As a Nebraskan I spoke at the State Capitol for the first time last year against Kathleen Kauth's "pRoTeCt WoMen'S sPoRtS" bill. I only had three minutes which started once my butt was in the chair, but I wish I had more time to credit Vaush on the record for his parallel between transphobia and white supremacy in one of his videos on JK Rowling, pointing to the Omaha race riot of 1919 too. I also wish I had more time to cite Abigail Thorn for her analogy of performing gender in her coming out video. Despite all of that, I'm proud of myself for speaking publicly on queer issues and tearing Kathleen Kauth's bill and claims apart, and I never would've accomplished that if it weren't for watching my first Vaush video four years ago (it was "Kaitlin Bennett Has Completely Lost It").

I am honestly surprised by the bathroom nonsense. What is a trans bathroom? We had unisex bathrooms in college and at university. And I've even seen them in livestock markets - just to show that it's not just the 'woke' university types using them. The reality is, if they are designed to simply be cubicles and the sink area is open, nobody actually notices, and arguably they are much safer than putting vulnerable women into one closed off area.
@@squidward5110 The problem is that we typically use two separate rooms in the first place. Have one large room and get rid of the door and the urinals. Have four cubicles and no door. Or a glass door to the sink area. Or put cubicles along a corridor with their own sinks.
@@squidward5110 You can have unisex bathrooms with a smaller room with urinals - that livestock market example does just that. I think one of the reasons they keep pushing this even though it's not _that_ effective is because it is a _very_ difficult subject to argue over. I mean, even me, I'm trans and I have _never_ not known my gender since I could remember/speak/etc. Like 2 or 3 years old... but a question like "How do you know your gender" doesn't have a nice little answer packaged with a bow, no matter who you are. I know my gender because I'm a human and every human has one. Like... in order to explain it more thoroughly or logically I need to present medical studies of trans people. It's not easy to articulate these things in a sound bite. And a LOT of people are ignorant and isolated so it's just something they can keep on hammering without worry
Someone from across the pond here, I dont understand on a basic level the goal from their political take. If you dont believe trans people then; What the hell are you campaigning against. By proxy of not believing it exists, you dont have anything to fight. It's not a threat, it's not real. If you believe trans people then; Trans people remain trans people before or after you allow legislation that allows them to transition. They just hide more if you make it an unsafe environment. So what's really being affected here? The visibility of trans people? It looks really infantile to push legislation to hide something you think is icky when there are bigger problems. A large part in why this strategy is not very affective against liberals, centrists and even some conservatives. Like, they want to focus on hiding people being trans so bad, but they dont give a shit about the optics of their vets being homeless and starving after serving. I'm pretty sure that making social policies to protect their vets who have served their country from a patriotic angle would do wonders for their political stance over this. And yet they entrenched themselves in anti trans rhetoric angles to appeal to... who? irrational people that respond emotionally to something they dislike as a gut reaction. That's a double edged sword. Those same people will discount, discredit and turn on you the second you dont conform to their level of extremism on any number of xenophobic/racist/homophobic talking points. I really just dont understand.
Not to mention that because trans are a minority of a minority, it’s far less likely for someone to know a trans person which in turn makes it all the more easier for conservatives to dehumanize them.
I've been thinking about this for a while. Conservatism needs hierarchy. A way to be and a way to not be. Somebody has to be living 'wrong'. If they lose the fight on trans issues, what does that mean? They lost women's suffrage, they are losing racial civil rights, they lost gay marriage, while we have deplorable treatment of indigenous people they can't do the things they used to. Some of us are old enough to remember conservatives against rights for people with disabilities (some of that is still going on). They are getting massive push back on Christian nationalism (not enough but still) so their religious freedom claims are turning on them thanks to the Satanic Temple. If they lose here, what's next? Organizing against furries? We are backing them up against a ledge in their view, where do they go from here? Dems will hurt people to protect capital, they just aren't mask off bigoted about it. What differentiates a Republican if they can't even enforce gender?
FYI, what trans people want to know from our allies is whether you are with us or not. When they come to arrest us for having "illegal" medications or getting "illegal" surgeries, will you defend us? Or are you going to wave us goodbye while sending "thoughts and prayers" and telling us how valid we are? This is not performative for us; this is life or death.
I don’t think progressives will abandon trans rights like that. Remember, a HUUUUUGE proportion of the population are gay or bi or queer in some way. Most of those people realize that in many ways, they fight the same fight - a right to pursue and express sexuality and gender that is outside the norm. But, like you say, the VITAL thing for trans people, that gay and bi people can’t relate to, is access to gender affirming medical treatment. I can say for me personally that all the affirmation and respect in the world could not have saved me. Medical treatment, my surgeries and my testosterone prescription, was absolutely without question what made my life worth living. I see some progressives who fail to understand how severe dysphoria can be. It kills people. Vaush himself speaks flippantly about trans people with their birth genitals as if most trans people are people who are confortable with that. But those who suffer most and are in most need AREN’T those who will be okay with a limited medical transition. I NEEDED bottom surgery to live my life with basic wellbeing and fullfillment. Medical transition was, and is, my lifeline, and all allies MUST understand that social validation can never be enough.
@fromeveryting29 I think your right that trans rights won't be forgotten but so many gay and bi people are trying to split from trans people that they don't realize the leopards will soon either their face

