I think it’s crazy to call the criticism of arteta and the squad reactionary though seeing he has been here nearly 5 seasons now and he’s only won 1 major trophy with Emery’s squad. I don’t want him sacked, if we turn things around I’ll keep quiet and give him his props but too many people defending him atm when he’s never proven he can win a league as a manager

I think it reminds me of 2021 Arsenal. The attack is just barely too slow and predictable to cause many well organized real trouble. What I also think City does so well, is that City manages to play really differently when they are chasing. If they go down early in the game, City will completely change their style of play to chase. Arsenal does not show the same urgency and change of pace once the games turns against us.
I think the drop in form of Martinelli and Trossard together with the sale of Xhaka and the prolonged injury to Partey are the major things that have affected the team.

@@iykeharrison9161 i feel people really underestimated the importance of Xhaka and some even felt free to insult him when he left. But his passing range was what enabled us to release the likes of Martinelli and Trossard earlier and his defensive nous covered for Zinchenko. Even though he is hotheaded, he is still a very clever player (when not hot-headed). I know people are crying why not replace him with a like for like and the truth is i don't think there are many in the world who can replicate his role.
last season we are one of the best at transition, this season is like you said like 2021, too slow, too much meaningless possession, we are not attacking the space fast enough, football is about scoring goals and this "controlled" play is making the opposition ready for us, they just wait until our players misplaced the pass, and hit on the counter
Arsenal fans ready? No, we're not. Our fanbase turns on the team even when we win. The team needs to deliver silverware, but I believe Arteta has earned our trust.

@yeahisaidit4553 we're living off of past glories. We hold onto the invincible season like a fat kid with cake. Yes, I believe it's time for this team to deliver again, but we need to be patient.
One of the reasons Arsenal is struggling is the absence of Thomas Partey in the midfield. He brings calm and guile and he also combines excellently with Odegaard. Also, we miss Granit Xhaka in the Midfield. The partnership between our 3 midfield last season was superb.
If you ask me, last year we came up with something unexpected, the inverted left-back. This gave a a huge advantage in the first half of the season. Now, it's well-known. The opponents double the wingers which mostly don't get the support by an overlapping from teammates. So, all they can do is going for a cross. The middle pack is super jammed and so no goal results. There are two things Arsenal should stress more.
Firstly, the support of the wingers by the roaming 8s which opens more opportunities for these situations, like getting down to the base line for a cross, pushing inside the box for a shot or put down a clever pass to a teammate from short before the box for a long shoot.
Secondly, I think we could raise our overal predictability by not inverting every situation. Leave the full-backs out wide more often to give the required overlapps to the wingers and give the roaming 8s freedom for something creative.
And lastly, I thing Jesus should capture his position more persistently to be an prepetual, latent threat to the opponents as a option on the very top to whom you can play and he eighter turns or drops you the ball.
I totally thing we are good enough and it maybe just requires some tweaks to bring us back to our very best performances.

Arteta is a good manager but riddled with simplistic flaws . A genius that misses the obvious at times.

I think a good solution would be a 3-5-2 to see us into February. If we only have 4 centerbacks, with only one of them really comfortable stepping into CM (White), then it would be a reasonable stopgap, and would still allow us to play with a 3-2-5 in settled offensive possession.
I would look to play:
Havertz - Jesus
Trossard - Smith Rowe - Rice - Ødegaard - Saka
Gabriel - Saliba - White
The caveat being that Tierney would make more sense as a LWB but at least Trossard knows this role from Brighton. And it allows Havertz to play that shadow striker or help form the box in midfield. Also, it still allows for constant rotations as the left and right hand side will have those relationships.
Martinelli can play on the left there too because he’s great at tracking back. Havertz can play the cam position as well (especially if we can get a striker to play in there also), and we can play tomiyasu, timber at any position at the back - and can even tierney at LCB. I totally support this idea
Havertz doesn't do well in that ST position, if we had Toney I'd put him up top with Jesus, but otherwise Martinelli goes up top, replace Trossard in the midfield with Havertz then that's good, if we have toney we could play Jesus behind him

