The Olympic Anthen must be executed in the native idiom of the host country, or in greek. In Rio they sung in english, what was an absurd as the portuguese is a greek-latin language. I saw the opening ceremony in Tokio in TV and perceived that they sung the anthem in english. Is this correct nowadays?
The IOC's preferred languages for the Olympic Hymn are either Greek, English or French. The native language of the host country is only chosen, apparently, if suitable lyrics can be used. In the Winter Games at Sochi, the anthem was sung in Russian; in the Youth Winter Games, the anthem was sung in Norwegian, using the same lyrics from Lillehammer's Winter Games of 1994. That said, I was supremely disappointed to hear the Olympic Hymn sung in English at Tokyo. But I can see why they did it: to be seen as a symbol of Japan's internationalization, and to help shed the image of the Japanese as being unable to speak English.
@@victorleoncio1079 Paris 2024 they sung the Olympic Anthem in Greek at the Opening Ceremony despite French being one of the IOC's preferred language for the Olympic hymn. I wonder if they will sing it in French at the Closing Ceremony on Sunday.
@@Pikaling3408 Yes, I saw it live, and I'm glad they did it like that. Had shades of that majestic Sydney 2000 orchestral version. I hope they do something similar in the closing ceremony.

IOCは後に、オリンピックのアンセムは英語またはギリシャ語で歌われるべきというルールを作りました。だから、2020年には日本語で演奏されなかったのです。

1988年はカルガリー(カナダ)です。長野はその10年後の1998年。
長野県は合唱が盛んな土地ですからね。
有名なオペラ歌手が高らかに歌うオリンピック賛歌もいいですが、少年少女の合唱の純粋で無垢な歌声のほうが古代ギリシャの神々に捧げる歌のような趣きがあるように思います。