Sport "bans" are not "anti-trans". Its a factor such as with doping, if a body has developed under testosterone no amount of hormone changes can revert that after the fact. An adult with male hormones during adol./teen will be stronger than the average female. Therefore, they will have an advantage over those with a non-male hormone balance during that time. You cannot revert that in adulthood. The result of allowing trans performers (if formerly male) is that the majority of winners will be trans. If that is what people want, sure, but that will generate a lot of anger among many, such as women who may feel pushed out, fueling a new form of sexism.
BS. I live in Texas, and the people pushing "transwomen out of women's sports" are largely the same people who bitched and moaned about Title IX and scream about the woke women's national soccer team. They don't give a damn about (or actively denigrate) women's sport; this is just an excuse to push back against advancement of understanding and decent treatment of trans people. Utah passed such a law despite the fact (as pointed out by the Republic Governor) that barely a handful of trans people participate in high school sports in Utah, among a total of about 70,000 kids. So their legislature spent untold hours and public funds writing and passing a law for a number of kids you can count on one hand. Major sports organizations like the NCAA actually do the research on the issues that you are armchair quarterbacking, and have policies that are designed to weigh the balance between integrating trans people into sports against competitiveness. But they have done the actual research - talked to hundreds of athletes and coaches, etc.
@@bobbun4369 Follow along, bobo. The OP was about sports bans - i.e., laws prohibiting trans people from participating on teams of their gender identity. No one is saying that a person who raises concerns about competitiveness is thereby anti-trans, nor that all anti-trans people do not care about women's sports. But perhaps you can show me just how much research most legislatures have actually done on the subject before passing sports bans. If a legislature simply passes a ban without engaging the research, then it's a fair inference that they're just anti-trans.

I am honestly surprised by the bathroom nonsense. What is a trans bathroom? We had unisex bathrooms in college and at university. And I've even seen them in livestock markets - just to show that it's not just the 'woke' university types using them. @@MV-oi5jlbecause Florida has laws, that places restrictions for people seeking gender affirming care, that enough of a good reason to move.
Nobody made it unsafe for him but himself
If you dont believe trans people then;
What the hell are you campaigning against. By proxy of not believing it exists, you dont have anything to fight. It's not a threat, it's not real.
If you believe trans people then;
Trans people remain trans people before or after you allow legislation that allows them to transition.
The truth is complicated and lies are quick and easy
@@violetsonja5938 Yeah then they would have to display their religion in more difficult ways like _acting like Jesus_

