Got photos while in route to New England of 618. My photos where in Ohio on Tuesday or Wednesday. Surprised they could carry it down U.S.30 as heavy as it is. Glad they got new homes.
The Valley has to be vying for the largest fleet of GE 80 tonners... They have three operational and at least one other in storage other than these two new acquisitions.
The 618 was rebuilt by Chrome Crankshaft, after arriving at The Seal Beach NWS, Chrome sent out people to Relocate the copper lines to the control stand as they too close to the seat and banged many knee's, the original holes may still be in the floor
Look very closely, and see that the wheels were removed to lessen the weight, and also the height if the transport truck had to go through tunnels or bridges.
Congratulations to the Valley Railroad for your newest additions to go along with your roster.
Pretty neat that they retrofitted the axle journal bearing to newer roller bearings...
Great additions to the Valley Railroad! I hope they will use those locomotives for the Your Hand on the Throttle program.
I like the looks of the Red 80 Toner better than the older ones it doesn't look ancient looking looks more modern.
Thanks for watching
there is a similar loco like that behind the abandoned coal plant near the CSX yard in West Springfield MA

I will miss seeing them switch the Navy pier in Seal Beach. They used to have M5s for horns. I really wanted one of them 😢

7 total including parts unit. 2 operational, 2 new arrivals, 2 OOS, and 1 parts unit
Interesting side note.
The active switcher had 3 axels with journal bearings and one roller bearing axel.

Were they donated or purchased? Just asking, nice they went to a good home.
Connecticut valley is a for-profit so they purchased them to my knowledge.

It's too bad they were trucked, they should have been on a railroad flatcar!
vandals could've gotten if they done that
Diesels. Yuk.
