at a dealer, specifically parts, sometimes the warranty companies will deny any job that would be done right and pick and choose ONLY what needs to be replaced. And that checks out with the "only replaced one head and head gasket on one side" part. However, the coils and plugs is definitely some shady shit going down. The fact there's no tax is the biggest red flag

Honestly, he probably just had an uneasy feeling. Finding a good mechanic is hard, finding an honest mechanic is almost impossible.
The only way to sift through the shit is to know the bare minimum of what it takes to keep a vehicle running and not let a sales rep/mechanic intimidate you when they are aaked questions.

The owner bought a stellantis with 150000 miles for $15000 and paid $4000 for an extended warranty that lasted 30000 miles. Let’s be honest, they got what they deserved considering how little research they must have done. How this guy was able to pay cash, considering how financially irresponsible this car was, is beyond me.

A lot of dealerships suck, and so do mechanics partnered with them.
I had a turbo issue (obd reader picked up turbo sensor error codes)
Went to a dealership, they changed all four of my injectors for some f* reason, car had the same problems.
Went to a second one for a quote and they wanted a 150$ fee to “diagnose the issue” and then “at least 500$ to take down the turbo and service it”. Told them no.
went to an indipendent mechanic, the issue was a small tube under the engine, the turbo vacuum pressure depression tube. It had a tear in it. Fixed it in no time

I work as a service advisor at a VW dealership and this sounds like straight up warranty fraud. Weve gotten a few customers in the past with similar stories that finally just come to us cause the ford or Subaru dealer they bought a used VW and extended warranty from has had their car 6 times in the last 3 months and it still isnt fixed, but when i look at the paper work, just like this jeep in the video, NOTHING adds up or makes sense. Thousands of dollars in "wire repairs" or "engine overhaul" or whatever BS they come up with and the car is just straight up broken. The other thing we see a lot is dealers (including some other VW dealers) trying to use the TDI (dieselgate) warranty extension to cover things that arent covered or in a couple rare cases things that they broke or replaced without needing to and they dont want to take the loss. Shits wild.

I bought a used 2012 dodge Durango, only had 105,000 miles on it. Was shown the carfax from the used car dealer but it never showed flood damage. Ended up going month by month having to get my transmission replaced. And always went through the “extended warranty” only to be told they weren’t going to cover the 3rd transmission. The shitty thing is that the third party warranty is gonna insist he go back to the shop that did the work. My company requires a minimum 12/12 warranty on all parts and labor and we will always hold that shop responsible, because we don't like paying for things twice.
Although, them screwing the company over so bad may change that. I would have the customer call into the customer service line, explain your findings, and have THEM advise on what needs to be done.
This should've had an engine replaced from the beginning. Anything 90k and over will automatically get an engine with my company, since it's ALWAYS cheaper to R&R the engine vs rebuilding it. Plus, there's less liability/room for error.

Fix it and sell it asap. I had a 2015 Grand Cherokee 3.6 V6 with misfire issues and no check engine light. Replaced all spark plugs and the ignition coil for cylinder 3. That fixed the misfires, but then I heard the infamous pentistar tick, this means that the needle bearing for 1 or more rockers had failed. This means that it likely chewed into my intake or exhaust cam. At this point the car was running well enough with no check engine lights. I sold that thing so fast. Oh and this all happened at 85,000 miles with an engine that was maintained regularly.

After a certain amount of money is spent on the vehicle an aftermarket warranty will step in and try to buy the customer out there vehicle to crap it. At the end of the day the warranty company is there to make money, they don’t pay mark up labor or mark up parts pricing. Seen it in the dealership world why keep fixing a car that keeps breaking, it’s cheaper to scrap it and pay out the customer. The only warranties that almost never give up are the factory lifetime original owner warranties, they only give way when parts start get discontinued then they start buying one out of the vehicle.

They don't buy the vehicle they buy the warranty back. I have seen it a million times. Read the fine print. If the repairs exceed a certain amount they have the option to refund the cost of the warranty.

I hear ya doing all the investigating just seeing the miles and the symptoms it take 10 mins of diag to say just swap in a lower mileage motor. Charge the guy for a couple hours and do a right up with your findings including the sketchy stuff and say your recommend a full engine swap at their expense! I am very surprised they even sold him a warranty at 160k.

Just one coil pack for my 04 kia costs 300. Because its a special coil. Dual coil in one. Driver side only. The other side is wire ran to the passanger side.

If i was the customer, i'd contact better business bureau, the warranty company directly, and local news. dealership scamming intentionally or unintentionally due to "Jaime" being incompetent is a crime. the warranty company has every right to sue Toyota of Huntington Beach.

Apparently they know the third party warranty pays no matter what. They don't want to fix it and just want easy money

Not all dealerships are like this, i work at Volvo and all of our mechanics there are honest and make sure we get the job done right and correct the 1st time. It's a problem in the whole industry. There's too many scam places that ruin it for us :(

My roommate is going through the same thing rn but he’s under finance, he put 10k down owes 5k and his car just randomly dies and all electric is fine in terms of dealership checking but they told him if he’s unhappy he can put him into another car but mark this one as a repo so they aren’t out the money selling a lemon and I’m just like no bro sue them

Unfortunately the guy got a Jeep. That alone is a big mistake. That being said, it this is a 3rd party warranty, why did he have to take it to the Toyota dealer to get it fixed? Don’t most of those warranties allow any ASE mechanic to work on the vehicle? And if so, why didn’t they take it to a Mopar shop?

The Warranty companies now go to the dealership, try to diagnose the problem and tell them what to do / what they will pay for. I seen these mofos messing with a customers wiring, testing things and then tell them they dont cover the sensors or wiring even though they were messing with it.. like WTF! Then the adjusters talk down to the certified master techs with 0 comebacks. This all feels like a f'd up situation the extended warranty company created, bet the tech recommend a engine and got denied

I agree 100% with what you’re saying… the difference with the price is obvious… the dealer is most like $255 + /hr probably even $280. So almost 3x the amount /hr… so ofc he would save money with you guys. I work at the dealer and it’s just crazy how much they charge