I feel like Cedric gets such a bad wrap from fans. For a free transfer I think he's been a good bit of business, and has certainly provided more in his Arsenal career so far than Kiwior (which I do hope changes in the near future). Basically can we stop making him the butt of all jokes.
Agreed. He's a band-aid that we don't want to use but he doesn't deserve to become a meme. A squad player with a different class of options ahead of him. I'd rather see him in an Arsenal shirt than the likes of Mustafi.
I will be honest, I hope they don't sell, as he's a viable competitpr for both Saka and Martinelli. A midfielder is something I would say we go for, not a striker, because we have someone who offers something different up front in the form of havertz. I would say we get a CDM to allow Declan to take on the Xhaka role because he seemed very solid in that role if you ask me.
Also for Christsake can we sell Jorginho.
We are stale , the attack needs refreshing , ESR needs to come in for martinelli or better yet odegaard for a couple games , maybe try martinelli up top ? We have been playing the same players WAY too much
When talking about the attack, you can clearly see Saka is physically and mentally drained. He needs this break that is coming up, as he has played so many minutes. Quite a few first teamers need a break (Rice, Saliba, Martinelli, White ect). Odegaard doesn't need dropping, as he was the only player really creating anything in our last 2 games when we have been poor. But I do agree ESR should have more game time amongst other players. As like you said, Arteta isn't rotating enough.
Hopefully this break will help the squad reset, along with tactics being tweaked (mainly in attack) and additions to the squad (both returning players like Partey and Timber + new signings).

there is nothing wrong with the tactic. numbers dont lie, the prolem is the pace when the ball is on M11 and J9.
M11: rarely head-up to find teammates, lack of quick pass and the pass accuracy is absolutely terrible.
J9: always drop deep, holds the ball for too long, also the pass is lack of accuracy and speed, in fact, the output of M11 is far from T19.
imo, these 2 brazillian strikers are not suitable for possesion offend, they’re better if we already lead and play counter offend.
also, if we look closer, there might be a question of united amostphere in the dressing room when Garbiel got angry with Rice and M11 snubbed the handshake from ESR.
I personally think Mikel need to start Nelson and ESR more. M11 and J9 need to be on the bench to watch how the team run smooth without them.

Everyone pointing out zinchenko doesn't realise from where arsenal is getting the creativity. Rice passes sideways, Odegaard is dropping deep and Harvertz only makes simple passes. So it's just pass it to saka and hope for the best. Arsenal needed a number 8 and Arteta brought in Havertz. Someone like Gallagher would have been great for Arsenal.

We need Partey's long shots. Rice is incredible but utilizing his offensive prowess means we need Partey. Again last season we were rotating our midfield more. Remember Jorginho, Vierra. Until such a time that Rice and Odergard become more compatible we need to rotate more for unpredictability.

I think Arsenal have some of the players to become the best team in the world… if we play a different formation. I know Saka is amazing at RW, but I think he could become the best LWB ever in the world if we played him there. I would like to bring in Amadou Onana, Morata, a CB and maybe bring Tierney back as cover for Saka on LWB.
It's been very discouraging trying to engage with our fans online. I get we're not seeing the results we want but what would we have them do? The Club has picked a solid manager and backed him financially. He's made it a place where young players want to come and play quality football. We signed skilled/expensive players in the off-season to address our gaps and sure, we've flubbed some games but it's not like there are 30 goal-scorers just sitting around

I think we're playing with "handbrake" on. Scared of being scored against. Scared of making mistakes. This makes the players tense and lack freedom, in my opinion. The fact that some players, like Emile, Elnany, and a few others, are still at the club, they should play more or sold, if possible.
i know it sounds mad but its almost 100 percent mental the players u mentioned plus saka just arent kept fresh enough,its been proven more and more scientifically that the way they have to get up for a game and then the huge adrenaline dump afterwards just cant continue at the rate of 2 or 3 times a week,being fresh mentally gives u that extra 5 percent in quick decision making etc and thats whats wrong with arsenal,they just cant rotate like pep at city to keep players mentally fresh,its so obvious in saka's drop off,just to many games for club and country in the last 3 years,if he was fresh and firing i think the whole arsenal thing would be seen differently,the margins are just so fine

I always think the “Arsenal is too good now for academy players to even play” is a false statement. Other top teams seem no problem giving them minutes.

