I've made this AMV especially for the "AMV Alliance Contest 30 Seconds to Mars". When I first heard the song "A Beautiful Lie", at once I thought of Lelouch-Zero in Code Geass. The lyrics fit his character so well.
The lead vocals Jared Leto said about this song: "It's about brutal honesty, growth, change. It's an incredibly intimate look into a life that is in the crossroads. A raw emotional journey. A story of life, love, death, pain, joy, and passion. Of what it is to be human."
As a matter of fact this is also the story of Lelouch-Zero in Code Geass.
Lelouch-Zero says: "That was the turning point. Since that day, I've lived a lie: The lie of living. My name, too, was a lie. My personal history, a lie. Nothing but lies. I was sick to death of a world that couldn't be changed. But even in my lies, I refused to give up in despair. But now, this incredible power, it's mine. Well, then..."
He also says "Ever since that day, my heart simply couldn't accept it, this fake life I was never able to fit into. All the time that was lost. These false memories implanted in me, giving me a life as one of the herd. And yet, the truth continues to guide me towards itself. That's right, it wasn't me who was wrong, it was the world! The world has to change. So I will change it."
But as he also declares "The world cannot be changed with pretty words alone."
So at the end of the anime he decides to take the sins of the world on his shoulders. That is... the "Zero Requiem" plan. His biggest and final lie, a beautiful lie. He decides to play the part of a dark villain and cruel tyrant so that to be able to gather all the hate in the world on himself. By doing so, he has to lose his self, his identity, his personal wants, his desires, and his relationships. Indeed, to become the devil himself, he must erase Lelouch Lamperouge, his real self that his sister and friends know and love. This last lie is stained by the sins that Lelouch committed in order to change the world. At first he fought to make that gentle world dreamed of by Nunnaly into a reality only for Nunnaly's sake, but then he started fighting also for all the people in the world. Lelouch is different from Schneizel. Schneizel thinks to achieve peace through fear, threatening every nation that is thinking of starting any war or conflict. He don't trust in a positive human nature. On the other hand, Lelouch believes that a "life without change cannot be called life" and that humanity will go on struggling towards hope and happiness, towards a better future. Lelouch had experienced pain and suffering to achieve happiness. Indeed, as Lelouch declares: "I've seen it, over and over. The people who struggle against sadness. Those who seek the future. How they all carry on wishing for happiness. That's why I have Geass. Why I wear a mask..."
At the end when he is dying, he smiles because he knows that his lie is finally completed in order to open that path for humanity to finally move on towards the future. By destroying all that darkness, the light of the world can finally show its brilliance. Like a transparent glass, the gentle world will show its light.
His last words are: "Yes... I... I... destroy... the world... and create it... anew."
In the AMV so I've also focused on Lelouch-Zero relationship with Nunnally (his younger sister), but also on the relationship between Lelouch-Zero and C.C. / Suzaku Kururugi / Euphemia. (I have already made an AMV on Shirley Fenette, so I decided to leave her a little a side in this AMV).
Lelouch-Zero character was chosen the most popular male character of 2006, 2007 and 2008 at Animage magazine's annual Anime Grand Prix.

Code Geass is, and forever will be, the single greatest anime of all time.
The story of a man, who hated the truth of the world, and decided to change fate, with his own hands, and ACCEPTED the consequences of those actions.
He would ensure world peace, no matter What the cost was....it was all he could do, to repay all of those who died in the pursuit of the same dream.
If the world would not find peace, then he would MAKE peace.

I like the way you connected the song with the anime, and overal the whole amv in fact - the gunshots, dialoges etc. Also you did a great job showing the actual past/present differences by adding the special effects. Scene selection was pretty much perfect and the usage of effects was good enough. Keep goin'.

I have the original DVDs of the series (I really like Code Geass) but to edit my Code Geass amvs I've used the clips from youtube. Perhaps you can still find some episodes in my playlist but the ep are almost at once deleted when uploaded... you have to be patient and wait until someone uploads them again. Look often for them and at last you'll find them (at least I hope so)... I've done in this way and I've been luck ;)