@@StarWarrior008 No you aren't. At least not the large part of your group. There's an article by the human right's watch called “I Want to Be Like Nature Made Me”. Go read it. You've been doing this for decades WITHOUT consent on minors so young they coulnd't even understand what "daddy" or "mommy" means, much less consent. It's only now that people want to do it by their own volition you happen to suddenly see an issue with it. Where's the consistency? You're okay with... What did you call it? Chemically castrating minors in order to change their sex when they're born different in cases where they either don't consent or are unable to consent but you're not okay with people of all ages making an informed decision to do something with one of the lowest regret rates of any surgery? The only consistency here is that being different from a man or a woman is not okay and we call that bigotry. Oh and for the record, you like to sling that phrase around. "Chemically castratating minors". Are you saying cancer survivors mutilated their own bodies? Testicular cancer and transitioning surgery use many of the same procedures, particularly the ones you have issues with to the point of needing to load your descriptions with negatively charged words in order to justify. If you think transitioning is "evil" then you'd be saying the same about cancer survivors and many others. Are women who get breast enlargement surgeries all mutilated abominations? On that note, you fail to specify if it's the kids own choice or something else. It's funny because I've never seen any of you consider if it is actually the kids own conclusion that they arrived at by themselves. And it absolutely is at 99.7% of trans people being happy they went through with it. But the image you creeps like to paint is one of eroticism. Where young kids are groomed into making unhealthy changes to their bodies. And the fact that you need to paint it that way just proves you would not be able to justify your rampant fantasies about what kids do with their bodies. In case you haven't realized yet I'm doing the exact same thing when describing you and since we all know you got super defensive right about now you should realize it works. You've fallen hook, line and sinker for ragebait to make you think there's some grand conspiracy to, for no apparant reason or benefit to anyone, convince young kids to spend months going through trial and interrogation alike to do something you seem to think they wouldn't have done if they were to actually make an informed choice. Difference is your interpretation of being informed is to never teach them anything because any kind of lgbtq+ book that actually talks about this is banned on the spot from LEARNING FACILITIES! LITERALLY WHERE PEOPLE GO TO LEARN ABOUT THIS! Think I'm wrong? Consider this. Has there ever actually been an lgbtq+ book that you've been completely okay with them reading? If not, consider that you might just be a bigot. And I mean that with all respect
@@VitaeLibra As soon as they say 'castrate' you can pretty much be sure their motive is bigotry. "Oh, how can I pick the absolute worst thing to say to mischaracterize what is happening with trans people?" Yeah, they are simple minded and bigoted.
@@monicadaniels784 You don't even need to go that far. Just the basic fact they have such a diehard opinion on a topic that has nothing to do with them is the bigotry in and of itself. Nobody cares whether it should be allowed to clip the wings of captive birds so they can't fly off. Not to compare people to animals but you get the point. That's completely fine. But when it comes to an informed human who is not only consenting but actively begging for this process to go faster then all of a sudden it's "mutilation" to remove something. As always, by calling trans people mutilated sinners or whatever they're also calling testicular cancer survivors that. Nobody seems to want to acknowledge what they themselves are actually saying though... almost as if it's understood that they don't mean to call cancer survivors abominations... you know... because they're bigots and the words they use are meaningless and only there to csrry their bigotted intent. Oh and don't even get me started on how it's only ever trans women being targeted and harassed!
Sadly, half the country doesn't care about logic.
All their baskets are rotting.
But I thought most Americans are against anti-trans policies. Why are they increasing in intensity?
Because the GOP is desperate & full of crazy evangelicals who believe people like me (trans folks) are some sign of the coming apocalypse or some stupid shit like that. Their base are also dumb as rocks who believe every conspiracy theory put to them & they think this is what the voters want. Keep 'em angry, keeps 'em coming to the polls, even if the politicians can't govern to save their lives.

New Jersey may be a sewer state, but at least we aren’t on that list. And that I can say with confidence that I’m glad. I have nowhere else to go.. closest relatives I got are in Florida.. I can’t move from one state to an even worse state.. I’m pretty much screwed if NJ is next..
i wouldn’t worry about new jersey, it’s pretty heavily blue, especially with the proximity to NYC and DC
@@solluxstark4474 we do unfortunately seem to have an anti-trans bill, but I hope that too gets shot down.. no Project 2025 type stuff, just the typical “trans people not allowed in schools, sports, or to exist until 18”.. while there are slippery slopes, I’m hoping this one is a metal slide in summer heat. Not going anywhere.
I would lilke to meet the female who advocates for a unisex toilet/changing room for no other reason than "just because".
If females does not want to share bathrooms and toilets with males, they shouldnt have to. It's perfectly understandable.

