      Thanks for watching All About Boxing ! Yes, it's come in real handy for me. It does, like all planers, create a lot of chips. That's why I made a cyclone dust collector too.

    Thank you for a great video about this Wen planer. I just got mine in yesterday and was going to do the unboxing today. I got the 12 1/2” one instead of the 13”. I have a Wen hand planer and it works in a pinch but it just wasn’t working good enough for what I needed. I use a lot of pallet wood so it was hard to get the boards even. Nothing wrong with the planer itself only that it wasn’t wide enough for what I needed. Great videos overall so thank you for all in info you have given me.

    Jay, thanks for the unboxing video. Was going to ask how it's been treating your since 2017. Any issues? Anything to watch out for? Any snipe issues?

    • @JayVisnansky
      @JayVisnansky  4 роки тому

      It’s been working out fine for me John. No issues at all and once I was able to hook up the vacuum to contain the chips, it’s been great. I think the snip issue is going to happen with any planer but I just try to cut the boards a little longer then what I’ll need and cut the snip off. Thanks for watching John.

      @@JayVisnansky Thanks for the quickly reply, Jay! That's what I've been reading about the snipe. Just cut a little longer than you need and you'll be fine. Keep up with the great videos!

    Jay where did you purchase Home Depot is showing it as not sold in stores or on line anymore and on line its like 350...?

    • @JayVisnansky
      @JayVisnansky  6 років тому

      I bought mine from Home Depot. I ordered it online from their web site and had it delivered to the store. It arrived in a matter of days. I also got that message from time to time for it not being sold anymore. But it seemed to be available during the day for ordering rather then at night for some reason. I'd just keep checking at various times during the week and it will probably show up as available again. Thanks for watching SoggyCashew and good luck.

      August 21 2018,,,, I Have Been in touch with www.wenproducts.com and they are going to have some in stock at the end of this month, i am also waiting. If you go to Home Depot to the WEN 6552 planer page you can put in your email address and get a email sent to you when they come back in stock. The part i am wondering about is the Rollers on the In-feed and Out-feed tables that i see here on this video, i do not see them at either www.wenproducts.com or at Home Depot 's website, they just show black stamped metal tables, i going to call today and find out about this, i like that feature..

    good vid, how is it on snipe if the boards have additional support ?

    • @JayVisnansky
      @JayVisnansky  6 років тому

      if I’m careful, I can minimize the snipe Kerry but it still happens. I then either sand it down or have the piece longer then I need and cut to size after running it thru the planer.
      Thanks for watching.

    Hi Jay - You had answered my Q&A on Home Depot - wanted to thank you for the video link. This is really helpful for my decision. I recently bought a Wen drill press and was really impressed with teh solid quality. I only heard about Wen as a brand in this past year and I really like their offerings. One last question - I know the adage of "More is Always Better", but will teh 3rd blade be a big difference than the 2 blade model? Is there a pro and con to having less blades?

    • @JayVisnansky
      @JayVisnansky  6 років тому

      Thanks for watching Ryan. This is my first planer and so I don't know if there is much of a difference between the 2 blade vs the three blade model. But like you, I didn't know about the Wen brand but this was a good price and I figured I'd go for it. Turns out it has been a good buy. Also, I went with the three blade, 13 inch model as it was only about $12 more then the 12 inch 2 blade mode. Hope this helps Ryan.

    thanks, Jay! i'm eyeing this planer. do you still like it, 4 months on?

    • @JayVisnansky
      @JayVisnansky  7 років тому +1

      I do Dan. Although it's my first planer so I really can't compare it to others, it works fine for me. Especially as I get used to using it. One small detail, as I was planing Ash, I noticed that the dust port got clogged by the long fibers of the wood. No big deal at all and it might have been that I need a more powerful vacuum pulling the dust out. Thanks for watching Dan.

    • @just-dl
      @just-dl 7 років тому

      Thanks for the quick reply! And, also for the shot in dark....it turns out, my absolute favorite (bar none!) wood is....ASH! So, very good information! :-) Thank you! If I can chew up more of your day, did you build an extended outfeed table? I'm planning on having either a table, or freestanding rollers for that purpose, to minimize snipe. Plan B is to run all my lumber an extra X-number of inches long, and chop the snipe (if it's too much to sand out).

    • @JayVisnansky
      @JayVisnansky  7 років тому

      No, I did not build an outfeed table for the planer yet Dan. I built that rolling cart that it sits on in the video a few years ago and found that it works perfect for the planer. And I went with your Plan B; a few extra inches to the stock to account for the snipe. Plus if I give the material a little extra hand support as it leaves the planer, that seems to lessen the snipe too.

    • @just-dl
      @just-dl 7 років тому

      Thanks, Jay. I heard someone else with a different planer say they put a sliver of wood under the very ends of the in-feed/out-feed (like 1/16" or 1/32" - just a shaving) and that extra little lift was kinda like supporting it by hand...it was just enough. I suspect that 10 people could try that, and have 10 different thicknesses of slivers that they find was "it." When I can, I'm planning on doing my planing early in the process, so I may be planing a 10' board, to build a couple of decorative boxes; in that situation, I'd have snipe only on the initial ends...not every side. Thanks for your input! I'm currently "in negotiations" with my wife on the subject! :-) - she's supportive of my silly projects, so I can't complain if I have to wait a little while.... :-)

    • @JayVisnansky
      @JayVisnansky  7 років тому

      It is worth it Jamal but it puts out a lot of shavings and saw dust. So I made a cyclone dust collector for the planer which helps. I've posted the video here so see what you think. Thanks.
