What about Rick Astley despite the damn memes turning the guy into an internet joke but the guy can fucking sing and still performs (in a suit usually.) Also don't forget about Sir Elton John who side aged but his voice aged very well and is still writing new songs even.
I spotted something that I have never seen before in all the concerts that I have been too and there were many. When the late Robert introduces the guitarest he steps aside and when he acknowledges the drummer he does the same. This is to make sure that the focus is on them. Now that was a class act.
Too many drummers hunch over the kit. You can blame as much as i hate saying this as they are all legends but Buddy Rich, Eric Delaney, Louie Bellson and even Gene Kupra for that. Upright playing style is the best way to play the drums.
@@kenthemanmcmillan8965 really depends on how big the kit is too. Max’s son Jay plays a pretty decent sized kit in Slipknot, so I believe he’s bent over a lot.
What I like about this, is the raw apparent talent displayed here. It is the real deal. No studio corrections here. This is HIS real voice, no lip syncing here. This IS as good as it gets. Today's performers seem to cheat, and even some of the older ones do, with managers using gimmicks off stage using devices to electronically fix the pitches of their voices. NOT here, this is the real singing voice live, and on display, and it is refreshing to hear. RIP. WE longer have this kind of talent anymore. To much studio work, and then audiences are disappointed by the real performances. Thanks for posting this performance, it is a gem. Love it. Michelle Reed
Agreed, Real talent, what you hear is what you get. I don't use autotune on any recordings, so when I sing live, the audience is getting the same quality. No disappointments! I think it makes you work harder to get your vocals better.
Beautifully stated michelle reed! This is authentic alright. I remember Robert back in Emerson Lake & Palmer days - fantastic music. RIP RP we miss you!
I have watched a lot of this 1997 concert. Robert does not miss a beat. His timing is impeccable. And he sounds so similar to the in-studio recordings.
Robert felt his music like nobody else, and made us feel it too. he looks gorgeous, sweatin' up his suit and having a great time. oh yeah, I love the guy! 💝
not quite.....tempo was a little fast....then Mr Max settled in nicely......lovin his playing.....the bass player saves the day....beautiful job there ......this performance is fantastic to be sure .....i wished they would have toured this.....nothing these days grooves like this......... :) .......drummers these days remember the big beat and wat that means......Tony Thompson on the record from Chic and ever a personal hero to me..... ;)
Honestly, this concert is just better than the studio versions: it’s raw, everything is bigger and more brassy, Max’s drumming delivers the big kick sound Palmer’s music thrives on. You could be the perfectionist Palmer was, and still never get this band and this performance live during your whole career - and Palmer and Weinstein both know it.
when a band and artist are just in utter understanding as to how brilliant individually they are whihc creates the eventual masterpiece. Utterly sensational . The band is just So.... tight its just not possible to improve. Gen Z's take note this is music and talent .
Robert Palmer was an amazing performer and a personal hero. Max on drums, tight band - totally cool. This video makes me want to grab my goldtop Les Paul and rock on.... rock on
I was 14 y.o when this song was released on the charts & this man’s music made me realize how lucky I was to grow up in the 80s. I was struggling through some depression after my parents separation✌🏼🌈
I was probably around the same age... Fun fact, my buddy told me that the music video for this single was the third one produced for MTV... As teens of the 80's, music videos were brand new to us and made our music that much more influential huh?
Eddie Martinez who played guitar on the studio version is playing lead here. This might be the only live video I have seen where he is playing with Robert live.
The first time i heard this song i was at a Christmas party for my work i wad 19 at the time and the lady that worked the front desk was drunk and drug me out to dance 😂 it was awesome
Dude, it is Robert and the microphone. No bs. What an amazing talent! And for the few who could be unaware, that is Slipknot's drummer's dad playing the drums there!
Well...that's a convoluted and meaningless way to say Max Weinberg...who plays in the E Street Band with Bruce Springsteen and was the band leader and drummer for Conan O'Brien's television show...
Rocking in style. Iconic song, iconic voice and an iconic video. What a shame he is no longer with us. Simply a brilliant artist and another brilliant British artist.
saw his show live that year, simply the best show i've ever seen, the girls from the video performed in the show, this song's video is the greatest of all time. rip robert.
This raunchy, horn-laden cover is the first track on his "Greatest Hits" album... which I was listening to as I was circling-around between the pick-up & drop-off areas at O'Hare [to pick-up my parents] on the day he died. I remember listening to "Johnny's always running-around..." while in the midst of those loops, when I got a strange vibe.... Guess I was feeling his spirit, being a fellow crooner & all! We miss you, Robert... There will never be another like you.
One of the best songs I have ever heard ! I cannot stay still as the beat and sounds travel thorough to my soul ! No one can out dance my moves & most are very shocked at my age !

Brilliant performance, but he looks to me like he is struggling for breath at times, so maybe he was already suffering with his heart when this was recorded
RP was so fucking good. I never think of myself as being talented but my wife, who majored in singing and is a music teacher, says I'm really good at holding a tune....says I slay this type of music.
The James Bond of rock… the special one Robert Palmer, rest in peace Sir, thanks for everything
Couldn't have said it better...RIP
Wish he was still around preforming .
Known as the best dressed man in rock'n'roll !!!!! Great catalogue of work.
I’ve seen a few interviews and he describes himself as an introvert. Live performances would have been a big thing for him, yet he did a great job.
He was my sexy baby for 7 years. We loved each other❤
I dressed him😂
He was so shy
Robert Palmer was to the eighties what Bobby Darin was to the sixties. Well dressed and charisma with a silky voice.

The way Palmer stayed in the pocket was class. It's not very often you see the drummer and lead singer interact to such an extent. Pro.
What a classy, talented sexy man along with an awesome band.
The mighty Max Weinberg is on drums. He is still bringing the power in the E Street Band. RIP Robert, a class act

Palmer was a masterful professional. I love seeing how much Weinberg is enjoying playing with him, straight glee
Max ALWAYS looked bored with the “E” Street Band.
Max Weinberg should get some sort of recognition. He has the best posture of anyone who's ever played rock and roll drums.
