Really glad you like Prettiest Star. Some people consider it to be a weak song. The lyric “one day, though it might as well be someday” it a bit of a mantra of mine. 😊
Something you might want to consider is listening to Pin Ups by playing the original version of a song, then follow with Bowie’s version…I made a playlist of it and it’s cool to hear his interpretations. Pin Ups was a disappointment when it came out (Bowie was such a great songwriter, why do a collection of covers?) but over time, it’s become an entertaining listen.
Yeah, _Pin_ _Ups_ gets a bad rap just because it consists only of covers. However, it is Bowie showing us his influences, and his interpretations of some of those songs are fascinating. That said, I personally still consider "Spend the Night Together" a weak spot when compared to the others on _Aladdin_ _Sane_
Lee, as a die hard Bowie fan (12 times in concert, and flew to NYC to see him on Broadway in The Elephant Man), it's been absolutely wonderful to relive Bowie's songs through you. Thanks for a priceless ride!
Let’s spend the night together points to the Next Album Pin Ups where he does covers .The Prettiest star is a throwback to earlier Bowie. He was in a state Of change. This album is a grower and in time for me became one of his best
@@L33Reacts The TOTP version is one of the most impressive early Bowie performances, much more interesting than the studio version. If you can use it without it being blocked, it is a bit special.
Mike Garson on Dead Man Walking from the 1997 album Earthling has some of the same vibes as Aladdin Sane. Has to be the album version. The official video are only about half as long as the album version.
Here's another version of The Prettiest Star with Marc Bolan on guitar. Nobody replaces Ronson but this is fun. ua-cam.com/video/iK8-lEgXg1E/v-deo.htmlsi=uvndhX7OmEm32DS3
After this soon, you should check out the 1970 version of "The Prettiest Star" with Marc Bolan on lead guitar, it has an atmospheric organ and acoustic on it as well. The 73 was a little souped up.
I used to have a version of The Prettiest Star taped off the radio long ago, which was mostly stripped back to voice and electric guitar, and was more effective as far as I remember. But I suppose it was probably a live performance, and may be lost to the world by now.
This is the only place where I listen to Bowie. I get my fix here; a little goes a long way. Actually, I got too much Bowie in Art classes in high school and college. But a half hour once or twice a month is all I need.
The doors had a run in with Sullivan for Light my Fire. The line "Girl we couldn't get much Higher" was offensive to CBS. Door just said screw it and did the original line as written. They were told they'd never do the show a gain.
L33… WOW I’m enjoying the Bowie. Please go back to the beginning & do the “Space Oddity” LP. Released 14 November 1969. Sometime considered his 1st “proper” album…an absolute masterpiece from beginning to end. I guess his 1st true album is ultimately entitled “David Bowie”(1967)…although I think he may have been “Davy Jones” for a few of those 1st songs before changing it to “Bowie”. The chronology of those 1st original releases is a bit complex. Add “The Laughing Gnome” single if it’s not on the 1967 release … Bowie did not like it but it is on some other re-releases with other bonus trax. I saw Bowie once finally bro…I was standing front row center in 1990. Bucket List. The lights suddenly went off…a spotlight hit the stage… and somehow he was standing right in front of me. 🤯(Sound &Vision Tour). I’d been listening to him since I discovered “Space Oddity” in 1970. I will never forget it you know ? 🎸✌️
Considering how much you love Garson's playing, you really have to visit the 2000 BBC concert, at some point - especially the "Cracked Actor" and "Wild Is The Wind" tracks - lots of up-front piano in them.
One of the interesting things about Bowie albums (for me, at least), is that the tracks you like most on first hearing often end up taking second place to some of the tracks you didn't take to immediately. Case in point: I loved Prettiest Star when Aladdin Sane was first released, but found Drive-In Saturday insanely jarring. (I remember saying, it sounded like someone was banging a bunch of dustbin lids together!) Over time, I began to think Prettiest Star was fairly bland compared to the rest of the album, while Drive-In Saturday just got more interesting with each passing year. Expect your opinions to change!
Don't ignore the Pin Ups album. Bowie covering all his faves from the 60s.
Let's Spend the Night Together by the World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band. The Rolling Stones!!! Nice cover and nod by Bowie.
One of my favorite Bowie albums. Lady Grinning Soul is a masterpiece
A lad insane does a Stones cover, and it´s just makes sense : )
The final track 'Lady Grinning Soul' is my favourite from this album and one of my favourite all time Bowie songs.
I’ve heard it’s amazing. I can’t wait to hear it next Tuesday night lol

Prettiest Star had a 50’s feel!
Great cover of Let’s Spend the Night Together!
Check David’s , Pin ups album for more 60’s covers!

Need to do the "Diamond Dogs" album also.. so much good stuff, then there's Young Americans.
We will be getting there no doubt! :)
I second this!

I remember when Stones did this song on Ed Sullivan. The network made them change "spend the night together" to "spend some TIME together". Prudes!
David Bowie totally stoked on coke wailing some Rolling Stones at hyperspeed. Can't beat it.
Low from 1977 should be your next deep dive. Masterpiece. Very different
Prettiest Star is on a par with Drive In Saturday on this album for me. Both are less fierce than other tracks, but are poetry to me ❤
"The Prettiest Star" is such a lovely track.
" Lady Grinning Soul" is well worth your attention Lee.
Bowie is always so good ... a unique artist
Let's Spend The Night Together is a speeded up version of a Stones song.
Another pair of classic songs off a classic album.
Great songs from a great album.

Of change. This album is a grower and in time for me became one of his best
Just wait to you hit Lady Grinning Soul!
Next week!! I can’t wait haha
Use the Top of the Pops video for the Jean Genie
I’ll keep that in mind thank you 🙏

Your introspect helps keep me going many days. For that I thank you. You do so much.
I prefer the original version of the prettiest star! More dreamy.

I am speechless that you didn't know !! 🤔🤭🥺🤭

Two bangers.

"Let's Spend The Night Together" sort of hints at what Bowie would do with the "Pin-Up's" album next.
Considering how much you love Garson's playing, you really have to visit the 2000 BBC concert, at some point - especially the "Cracked Actor" and "Wild Is The Wind" tracks - lots of up-front piano in them.
Whe-hew!!
Bowie's cover is better than the Stones original, in my opinion.
I agree.

❤❤❤❤❤❤👽👽👽👽👽👽😂😂😂😂😂😂
Theses were ok, dare I say filler tracks but probably not but that’s my first impression. They were good though. Thanks Lee
"Spend the Night Together" would get my vote for weakest track on the album. Interesting musically, though obviously a filler.
