He was a most precious soul and I love and accepted every part of his being He loved animals and his friends and me. We stuck together through thick % thin. I was raised Mormon. I walked away as a young adult because I knew in my heart that the God I knew, was inclusive of all People and judgement and shaming are man made. I was brainwashed into believing that my value was based on how closely I followed the teachings of this gospel. The reality is, organized religions are a club with specific rules and belief systems, like any other club. Adults get to chose if they join a religion. Children are indoctrinated and accepted only as long as they are living the life they are told they should live. When children make choices that do not match up with those teachings, they are shamed, shunned and guilted into submission. Lesson learned: if an organization cannot recognize the beauty in your soul and the love in your heart, they do not deserve you.

Honestly Mormons are good people with good intentions, and so many of them try to help anyone in any way they can. I am mother of three (31 , 28 sons and soon to be 13 yr old daughter, in fact for her birthday I got her tickets for her and I in the pit to see her idol up close at Hershey stadium) It's the second concert I took her to see them band that she had snobed her nose at til the past summer . She lives as an only child despite 2 big brothes who are married. I know that she is exposed to so much including friends of hers declaring their sexuality. I am glad that the generation z has the ability to take on and Express themselves. But I worry about the statics of suicidal rates in this generation z. I am a survivor of PTSD and attemt to take mine when I was trigger into episode of PTSD . I WAS 48 years old ..my heart breaks that our youth would suffer with thoughts that haunted me . I was feeling my age at the Philly concert but I was brought to tears when I watched Dan talk directly to the youth about depression and suicide, that it doesn't matter your what your race , religion, sex, polictial , gender or age ...you are loved and your life counts . My daughter who had made fun of my music was embracing the words the music with smile so big , that my heart swelled ..we dance to their music all nite long . She thank me for playing new CD over and over during my delivery job , I dragged her with all those summer nites. she realized that she knew all lyics by heart and loved singing along , got a good job Mom LoL She has got my number or should I say credit card # , I have spent over $1,000 for her to become huge imagine dragons fan . Well worth it , it made us closer and help me to see that no matter how long you have been a parent , it's still on the job training for life . thank God for those role models to help us inspire our kids See you guys from the front row at Hershey, not in the nose bleed section for the birthday girls lol

Which antidepressant did they have your husband on? If it has been 5 years you would no longer have the legal right to file a wrongful death suit against the antidepressant manufacturer but your children retain that right until 2 years after they turn 21. They need to know if he had been given one of these drugs that he did not make a conscious choice to leave any of you behind. The compulsion to die on these drugs are almost beyond comprehension. And often you are not conscious when you do take your life.

I was in Prison when I read the Book of Mormon. It is true, all of it. After a decade of the darkest sins, joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints allowed me to be forgiven of those sins, and start a new life following Christ. My guilt is gone and I feel the Lords forgiveness always supporting me. I now have been an active member for 17 years and the blessings continue to pour out from heaven. To my gay brother and sisters, I love you, but that love is small in comparison to Heavenly Father's love for you. He has given us the commandments for a wise and glorious purpose. Follow Christ, and after this life marvelous things await us all. Each day I pray I will remain faithful till my mortal journey on Earth ends. I am so happy I have the Lords Church, aka Mormon Church; faithful brothers and sisters who sustain the teachings of Heavenly Father always. Despite his influence as the lead singer of arguably the most prominent American rock band out there right now, I am not sure whether or not he will have the power to have church doctrine changed. HOWEVER, I think he IS setting a GREAT example for ALL of us, both in the church and outside of it, about how our attitudes toward others should NOT be those of judgement or shame... no matter what they believe, or who they love, or how they act. We can agree or disagree, but that should always be done in a tone of love and mutual respect. As an active member of the church, my view on LGBTQ issues has evolved over the years from one of complete opposition to the point NOW where it doesn't matter to me what people believe or how they live. God teaches us, and I believe there is ALWAYS something "virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy" about everyone, and as a result, I seek after those things. Gay people were on this earth LONG before I was born, and they will continue to live on this earth after I am gone. What can I control in my life? I can control how I interact with them, and what we teach our children about how they, and everyone else that lives differently than us, should be treated. In my house, we teach love and respect. I have found in the past few years that the more I reach out the hand of love and mutual respect and friendship to people who believe differently than I do no matter their color, creed, or sexual orientation, the more blessed I am in my life. While LDS leaders haven't changed the doctrine, they have made sure to make it known to the members that the church is no longer a place where it is okay to shame those who think and act differently. I don't believe it ever was, BUT there are plenty of instances where imperfect people made imperfect statements or judgments. Leadership has said multiple times recently that they are aware of this issue, and they continue to pray, and seek revelation and guidance from above when it comes to what is the best thing to do, and I have faith the Lord will guide them in their decision making. As a member of the church who admires Dan not only as a musician, but also as a fellow member of my faith, I respect him for taking a different approach to this. Like he said, anyone can lash out and just walk away from the church. Instead, he appears truly desirous to use his platform to help people, and that is admirable!