Think Arteta's approach to defense was the wrong move, think about it. Arteta studied for 3 years under Pep in his positional play system, it's not like he studied under Mourinho who managed to concede 15 goals in a season with Chelsea, he lacks experience with defensive organisation which is evident with the previous seasons and our home clean sheets record. Arteta should just scrap the whole defensive approach, its impossible for a team to concede 0 a season thanks to lucky moments of refereeing decisions, he should be focusing on what brought him close to the title last year, free flowing attacking play.
I have to say that you do make some great points. However, I think you are missing the important fact that last year, we lost out on the title due to goals conceded, not scored. I think defensively Arteta has it right though, but like Alex says, it looks as though our attack is too controlled. He needs to let the attacking players play off instinct more, rather than just constant control. Having said that, I think the return of Partey can have a massive impact on the rest of the season. Partey really helps our transition speed/play with his range of passing, he will also help shore up the midfield a long side Rice. This will free up Odegaard more so he can do what he does best.
Ultimately, I'm hoping this dubai reset will help the players recover physically and mentally to be ready for the second half of the season, with a little bit of luck. I do think the addition of some players is needed, though priorities should be a full back who can play on the left and right and possibly a striker (though if Partey can stay fit, I think Havertz could do a job as a striker for us in some games), but being hampered by FFP restrictions will hinder what we can do.

Those Arsenal fans have watched this unfold in the same fashion numerous times over the last 20 years and are intuitive and forward thinking enough to know when their team are not going to win the title.
It's not even about what the table says right now, if you know anything about this sport you will already know the title race is over for Arsenal.
It's not the fact they've just lost these two games, it's how and why they're losing these games.
It's ok to slip a couple of times when a team have been consistently good, but Arsenal's problems have been manifesting all season and it's finally come to a head. You cannot win a title losing the games they have and the bigger problem is that there doesn't appear to be a solution that is going to fix this quickly.
It's the hope that keeps doing this to the fans, because they do not assess the team objectively before the start of the season.
This squad was never title winning quality, it just took alot of Arsenal fans more time to realise it than others.
@@ObaBaller The season isn't necessarily over, as there's still two other competitions left, but the Premier League title is definitely not going to the Emirates.
Arteta should concentrate on using this month to try to sell the deadwood, raise some funds and get some players in to try to go at the Champions League, as it's a competition that is more accessible to a team like Arsenal. It will need some luck, but it's more doable than the league at this point.

You are the same dude that said Kiwior was world class in hiding or that Martinelli would be unlock this season but the better one, Arteta, the guy that never won anything of noticie, was at the same level as Klopp, the guy that beat Bayern and City to the league and reached four Champions League finals.
The thing is, we’re now too predictable. Only the same people score for us ‘when we actually create chances’. Arteta needs to understand that the other teams will always create chances against us, doesn’t matter how amazing our defense is.
Take a look at Madrid. Their policy is and has always been, you can score against us but we’ll equalize and even score a few more goals just for the fun of it.
We cannot be too predictable when attacking. Being diverse is how you win games that you shouldn’t even be winning.
Plus we have so many players who excel when they’re let loose every now and then and we’ll definitely benefit from a little flair when attacking.
For example, it’s okay to let someone like Saliba drive into the midfield with the ball every now and then.
There are so many ways to improve our gameplay and I’m sure Arteta will figure it out. I don’t exactly think we need a striker however. I think we just need better backups for Saka and Martinelli that Arteta actually trusts enough to play.

I say this, we have unironically the worst fanbase in the premier league. The least realistic, the most all over the place emotionally, the most vitriolic. We got good at making fun of ourselves only for a little bit and it disappeared last year so that small self-awareness we'd grown from the banter days is totally gone.
If you go on and watch any YT football content, which I unfortunately catch a lot of, the absolutely miniscule amount of ball knowledge from the people involved with Arsenal is so apparent. And that's to say nothing of blatant anti-fans like Lee Gunner who get a lot of traffic because we can't help ourselves and engage in as much negativity as we can. It's ridiculous.
After the Fulham game I decided to take a break from football content for three days and reset a bit. To take a deep breath. This manager and this team have earned the right to figure things out. We were so good. We've been so good in games even this year. The Brighton game recently, I thought we were fucking brilliant.
I really do think that we as a fanbase cannot handle pressure at all, and it bleeds into the team and into the manager in big moments. It's something that I think a sports psychologist should look at.

Thing is… I’m a massive Arsenal fan but from the start of the season you could tell it would be the year, been boring to watch and you can call it control but when you excite the fans that pushes you to new heights, i.e last year, or Liverpool. Feel good factor is gone, last season was such a missed chance and Arteta screwed it by playing Holding.

4 minutes in and you explained my problem I have had with this team. I hate how I know and how predictable our team is and it’s even worse because our wingers while good don’t get me wrong don’t have that X factor that players like Leao, Robben, Doku and even to an extent shaktar Mudryk has.
