Funny this pops up in my feed. I just bought that exact spec HP yesterday at Best Buy for $1250 (on sale). I'm a person who prioritizes battery life and still likes ports so with the low price it was an absolute winner.
This was the comparison I was waiting long ago. Thanks! Would be great to test the pen functionality. If I'm right, the xps plus doesn't support and active pen.
One possibly interesting new test category category that I think *a lot* of consumers are interested in: heat & fans during web browsing & office multi-tasking (e.g., Teams / Zoom / Meet call with screen sharing). How hot is it? How loud are the fans running?
i've done some reading on this and found that the more powerful the processor you buy, the louder and hotter it runs. So the XPS with an i5 chip will run significantly cooler than the XPS with the i7. Thus, it's not the laptop brand that makes the difference. When buying a new laptop, you want to match the performance to what you need- don't just buy the fastest CPU with the most cores possible.
I have used the Dell xps 13 plus for about a week now and I would have to say its the best small laptop that I have ever owned. Very easy & comfortable to use and so light & small. For me its almost perfect, I'll give it a 9.9 out of 10 bcuz of the lack of earphone jack.
Features are nice but reliability rules. For many decades, I have always learned more from the repairman than the salesman. Accordingly, it is interesting to note how many HP Spectre X360 that Alex of NorthridgeFix (see YT-channel of same name) has repaired since their lunch in 2015.
honestly not bad. Ever since Apple's M1, it feels vendors now put more thought into fan noise. On the Dell, it's legit far less than I've heard in the past in similar class laptops--and this one is much faster.
Great review. I got the spectre December of 2021 and it has been my daily driver- productivity, hdr content consumption and it has been great. I don't even use iPad pro snymore.
I like the idea of the x360 design, a lot of uses and flexibility are nice in a laptop (or any device really.) However, I bought my parents an Envy a couple of years back, the pen functionality was garbage, useless for drawing and even if it wasn't the screen was waaay too flimsy (in my opinion) to be poking at it with a big plastic stick... Then after a couple of months (with little use) the hinge self destructed, which it turns out is a pretty common fault with those hinges (having a metal hinge screwed to a bit of weak plastic it seems isn't the best idea.) Still nice enough to use as a laptop, if the hinge doesn't go again (at least HP did repair it under warranty) but I wouldn't pay extra for features that just don't work all that well.
all these new laptops without sufficient ports - makes these useless. Carrying around dongles (which often break because of lousy USB standards) is inexcusable. Why is the world going backwards with portable devices? Also, I bought 3 laptops in the last year and ALL 3 developed faults within 2 months (without even being used much). Goes to show how flimsy these devices are. BTW I still have my dell inspiron laptop from 2001 with a geforce 256 and it still works great.
I was a HP laptop user in the past, and now I am a Dell laptop user. The main reason I switched is because of the lack of services HP provides. But, after looking at the Spectre x360 13 at best buy, I wanted to give it a try, and when I compared the Spectre x360 13 to the Dell XPS 13 plus, I liked the Dell more (my personal choice) because I barely us external thumb drives or conventional USB connectors (I store everything in the cloud). When I decided to return the HP Laptop, they charged me 10% (~$125) as a restocking fee, which is not at all fair for such a top brand company, and if I wanted to return a Dell laptop it is hassle free, and their services are top notch, and one example I can say is the shipping time, for HP to ship and deliver it took minimum 5 business days, and dell delivered the laptop the very next day I placed the order, and I had to replace the Dell laptop that I first bought because of the miss alignment of one of the buttons on the keyboard, and the replacement one arrived on the 3rd business day from the day I placed the order. Finally the services between Dell and HP are like Heaven and Hell, and I wouldn't recommend HP over Dell, because their customer service sucked. So, if you don't care about the customer service, and don't mind HP breaking your bank by charging a hefty restocking fee from your wallet, then buy an HP laptop, and if you want top notch services then go for dell.
Had an envy 360 i7, loved it. Dropped and broke it. To replace I went with asus duo, totally does my head in. Not sure whether to go for another envy or go up to the spectre oled 13.5 i7. Any help please
Does the HP Spectre actually come with the docking hub in the box? I purchased one with the exact specs but it did not come with the hub. HP says it does not include the hub in the box it is separate only as a bundle deal.
All vendors can and have had design issues. Period. I don't honestly think the average person who uses these class of laptops needs or is willing to pay the premium for more RAM. Let's be honest: most people don't do squat on a laptop except browse, Office and very light duty content creation. So why make everyone take the extra cost? If you need more perf/RAM/etc. then choose the right tool for the right job.
@Imya Familiya 16GB is still very reasonable especially either an NMVe SSD system and I still can't see forcing all consumers to pay for 32GB of base RAM for that. More RAM costs more money.
I'd love to see what would Gordon say about the EliteBook 845 G9 You can spec it with Ryzen 6000 APUs, it has two USB4 ports with Thunderbolt support and even a USB-A and HDMI ports.
After 6 months of usage, the most disadvantage is the battery running away so fast maybe last for maximum 6hr working from 100% to 20%. I am really very upset.
@@lakshita6748 I have both the HP Spectre x360 from 2020(around 13 inches) and the 2023 (around 16 inches) in front of me and the difference is insane. One of them would be the fan noise. The 2023 is MUCH more quieter than 2020 and 2023 does not sound like a damn helicopter taking off after 30 minutes to 1 hour of UA-cam usage. Of course keep in mind, I have just received this laptop today so there's no extreme downloads of my architecture and live wallpapers- but the difference is "in your face" type of deal.

@@alesterpadua7884 Yeah, that works in theory but ask Ian Cutress about leaving the big power brick behind one day. Either way, it's a bigger and heavier laptop. Did the EXACT same thing 3 days ago. 👍
Google mining your data and it knows more about you than your family😮
How do you like it? I'm considering getting it while it's on sale now too.
@@TheCodeda So far so good. There's a few unnecessary HP bloat apps, which are easily uninstallable. Other than that, it's been a dream to use.
Keep your eyes on open box sales. I bought one open box for $1k flat.
I go with the Spectre because it's cheaper, I like the new aspect ratio, and I like that it has ports.
This was the comparison I was waiting long ago. Thanks! Would be great to test the pen functionality. If I'm right, the xps plus doesn't support and active pen.
Correct, no active pen support.
I wish Gordon would have shown off his drawing skills with that hp pen. I'd like to know how it compares to the surface pen.

Good review. But the words spoken often to not match the slides on the screen. Example: HP screen is spoken to be 3x2 format. But slide says 16 x 10.
I think all laptops should be convertibles! Sometimes a person needs to put them in other positions than just clamshell.

Asus actually made a 16" 2in1 rog laptop if you want all, though it will be expensive and I don't know the compromises

How can this guy say that upgrades are not important?
dell for the win..perfect portable size for me ..regarding the ports, a usb c hub that consist all other essential ports solves the issue..
32 gb should be standard by now.

Hp spectre is the winner. We can't compare 360 2 in 1 spectra with normal 180 laptop. Obviously 2in 1 has to be thicker. Hp spectre is the winner 🏆
