John Moore I’m a head lab technician for a major oil company. We put antioxidants in our gas. Our gas is stabile and won’t break down for at least a year as long as it isn’t exposed to the elements. Like in a sealed can. We test every gasoline final tank for it before it leaves the refinery.
good test.. i have been a amsoil user since 2006. just got done tearing my 6.0L power stroke down as it had blown head gaskets and oil leaks on the rocker covers. i tore the engine completely down and the inside looked like brand new. mind you this is a engine with 254k miles and over 7k hours on it. the cly walls looked great and was able to ball hone the walls and put stock pistons back in it. the rod and main brgs looked like brand new and so did the cam shaft and lifters. the inside looked great i am really impressed after seeing the inside of my engine after this many miles and hours.. i will keep using amosil...
This is the old Amsoil Signature series formulation. Amsoil reformulated the signature series about a year and a half ago. The bottle says 75% more wear protection on the front. The total Base number also was raised to 12.5. Just something to think about. You do amazing videos! Keep it up!
Wow it seems like it was months for your Amsoil test..lol that just shows you that we love your channel, kept up the great work. if it was not for you we would never have a honest test of these oils... GO AMSOIL.. I live in AZ and it gets brutally hot out here so I do run Amsoil XL 0w20 so I feel better in extreme heat..
Here is a great idea for you to try on a lawnmower... Running your simple motor on hydrogen only. As a lawnmower only has one piston, it would take very little gas to fill up the chamber. I’ve wondered for quite a few years how well this would work but I use the old style of turbine blade lawnmower that uses no fuel or electricity so I’m out on this one. I love watching your videos. Very straightforward, to the point and informative. Thank you!
This is getting extremely exciting and I usually hate ads but because Project Farm puts so much work and time into these videos for us, I’m more than happy to watch any ads he puts on. Also because of his integrity and honesty of not being persuaded to favor one brand over another, I fully support ProjectFarm and his channel. Great work 👍🏻
Oil races are exciting and no one does better testing than Project Farm! I am bummed about Redline but very impressed that Penzoil made it this far! Amsoil for the win? Can't wait for the finals! Great job sir!
After my own study of oils i did 2 years ago i chose Amsoil Signature mostly due to the fact its 100% Synthetic with NO Gravel like the Full Synthetic oils on a Molecular scale. I very much enjoy your thorough testing you do and the hard work you put into it. Thank You!
I have done countless oil changes with conventional and synthetic Castrol oil for my cars. I would never thought Pennzoil would be in the final four. I figured Amsoil would be. What ever oil is the winner, will be my oil from now on. I feel you do a great job in testing the oils. Thank you for your time and money to do these test runs.
I forgot to say in my first comment, I’m glad to see that you switched from the Platinum to the Ultra Platinum like I commented in a past video that you replied to. I really like how you listen to us. 👍
Same here. Luckily, the burn off and flow characteristics of the regular Platinum 5W30 most likely still would have let it move to the next round. I will rewatch the other test to confirm.
Paul M according to Pennzoil’s website the Ultra Platinum flashes off at 17C higher than the base Platinum (224C vs 207C.) Other than that the main difference is the amount of detergents. So the Ultra Platinum would’ve just done better than the Platinum in the first round, it would’ve won. It’s really easy to find their data sheets on their website if you’re interested.
@@johnmoore1495 Thank you John! I keep forgetting Flash Point is a standard in SDS sheets and descriptions of any lubricant or solvent! Yes, 224C Ultra vs 207C regular. At least the pour point of -48C is the same, but that is something an additive will not change. It is just an inherent property of the 5W base oil. Thanks again, this was easier tgan rewatching the other video for the scale weights. Mmm. I'm going to watch them again anyway!
Paul M one weird thing about Pennzoil’s lineup is that the Platinum high mileage has a pour point of -51. So I don’t know if it’s a mistake or if they’re actually adding something because otherwise the stats are really similar to the base platinum.
Just so you know , once you put the coffee decanter on the scale if you press the tare button it will read zero . at which point everybody will be able to tell that you've put exactly 200 grams of oil in the decanter . You must remember some people are really bad at simple math . There's no question whether you've added 200 grams if the scale says 200 , not 476.583 . I find your testing methods to be absolutely fantastic , great job as usual .
need to test it against those cheap plastic/wire thingies you stick down the drain. They work pretty well on light clogs. Otherwise just buy a 1/4 by 25' snake that goes on your drill. It will clear more clogs and save you more $$ than fussing with those nasty chemicals.