She was born 1913 She lived to be 103! Died 2017 she taught me all about love kindness companion. I was born 1977 and still people looked at gay women as "tomboys" it's now 2021. My oldest Niece is gay my other Niece is a girl but is also a boy. Its different and there teaching me so much. Just because there Aunt "me" has lived a different way and had certain beliefs, doesnt mean I haven't grown to learn and understand, I love my them with all of my being. Maybe the suicide is more a result of the conflict created by the CULTURE of America vs Orthodoxy. I.e., would the suicide rate be so high if the TV and social media weren't propagandizing the children? One way of testing this is to investigate the suicide rate within orthodox communities that are not exposed to the broader American media culture, like the Amish, for example.

He is brilliant! it's so weird how people cling onto what they are 'taught' (which is basically the info they are force fed) even when they see the truth. Instead of saying most religious people are good people, they were just taught that way...etc why don't they see that it is religion itself which entrapped these good people and led them into doing regrettable things such as discrimination and judging others based on mere sexual orientation and stuff. Everyone seeks connection and to be loved. Mental health difficulties often begin when people are quite young, as a result of trauma and lack of that connection with role models such as parents giving them that secure attachment. People crave that, and seek it in a variety of ways, including through LGBT relationships. There's a piece missing here that's not mentioned in the video. Lack of secure attachment at a young age is related to the mental health issues associated with LGBT. The Mormon church is doing a lot to strive to support this community, offering counselling and leaders and all are invited to attend church. I like the message of stopping shaming and such in the church. But I would remind dan that the church is perfect, the people in it are not. Dan is not asking for simply a policy change. He wants the church to say that homosexuality is not a sin. That is a change in doctrine. The church is built upon the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and modern day revelation. These things came directly from god. Gods law is eternal and unchanging. Gods law does not change because the worlds does. If people disagree with the church by all means it is their right to leave or disagree. The church is built , as are all of them, on a human desire for power. No, the church is not perfect. None are. What God would declare that to get to "heaven" you must take as many wives as possible? I would say, and I’m not speaking for the Church or for anyone else, that God’s eternal laws never change, and in regards to to the Priesthood, His law is that every worthy male can hold the priesthood through His authority. That Law has never changed, but the timing and condition for it to be instilled can change depending on God’s will. I view it similar to how we are all to live the eternal and higher law that Jesus Christ instilled when He came to the earth, but up until that time only the Law of Moses was instilled under God’s timing, for reasons we may or may not understand. We don’t always understand the reasoning behind the way God times things, but He always does everything for the benefit of His children, even if we are blind as to why.
This guy is very talented. Imagine Dragons is one of the best bands to come down the pike in a long time. I am not sure what he is trying to accomplish. The Mormon Church has standards and doctrines. Those will not change. We teach to show love to everyone. No one is marginalized. I’m Mormon and I agree totally with this. Personally, I do not agree with gay marriage. I think these feelings and people’s sexuality, just like we have our addictions or problems that Satan tries to attack, is their struggle in this life. We all have struggles and weaknesses and this is theirs. So to anyone who shames because of this is terribly mistaken and wrong. We should love them and help them through it, having these feelings is okay, it is not BAD or you should not be ashamed to have these feelings. But to act on these feelings is where the “sin” is. Just like if I was addicted to drugs or alcohol, having the want or feeling the need to partake of it is 100% normal. After growing up in the church and feeling the EXTREME guilt and shame for having feelings for men and women, I was deeply depressed and wanted to die, even 10 years after leaving the church because it was so ingrained in me. And not until I simply acknowledged, accepted and loved myself as Bisexual 2 years ago did the depression completely go away. I am finally happy and at peace in my marriage with my husband. It was a very rough 20 years of marriage because of the shame and guilt brought on by the church and it's un-knowing straight members. Please just love and ACCEPT us. It is not our choice. GOD made us this way, to teach love.

