This year my mother was another victim of COVID so it was the first ceremony without her...It was a sad moment watching all those empty chairs and I guess for a lot of people like me had the same felling.
This was very moving watching live. Something about the way they handled the flag, the salute, the children singing as the flag caught the wind. Very nice moment.

For me I think the best versions are all the ones which were sung in greek. Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and Pyeonchang 2018 (opening). The Olympic Anthem I think it must be always sing in greek to respect the origin of the olympic movement.

In Nagano 1998 was the Olympic Anthem sung in Japanese. Seriously, is it now part of the IOC protocol that the Olympic Anthem can only played in English?
Not exactly, the host country actually can sing the Olympic Hymn in their own language if they choose to, such as in Sochi in 2014, when Anna Netrebko and the Sretensky Choir sang it in Russian at the opening ceremony. It's more that the IOC prefers that the hymn be sung in either English or the original Greek, if not performed instrumentally.

Might be an unpopular option but I don’t like the anthem. Maybe if it was just instrumental it would be fine but half the time when it’s sung in English you need subtitles because it’s so wordy, that they literally are jamming lyrics into every note.

オリンピック賛歌。東京大会は普通の男女高校生の英語バージョンの混声合唱がとても気高く澄み渡り美しかった。ソチは普通の子供達の声が素晴らしかった。平昌は国のエリート教育の中で熾烈な競争に勝ち残った普通ではない特別に作られたかわいげのないこまっちゃくれた少年の独唱の声と姿に失望した。