I am impressed with how far your testing of all things has come since I started watching your channel. It really shows that you have done your homework so much that your wife would probably like to have her husband back!! Joking but thanks for the effort and cost you put into it.
I always love how you test these oils. You are very transparent about your methods, show no bias, and admit that your testing isn’t quite perfect. However I do feel that your testing does show how well oils perform during extremes.
I feel like the lubricity test is most important overall.. You can always add oil for evaporative loss, and cold flow only affects extremely cold regions.
I sort of agree with you... I am looking for lubricity... But I also live far north, and I need to see that oil flowing at cold temperatures.... If I lived in Florida, I guess I could ignore those -40 flow tests.... If the oil is not flowing, it cannot provide lubricity....
I have a 2014 Toyota Camry se sport with 270k miles. I bought it brand new. I've only used kendall 5w20 full synthetic oil in the winter and kendall 5w30 full synthetic oil in the summer only. No leaks, no burning oil and still runs good! (I've been the only one that changed the the oil myself) kendall has been good to my car.
Todd, thanks to your testing, I went to Walmart yesterday and bought two oil changes worth of Pennzoil Platinum to put in both my 19 Chevy 2500 and my 08 Toyota Sienna. I had been a Mobil 1 man before. It was even cheaper at $22/gallon compared to $26/gallon for Mobil 1 Thanks again for all you do.
Another great video. My daughter came in after the introduction and after you had them on the hot plate, she was at a loss for why I was watching coffee cooking on a hot plate:) ☮🙃
My engine thanks you for taking the time to perform these tests and share them with us. It is hard to trust what the manufacturers say these days and this shows true unbiased real world tests.
The machine/engine shop I work at has been a Schaeffer dealer for a couple decades and we actually went down to their HQ a couple years ago. We use it EXCLUSIVELY in every new engine build that comes out of the building. We build mostly high HP vintage muscle car, strip and track engines. Never had an issue or complaint as far as I know and have a lot of return business from those who are converts from the big names. Their "Nutra" fuel additive is what I use in lieu of Sta Bil...and does a great job. Their gear lubes are also very good! We have a lot of Harley owners use our stuff as well!
I have used both Pennzoil Ultra platinum and Kendal gt1 max liquid Titanium. Both are high quality and in the real world, you won't notice a difference. I am happy you did these test and I have purchase Amsoil Signature series to try after all these years.
How about you take the #16 finisher and use different oil additives to see how it compares to the overall winner... Could cheap oil plus an additive be cheaper and better overall than the expensive winner?
@Richard Skipper it's not that expensive. I use it in my truck and it still cost me less than what a shop would charge and I am running the best oil I can get.
@Richard Skipper honestly if you thrash on your cars then l don't think it matters. I mean you probably change the oil so often in race cars anyways that it wouldn't make a difference what you run since it wouldn't have much time to break down.
I love the instant replay. I haven't seen 1 oil in your contest that I would not use. Synthetic oils are so much better than normal oils and once you understand the lifespan you will see they save you money.
Yeah. I could see Amsoil costing so much IF it wins as #1, but if winner #2 is half the price, then that will be my most preferred oil to go to. I never believed in the Mobil 1 hype... Always so thin, watered down, and always had to add more to all our vehicles at work.
I am too, particularly the ones Opti-Lube offer. They have XPD which is an all-around additive but isn't the best for increasing the Cetane number, nor is it the best for Lubricity. I, instead, use their Cetane Boost and XL (Extreme Lubricity) additives.
There are other comparison videos out there, but yours are by FAR my favorite! Thank you for taking the time to put these videos out, I’ve learned a lot about different products from watching your videos!
Wow thanks for adding the cooked oil into the race. It’s good to see that cooking it does not slow its flow rate in all categories so far. I was thinking that cooking out some of the oil may make it slower but I guess not. Thanks
Schaeffer's all the way! and yes, I really do believe these are some very well thought out tests that come close to what the oils do inside the engine! As a mechanical/robotics engineer I approve of these test methods. If the oil you waste money on didn't make the finals maybe you should look into changing for a better performance product.
