- Hello everyone! I haven't done a long week in my life video like this in a second, but I am so happy to get this video up for you. I thought about not posting this, because it is literally all over the place, but you know, that is what teaching is right now. We have good days and bad days, days that make sense and days that feel confusing, but we are all in this together. I go through many different emotions this week, but I am ending it on a hopeful note. I am hopeful that this feeling is not forever and that things will get better with time. I think my biggest takeaway this week was the reminder to pour into ourselves. I talked about how important it was to eat breakfast, lunch, get some sun, go on a walk--we need to fit this into our lives so we can feel good for those around us. I'm happy I was reminded of this and hopefully it serves as a reminder for you too. You deserve to feel GOOD! Sending you so much love!

It's crazy how many parallels there are in our teaching stories. I am also going back to teaching, in middle school, after taking a year long mental health break, leaving teaching high school because of a gun related incident near my classroom. It's really comforting to know that there is someone else, states away (I'm from Maryland), who is going through the same thing. So thank you for sharing parts of your journey back to the classroom. It's doing more than you realize.

I’m entering into year 3/4 in pursuit of my bachelor’s in Secondary Education and English! Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed, and like there is no way I will feel prepared enough to teach in only 2 YEARS!! However, my excitement for the future is overwhelming!! I always watch your videos for a boost of inspiration and strength during my times of insecurity. Thank you for being the embodiment of love and joy!!

You will never be fully prepared. Teaching is one of those careers that you learn as you go, you just have to figure out what works for you in the classroom. And don’t compare yourself to other teachers! You’ve got this!!

I so relate to your words about forgetting to eat and drink! I’ve been back teaching in person for a few weeks now. This is the first time since the beginning of March that I’ve been in my classroom, and I find myself forgetting to eat and drink too! Wearing a mask all day requires being even more intentional in drinking water. I ended up super dehydrated by the end of the day my first few days back. The struggle is real! Best wishes for a great school year in these challenging times!

I'm doing the One-Word Project with my 7th graders this week! I'm starting by giving them a word search (using Kami so they can highlight the words). The word search is all words they can choose from if they're stuck. Then they will create the collage of their word using Jamboard. Finally, they will use Flipgrid to record themselves explaining what their word means and why it is important to them. ♥️
I’m starting my first day of student teaching tomorrow! Watching this video helped ease my anxiety, so thank you ❤️ This year will be incredible

When I was a student having to decide which career path to choose it felt like my heart was pulled towards social work and teaching. Ultimately I went with social work and have been practicing for a few years now but still often wonder what life would be like if I had become a teacher instead. I have so much respect and admiration for the profession, what you do for your students, and for your vulnerability in sharing with us on the internet. Hopefully, as time goes by classes will become more "normal". I am a uni student and seeing how classes in another country are in such a different time is inspiring and a way to motivate me when I get back to my student life.

This is my first time commenting one of your videos, but I had to do it. I just want to let you know how much you have inspired me! I had always knew that I wanted to be a teacher, but I let people influenced me into taking a different path. 3 years ago I was so unhappy pursuing a nursing career that I didn’t like, just because people told me that was the “best option.” I ended up failing Anatomy lol I dropped out of college because I thought that it wasn’t for me, even though I was so excited about going. I decided to give it another try, this time my parents talk me into taking the Medical Assistant Program. Again I ended up dropping college for the second time. I was so frustrated and for almost 3 years I felt like I would never be good enough for higher education. Thanks to your videos I found the courage to pursue what I really wanted. I went back to college and without letting anyone know, I change my major to Elementary Education. Best decision ever! I’m know a sophomore, and I know there’s still a long way to go but I couldn’t be happier. I finally feel peace inside me, and I can’t wait to one day become an awesome teacher just like you!❤️

I completely feel you on not only navigating through COVID but also being the new kid! I graduated in December with my Occupational Therapy Assistant degree then started working mid February right as COVID began to hit.. I had to learn not only how to do my job, work with my team, & build rapport with my kiddos but also how to do tele-therapy & then work with a million new policies on safety & hygiene as the kiddos slowly transitioned back into the pre-school. It's been an extremely overwhelming year and I feel like every week brings on a new challenge lol... not to mention I moved into my new apartment in a new city Feb 15 & began work Feb 17 lol let's just say 7 months later I'm still not completely unpacked and nothing is decorated hahaha #OVERWHELMING --- thank you for your videos for inspiration and to let me know I'm not alone in this journey, our careers may be different but we are still both teaching kids skills for life and putting them first through all this

The first 10 min you said you were tired and emotional like 6x. lol I was like girl you got a bun in the oven?! haha glad your happy to be back in the classroom! edit: I did not see your previous videos about the tragedy, I apologize. You returning back to teaching is very brave. I would be emotional too! Last year, I was at a park with my 4-year-old and there was a shooting less than 100ft away and someone was killed. I was recovering from a spinal injury and somehow gained this super strength to pick up my son, run and get us to safety. I understand how traumatic that can be! I have not since returned or even driven past that location. God bless you on your teaching journey. As a fellow educator, you are an inspiration.

It’s my senior year and in MI we won’t be in the classroom this year until at least November 😕. The year I worked so so hard for and I’m going to be missing out on so much. My heart has been torn between teaching or a pediatrician. Children definitely have my heart! I’m still going back and forth between the two but my heart is going towards teaching right now. Florida has my heart too so I guess it depends on if I move to Florida or not! But you’re such an inspiration to me. Your classroom looks beautiful so far.

Five Foot One Teacher I SURVIVED!!!!!! 😭🙏🏻 I got meet my kiddos and their families today.
I've been interviewing all summer and every interview/potential job I almost got fell through and it's so defeating. This is now my 1 year mark of searching for a teaching job and i'm scared that the more years that go by that I won't find a position for me (i'm elementary). I'm trying to be hopeful and waiting for the perfect school and timing but all the no's definitely are hard. I would love any advice or encouragement from you
Hi Elena! First of all, I am so sorry that it fell through. It is so hard right now and you are not alone. I know a lot of friends that are still looking as we speak, but I know that the right opportunity will open up for you and when it does it will feel so right. That is my hope for you because I am sure you are so passionate about this. Just stay strong, even though I know it can be tough sometimes. We're all rooting for you!
Don't give up. You will find where you are supposed to be. Did you ever look at private schools? A lot of times they don't post jobs and rely on word of mouth. It's how I got my job.