The GOP is hoping to win the popular vote for the first time in 20 years and are relaying on red states to make up the gap between popular vote vs electoral votes.
The GOP will never win the popular vote. It's probably going to be even worse for them than in 2020. That's why Republican controlled swing states are turning up the voter suppression to 11.
Lol that's cute.
@TheMahayanist It is the GOP keeps losing people but keep changing the rules I hope their out dated views will continue as a minority.
Why not use the word 'evil' instead of 'demonic?' leave that to the religious hystericals
why the usage of satanic panic terms? its so cringe "demonic"

It’s normal to not like Nazis
You think trans are nazis?
Do not compare them to Nazis
Please give us a list of the similarities between trans people and Nazis
I expect almost 0 of these to get passed
I'm sure some of them will, just like in Ohio. I expect my anxiety to go up this year and I genuinely hope karma continues to catch up to the people pushing this crap, like it did with the Zielgers.

I don't see what the problem is with people taking hormones and trying to fit stereotypes. How does that hurt anyone?
If you are cis, does anyone comment on the stereotypes you try to fit. Just sayin! I agree, it doesn't hurt anyone.
@@monicadaniels784Guys generally just wear what's comfortable with minimal grooming. It's more women who try to adhere to unhealthy cultural stereotypes, because they tend to get more attention for their looks.
I think that cultural stereotypes about how people should act and look are generally very harmful, so I don't like reinforcing them whether it's a cis or trans person.
@@mobus1603 Lol unless we walk are naked (frowned on in most places) we all wear something, have things we like to do, people we relate to. I don't see associating with a stereotype as inherently bad, if it is what you relate to. I do advocate being true to oneself. I tend to be binary female in my way of thinking, but if I want to do something other than that I will. I agree that imposing the 'shoulda's' on people is kind of sucky.
The political gridlock is by design. Even when Democrats have a super majority like back in the early days of Obama they still don't end up doing anything with their newfound leverage. Let's face it politics is kabuki theater and as long as the donor class enjoys the show that's all that matters. Why actually do things when you can just talk about doing things with occasionally sprinkle in some symbolic gestures like painting a street with the words black life's matter. Rather than fixing our privatized corrupt presence systems. So sure we can say thoughts and prayers but doing something about gun violence in this country well maybe will open up a committee to talk about it.
Classic case of projection.
Omg hello early chatters
There's a photo of Donald Trump I think holding a pride flag early on in his trying to be president iirc...

@@erikheymann9390you are right. No body really cares about women’s sports. We care about being fair and recognizing reality
The problem is what you describe is literally a synonym of the entire republican party talking point from the standpoint of the economy. Of all competitors, only a few will actually be winners. So in case I become the winner, the rules need to be in place to protect me being a winner. This is the same as most republicans will never be rich, but just in case, let’s tax the rich less just in case i find myself at the top.
@@TnRinVegas Early on in my law firm career it was unwittingly demonstrated to me that I was sacrificing non-work activities that I really enjoyed, under the guise that I would occupy the corner office someday. Later on, my law firm had business development conferences that only confirmed it. Partner after partner was describing the way they got their book of business and maybe 50% (if I'm being very generous) was about building that book of business from the ground up. Much of it was about a relative, an older partner retiring, some happenstance social connection like church membership, etc. But so many young lawyers bought into the idea that they would be in that position soon, despite the clear evidence around them that only a handful actually get there. I likened it to telling a bunch of teenagers that if they sacrifice their educational opportunities, they can get basketball scholarships and then sign lucrative contracts in the NBA, nws that only a tiny fraction actually make it that far. A moment's reflection should reveal that a system with so much disparity can only be set up this way - i.e., with very few at the top.