This is my testimony, and I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.
When is the film being released? If it has, where can I get it? I'd like to share it and help spread the message.
Despite his influence as the lead singer of arguably the most prominent American rock band out there right now, I am not sure whether or not he will have the power to have church doctrine changed. HOWEVER, I think he IS setting a GREAT example for ALL of us, both in the church and outside of it, about how our attitudes toward others should NOT be those of judgement or shame... no matter what they believe, or who they love, or how they act. We can agree or disagree, but that should always be done in a tone of love and mutual respect.
As an active member of the church, my view on LGBTQ issues has evolved over the years from one of complete opposition to the point NOW where it doesn't matter to me what people believe or how they live. God teaches us, and I believe there is ALWAYS something "virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy" about everyone, and as a result, I seek after those things.
Gay people were on this earth LONG before I was born, and they will continue to live on this earth after I am gone. What can I control in my life? I can control how I interact with them, and what we teach our children about how they, and everyone else that lives differently than us, should be treated. In my house, we teach love and respect.
I have found in the past few years that the more I reach out the hand of love and mutual respect and friendship to people who believe differently than I do no matter their color, creed, or sexual orientation, the more blessed I am in my life.
While LDS leaders haven't changed the doctrine, they have made sure to make it known to the members that the church is no longer a place where it is okay to shame those who think and act differently. I don't believe it ever was, BUT there are plenty of instances where imperfect people made imperfect statements or judgments. Leadership has said multiple times recently that they are aware of this issue, and they continue to pray, and seek revelation and guidance from above when it comes to what is the best thing to do, and I have faith the Lord will guide them in their decision making.
As a member of the church who admires Dan not only as a musician, but also as a fellow member of my faith, I respect him for taking a different approach to this. Like he said, anyone can lash out and just walk away from the church. Instead, he appears truly desirous to use his platform to help people, and that is admirable!
Aman Chabra, just like Dan Reynolds, you say this so beautifully, and EVERYONE could learn from your growth and example of how we should all be "Loving one another."

I grew up mormon but always had problems with the church with me felling gulity for every little thing i did and it hurt i felt bad for things thats natural for everyone to do i felt bad for licking bolth boys and girls i felt bad for having sexual erges it hurt but i decided i had enough and i left i don't hate mormons but alot needs to change and they need to exept that everyone has a diffrent path

What a difficult and brave journey....I as a Christian have struggled with this same situation. I have people in my life who are gay and lesbian. I know what the Bible says about it..but..I also know how much these people mean to me, as friends, and human beings. There is a balance here some place. Like not agreeing, but staying loving! We all sin, and GOD still loves us..and he knows our hearts. Living in guilt and shame is a form of death.. Heart breaking to the core!

She was born 1913 She lived to be 103! Died 2017 she taught me all about love kindness companion. I was born 1977 and still people looked at gay women as "tomboys" it's now 2021. My oldest Niece is gay my other Niece is a girl but is also a boy. Its different and there teaching me so much. Just because there Aunt "me" has lived a different way and had certain beliefs, doesnt mean I haven't grown to learn and understand, I love my them with all of my being. Maybe the suicide is more a result of the conflict created by the CULTURE of America vs Orthodoxy. I.e., would the suicide rate be so high if the TV and social media weren't propagandizing the children?
One way of testing this is to investigate the suicide rate within orthodox communities that are not exposed to the broader American media culture, like the Amish, for example.

it's so weird how people cling onto what they are 'taught' (which is basically the info they are force fed) even when they see the truth. Instead of saying most religious people are good people, they were just taught that way...etc why don't they see that it is religion itself which entrapped these good people and led them into doing regrettable things such as discrimination and judging others based on mere sexual orientation and stuff.
I mean even a guy like him once spread hatred which he deeply regrets now...
I know that for most religion is a pillar of their lives, taking it away would destroy them. But what if what you believed were evil all along? the fact is, if a religion promotes discrimination, one cannot compare the good deed vs the damage this religion has done, cos a believe, a religion should take care of everyone, including the 'minorities'.

Everyone seeks connection and to be loved. Mental health difficulties often begin when people are quite young, as a result of trauma and lack of that connection with role models such as parents giving them that secure attachment. People crave that, and seek it in a variety of ways, including through LGBT relationships. There's a piece missing here that's not mentioned in the video. Lack of secure attachment at a young age is related to the mental health issues associated with LGBT. The Mormon church is doing a lot to strive to support this community, offering counselling and leaders and all are invited to attend church. They even made a website showing their support:

