I'm new to beekeeping, but I really like your videos. You show the good, the bad and the down right ugly. You don't sugar coat anything, you say how it is. I look forward to many years of content to content to come. Thanks.
Hello Ian, You were not sure why the bees had not gone through the newspaper. Two things I find helps, is making a number of holes the size you would have in your feeder buckets to get them started, also wet a small area of the newspaper with a little syrup. I have never known it to fail. Kind regards, Tony Marsh. UK.
I bet it would be quite interesting to be your step and fetchit guy for a couple of weeks. Your observations and techniques are quite interesting. Wish i was young enough to follow you around.
I just want to thank you for sharing this In my experience i don't merge queenlees hive with other i prefer to add a frame with fresh 1 day old eggs so the queenless hive can go ahead build new queen by their own The other method is to spray the queenless hive with non chemical Perfum and the other hive that has a queen with the same perfume so that both hives get the same smell and will be merged in just 15 minutes But if the queenless hive have a false queen if you understand what i mean i just get this hive away from the bees yard about 400 metres and drop the bees on a newspaper the working queen will be back to their hive and you should add new frame with fresh eggs 1day old and honey frame at the same place also you have to keep their own box so they start to build their own new virgin queen Wael Golan Heights
Had some nucs take a step back about the same time that first big hatch started .. figured the winter nest did its job gave everything it had then died ... their growing now but wish i had put feed on them cause they got dry quick .. got the buckets back on now .. next year ill do better .. its a whole different ball game managing over wintered colonys ..
I love watching your channel to hear your perspective. I know you know male from female, but I couldn't help notice you referred to the worker bee as, "this guy...he flew away."
There is a theory that field bees often sleep out of the hive. It has been found here that bees will fly to canola up to 6 km away. It seems that if they are still out at night fall, they will just "sleep" where they are and continue back to the hive the next day.
I believe.....not knowing......that you could just smoke the bees really good in both boxes and combine them right away since all the bees would smell the same like smoke.
Does that top weaker box have its own entrance or must go through the paper and lower box? And what about if your just combining colonies, top entrance?
You prolly dont give a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my brother recently =)

Your passion to your craft is outstanding!! 👍
Next level beekeeping - drinking coffee through your veil
Your single late night bees camped out overnight! Great to see the sun warmed them up & they lived through it.
I bet it would be quite interesting to be your step and fetchit guy for a couple of weeks. Your observations and techniques are quite interesting. Wish i was young enough to follow you around.
Maybe the newspaper was the politics page from the other party.
I know I can't get through it either.

Ha ha ha 😂

You can tray spraying the newspaper with water with sugar. That will speed up the process.

Cape Bee
I believe that aswell
You did not drink that coffee through your veil!!!
I know I saw that and thought... What just happened here?
Yep all the hives have a queen and steppler is the King probably got bees in his cup so the fly screen strains it
I had another look he might actually be human the cup might’ve just been empty
why would you not? My big issue Is that I cannot for the life of me figure out how to eat my sandwich the same way.
Ha ha ha you guys make my day lol
Haha nice Ian i normally drink beer through mine lol cheers Dan from Aussie land 🍻🍻
Danny Higgins mmm beer
ML told me he doesn't use newspaper any longer, he uses a spritz of HBH to mask pheromone. That would speed up the mergers.
Wow, that’s bold
Never tried that but then again, I don’t do anything when merging my nucs through summer
wow drinking coffee through the bee hood. who knew.
like your new camera much clearer great job
Starting to look like spring in that background finally! Could it be everything is starting slow (2 weeks behind) because of your weather this year?
How big do your nucs need to get to before you move them to a 10 frame box.
I believe.....not knowing......that you could just smoke the bees really good in both boxes and combine them right away since all the bees would smell the same like smoke.

Yes but here I’m merging two different sized colonies

thank you....I thought so.
Maybe the return of that cold snap & snow forced them to huddle for warmth
Just like everything else in newbie bee-keeping. Observation, I can drink my pop, through my head screen!
What is the purpose of that material you are using under your cover?
great job 🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻👏🏻
I tip syrop on the newspaper, they automatically cleaning's it and oops, they have chewed the newspaper!
Richard Noel
Nice tip
Does the news paper have to have French or English print on it to make this work ? :)

😂

Matthew Sweeney
No top entrance
Bees working at their own pace....
Are those merging boxes each containing there own queen ?
paul dow
Yes
They did not like reading that particular newspaper.
Question for you if I may do u use 5 frame excluders for the queen and if so where do you by them please.
He is using 2 10 fame excluders on top 3 6 frame nucs
What are those white strips you put into the nuc at 5:30?

You really need Tim Hortons to sponsor your channel.

@Korbin Jericho Yup, I have been using instaflixxer for months myself :)
When merging colonies, does it matter if the queen is in the top box or bottom box?
Как можно попасть к вам на стажировку из Сибири

Robert Smith
