  • A trip to Ancient Olympia Greece is something I have wanted to do for so long! It is packed with history including the first stadium in the world and the temple of Zeus; one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world.

Loving the videos from Greece. Very interesting and different content from most travel videos. Wish they were longer...
You probably heard the story from your tour guide, but if anyone else is interested in the first woman to enter the Olympic games, her name was Calipatira, and her story goes in very short like that,
Calipatira: the first woman to attend the Olympics.
Callipateira was the first citizen without an institutional role, who defied the death penalty to watch her boxer son Peisidoros compete in Olympia.Coming from an athletic family from Ialyssos, Rhodes, Diagoras who was her father, her three brothers Akousilaos, Damagitos, Dorieus and her nephew were Olympians(winner of OlympicGames), either in Pagratio or in Boxing. When Callipateira was widowed, she took over the preparation of her son Peisidoros to compete in Olympia. In fact, Diagoras was a periodontist, that is, he was one of the few athletes who had won in the Olympic, in Isthmia, Nemea and Pythia Games(this honor also followed his son Dorias who competed 32 years after his father). He even had the reputation of not avoiding blows, but accepting them and responding with stronger ones.
So she traveled from Rhodes to Olympia, and when she got there, she did all the preparation disguised as a man! In the same disguise she watched Peisirod fight and win. Unfortunately for her though, jumping off the platform to go to her son to celebrate, her cloak was caught revealing her secret! She was immediately arrested and brought to court. There, the Hellenic Judges, despite her crime, did not sentence her to death as they should have according to the law, but considering it equivalent to blasphemy to kill by throwing over a cliff, a daughter, mother, aunt and sister of Olympians acquitted her. It is assumed that the undertaking of her son's expensive and demanding preparation played a role, while the moving apology of the Rhodesian woman left no room for the Greek judges to show a hard face. Even more so when there were statues of her father and brothers scattered around the sanctuary. But since then, in order not to repeat a similar event, it was decided that the gymnasts should also enter the stadium area naked!
In Greece, 14 years old kids during secondary school are taught her story,as the historian Pausanias wrote it, durind ancient Greek classes, along with other poems, etc inspired by her, from later artists.

A fantastic short video or Olympia, where has been on my bucket list for a long long time. Because of the geographic location, it's so difficult to get there from Athens. I need to take another special trip to visit west part of Peloponnese next time in Greece. I just returned from my 3rd trip to Greece 3 days ago and visited Delphi and Mycenaean, which both are absolutely "dreams come true" trips. Just subscribed your channel, can't wait to explore more of your videos.

when I was in Athens Greece, I was on train, around 8 pm I relxed, took off my trainers, put my wrinkly bare feet on the seat, wiggling my toes arounds
this man on the train came up to me, told me he could smell my feet from where he was.. he begged I let him smell my feet... I said go ahead smell away.. he asked something like what does the train smell like.. i REPLIED MY FEET FOR SURE.. so for rest of the train ride, I got a foot massage tickled on my feet, and sniffed. and Yes they were reeking Uff
