I like how when you get frustrated about something you don't get mad. When your students didn't behave when you had a sub and you gave them consequences instead of being mad at them. I appreciate that
Agreed. However what she did at least in my book sounded less like consequences and more like putting in place new procedures and management to fix a problem that arose when she is not there. Consequences don't last forever whereas procedures are permanent.
I try to just adjust and move on... It can be really hard at times but each day is a clean slate. I figure out if there is anything I can do procedure wise to make life easier or help manage what's going on, and it not just try not to sweat it (easier said than done for sure)
I took a personal day to extend my MLK Day long weekend to go to the Smoky Mountains as well! I just took the Friday before. It was my second “fun” personal day in 8 years of teaching. 🥴 Much needed!
@@mrs_katie_in_elementary We have two young boys- 3 and 4.5. So, our activities were centered around them. They love swimming and playing at the hotel more than anything. 🥴 We still got out and ate good food, went to the aquarium, played some mini golf with them, shopped a little, and walked the strip in Gatlinburg. We were a little disappointed to see some of the dinner shows weren’t open for the month of January, but that was okay. Breakfast at the Pancake Pantry every morning was hands down one of the highlights of my trip. 😋 I hope you did all kinds of fun things as well!
Well Katie, Sometimes you can only do so much when your students lose their stability over you taking a day off. Sometimes when you're gone, they're done. Sometimes it may take new procedures and new systems to fix loose ends and even with that I am proud of you for the way that you handle everything like a champ and set everyone and everything back on track. Also, I'd much rather hear you ramble than watching some if not all of the educational knock off programming that comes on local tv stations on Saturday or Sunday Mornings today. At least you end up telling something that either gives me a laugh or reminds me of something from my past. Keep doing what you are doing. - Dwight
The Tale of Despereaux is one of my favorite books!!! My middle school kids liked it during 1st and second chapter Friday. They felt so bad for Despereaux and thought his mom needed an attitude adjustment

What reading curriculum do you use? We are adopting this year and I am on the committee. I just finished reviewing Benchmark for first grade and I did not like it! It is not based on the science of reading and the lessons are not very clear. Next I am reviewing Wonders. I would love your input!
I wasn't there but so neat that someone had a matching lanyard! I hope it was a BLAST! We use the myView Literacy curriculum by Savaas and it is not my favorite... The spelling lists and word study patterns do not follow a logical progression, even for third grade, in my opinion. I also reviewed some of the first grade material and it seemed to complex. I taught with the older edition of Wonders. I hear the new versions have better phonics instruction. If I had to choose at this moment I'd choose Wonders over myView for sure.

AR stand for Accelerated Reader. It is a program where students read books at their level and when finished, take a short quiz on the book to see how well they understand it. The students can earn points, have reading goals, and track their progress on what they read in a year etc… The district usually pays for it. I personally love it.

I’m sad to say that I might need to unsubscribe to your channel and stop watching you’re videos all together. I don’t know if you’ve always been like this and your first 7 months or so of vlogging was you not coming out of your shell. It seems as if UA-cam life is kind of getting to you. I know as a mom, if my son is acting out, first I need to access the situation and then I need to look at myself because I realize sometimes he’s being a reflection of me and God is using him to open my eyes to a change I need to make in me. If choose to look away from what God is trying to open our eyes to in ourselves, even though it’s painful and humbling, we miss out on the growth He wants to give us. Given that you are a teacher, spending the majority of their school year with them, don’t you have just as much of an influence on them as their parents do? Your last year teaching in Alabama, yes, I know you said in a recent video you would still be there if you could, but your students seemed like your world and even a day that didn’t go according to your plan was a pretty great day. Now it seems like it’s either not a good day or it wasn’t awful. When things go according to your plan though, they’re a good day with no real joy. Also, you mentioned a child died of cancer and skipped right into doing a funny thing you guys did that your school does for them with no remorse. I’m not trying to be rude, but what if the shoe was on the other foot? I know your not a mom, but if it was my kid that lost their life to cancer and I saw this video, I would be heartsick. I really liked watching you, but you seem to be a little to into yourself as time goes by. If you go back and watch your old videos from teaching in Alabama, it’s like a whole different you.