I like the message of stopping shaming and such in the church. But I would remind dan that the church is perfect, the people in it are not. Dan is not asking for simply a policy change. He wants the church to say that homosexuality is not a sin. That is a change in doctrine. The church is built upon the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and modern day revelation. These things came directly from god. Gods law is eternal and unchanging. Gods law does not change because the worlds does. If people disagree with the church by all means it is their right to leave or disagree. However, if you claim to believe in the restoration and the Book of Mormon and all that comes with that, then you have to believe that all of it is true, it is impossible to say that some of it is true and some is not. Including the belief that homosexuality is a sin.
The church is built , as are all of them, on a human desire for power. No, the church is not perfect. None are. What God would declare that to get to "heaven" you must take as many wives as possible? What God would be ok with pedophilia? What God would be ok with beating women into submission? I was born and raised in the Mormon religion but I have never followed blindly. I always have questions and quite frankly, I haven't found any church that could answer them. All of the works you speak of are flawed. Completely. Every single church here is basically s cooperation. It is business. Period. The Mormon church is the single biggest land owner in Florida and they get free labor from the devout serving missions. God or Christ didn't require massive amounts of money, land and malls with rivers running through them. In order to keep the higher ups in the lap of luxury you must instill fear in the lowly followers. Because without the faithful they have nothing. Policy change. That in itself says it all. Stop humanizing God and projecting your own human weaknesses onto God(intolerance, fear of the unknown, man made rules and prejudices). God is not human. God is pure love. If you want a deeper connection with God, it starts by realizing that God is not a man in the clouds.

I believe that Joseph Smith was an opportunist and led a cult-like movement. However, I believe homosexuality just like any other sin is wrong. I also believe in the scriptures to be true and ALL sin is equal to the Lord. With that said; I also believe ppl have freedom of choice and we are not judges; only God has the last word. I also believe that we should display agape love and love regardless to our views. I believe that Jesus forgives and that is all that matters. We should walk in love and not hide behind religion to make anyone feel less than a person. God is preparing ppl for such a time as this to give unmeritedly his favor for teaching and leading by example and not sin shaming. There is a way to teach with love.

You have a very valid point. I would say, and I’m not speaking for the Church or for anyone else, that God’s eternal laws never change, and in regards to to the Priesthood, His law is that every worthy male can hold the priesthood through His authority. That Law has never changed, but the timing and condition for it to be instilled can change depending on God’s will. I view it similar to how we are all to live the eternal and higher law that Jesus Christ instilled when He came to the earth, but up until that time only the Law of Moses was instilled under God’s timing, for reasons we may or may not understand. We don’t always understand the reasoning behind the way God times things, but He always does everything for the benefit of His children, even if we are blind as to why.
If god made people gay and denied them the love they need then i see god as a bad unloving god but hes not so being gay and acting on it cant be a sin

This guy is very talented. Imagine Dragons is one of the best bands to come down the pike in a long time. I am not sure what he is trying to accomplish. The Mormon Church has standards and doctrines. Those will not change. We teach to show love to everyone. No one is marginalized. Members that do try to change doctrine or the commandments of God will be met with resistance from the Church leadership. Does Dan think we need to change God's laws so that there is no longer such a thing as sin? I think he is sincere but there is right and wrong.

I’m Mormon and I agree totally with this. Personally, I do not agree with gay marriage. I think these feelings and people’s sexuality, just like we have our addictions or problems that Satan tries to attack, is their struggle in this life. We all have struggles and weaknesses and this is theirs. So to anyone who shames because of this is terribly mistaken and wrong. We should love them and help them through it, having these feelings is okay, it is not BAD or you should not be ashamed to have these feelings. But to act on these feelings is where the “sin” is. Just like if I was addicted to drugs or alcohol, having the want or feeling the need to partake of it is 100% normal. But when I act on that and use it is when I’ve done something that particularly is not right. It annoys the crap out of me that some people shame people that deal with this. Our leaders of the church have instructed to love them. The way I think of it, the Mormon church itself is true and perfect, but the people of it are not. There will be those members who treat others like this and it is not okay. Great job, Dan.

You cannot equate drinking alcohol and taking drugs to having a relationship with someone of your same sex. I know that is the way you see it because that is the way you have been taught - I once felt the same. As genuine advise, I would tell you that if you really want to show support to "these poor people" as you portray them, refrain from expressing your "views" - just silently send them your love. After growing up in the church and feeling the EXTREME guilt and shame for having feelings for men and women, I was deeply depressed and wanted to die, even 10 years after leaving the church because it was so ingrained in me. And not until I simply acknowledged, accepted and loved myself as Bisexual 2 years ago did the depression completely go away. I am finally happy and at peace in my marriage with my husband. It was a very rough 20 years of marriage because of the shame and guilt brought on by the church and it's un-knowing straight members. Please just love and ACCEPT us. It is not our choice. GOD made us this way, to teach love.
