The ability of the virus to produce gastritis only (vomiting) or enteritis ( diarrhea) or both (gastroenteritis) depends on the virus ability to survive acidic medium in stomach and the time it gets to replicate, which further depends on how good or bad the mucosal immunity (based on IgA), is. So some short lived viruses only can replicate in stomach and dont get the time to go down to intestines, and hence forth only produce infection in stomach called viral gastritis. It presents with sudden onset of vomiting. Depending on the host immune responses and the invasiveness of virus, the virus infection in stomach may or may not cause fever. Some do get it, some dont. Some of the viruses causing gastritis only are norovirus, astrovirus, sapovirus and enteric adenoviruses. Some of them even go down to intestines in some time producing diarrhea sometime after vomiting which we call as gastroenteritis

@@fantasticweb6384 first thing never try medications yourself. Always consult a doctor. Co-amoxiclav is never recommended for gastroenteritis, rather it may make it worse and increase the chances of clostridial enterocolitis. Second thing, 4th gen cephalosporins are overkill for gastroenteritis. These medications are usually given in less developed countries where possibly regulatory laws are relaxed. Sometimes UTI can also present as febrile illness with vomiting, where antibiotics are necessary but that has to be confirmed by a urine dip followed by a urine culture/ sensitivity. Most of gastroenteritis are self limiting illnesses so even if you dont treat it and just carry with oral or NG rehydration, majority of them settle in 3-5 days

Why the vomiting were occuring only in certain situations like going to school.