Richard Skipper I can buy a gallon of Schaeffer's for $21 from my local representative. that's $5.25/ quart for a full synthetic motor oil with a very good reputation. Mobil 1 is a good oil don't get me wrong but if you have been around and have not been doing your homework (research and development), then you're going to get passed by better products in competition to be number one. Mobil 1 has definitely come up in the years as far as staying competitive. however, I am afraid this is due to the ingredients (detergents, base chems, and other additives) being of better quality. The tests he does here in this video really do show a good idea of how these oils work. the concept of the tests here are on a more generalized generic scale but he is not a scientist and thus doesn't have the fancy equipment. Although entertaining as it may be, the general take away of the performance in his tests is pretty clear. That under not only under environmental circumstances, but general operating circumstance that the performance of the oil will show up when put through generalized tests. It is good research and fantastically executed!
Just bought the wife a new car and when asked what motor oil I would use I told the salesman I’d have to check lab results, he said what lab Black stone I said no no a much more advanced lab Project Farm and he replied yeah that guy does great videos and I replayed the best thanks Brother👍
ive been buying penzoil since i bought my truck a few years back. its comforting to know ive chosen right especially given the cold flow test considering the winters i get here in wisconsin
I would be curious to see how these oils do when different additives such as Marvel Mystery Oil and Lucas Oil Stabilizer and such are added to them. It would be interesting to see what if any benefits they have.
I do enjoy trying to see if Drake will do anything funny at the Toronto arena during those "other" playoffs. Cameras too far away. However, by and far I give these oil playoffs every second of my attention
Best video yet! You must have your own show with a cable budget for testing everything!! My wife hates most of what I yt but gets mad if I watch 1 of your videos without her. Best part was calling the oils like a dog race. Epic stuff never stop! I'd love to see you testing gun oils and everyday house and kitchen cleaners. Did you know Listerine used to be used as a kitchen floor cleaner?
@@ProjectFarm Don't waste your time! There is no need to add ANYTHING to your motor oil or gasoline! Use Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra Platinum Motor Oil and Shell Gasoline and that's it!
Thankyou for the unbiased testing! These oils need to be exposed that aren’t what you pay for! If I’m gonna pay 13+ for a couple quarts of oil, I want proven best!
Great video. I “invested” in Amsoil Signature 5w-20 for my new RAM1500 hoping to avoid the “5.7 hemi tick” I was wondering if I had been ripped off because the Amsoil was 4x the cost of normal oil But now I can see from your tests that I Have paid for and received the best available, which at least, makes the higher price justifiable.
Eduardo Barba It seems Shaeffer’s would win the cold flow test, Amsoil would win the evaporative test, Wear test looks to be even between the two maybe he can run the wear test double the time to get a winner.
@@matt7sixty Its amazing to see Schaeffer oil at 6$ a quart run with the big amsoil 9-14$ a quart 👍 I am loyal to my Schaeffer even if it falls short. Redline disappointed me really.. I thought it would have done much better especially in the cold flow test being a Group 5 ester.
Charles Peterson II A lot of guys are saying that even still running Royal Purple/M1 ect.. Because they are loyal or “it’s always worked for me”. What’s the point of these test then you know.. Shaeffer’s seems to be just as good as Amsoil aside from the Evaporation test but it cold flows better than Amsoil, I personally live in Southern California in my area it doesn’t get very cold.
As soon as I saw the Kendall GT-1 MAX Liquid Titanium Full Syn I hit the thumbnail to check out the video in RECORD TIME!!!.. lol. These lil "VS" race contest videos are fun bro keep it up! :)
Amsoil EaO vs. Fram Ultra Synthetic. Strangely, Fram might beat Amsoil but it'll be super close if I'm not missing anything (going by the specs of what they filter out.) Never heard of MicroGreen, I'm interested.
I think the wear protection dominance of redline should have been weighted higher. My engine never gets to 350 or -40 degrees but it does have moving parts.
quick question, how do you determine how high to fill the cups on the lubricity test? that could (potentially) affect the outcome of the test. Hey, that's a video idea!
From what I observed, he doesn't necessarily determine the oil level. I assume he now has an exact measurement. That measurement 'I assume' is based on the right amount that it takes to keep it well lubricated. As well as when the lubricity tester is running it doesn't spit too much oil out when it's in motion.
Another awesome video! Redline for southern vehicles, Amsoil for both north and south, and Pennzoil Ultra for northern vehicles. Though Pennzoil is inexpensive, and excellent available at Wally World (for 26 dollars for 5 Quarts), for all applications. The most cost effective oil insurance is Pennzoil Ultra in my opinion.
You just can't beat the Penzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30 for $24.99 5 quart jug. You can also save money at Walmart buy buying in bulk . $71.38 for a 3 pack .
You said it! It is one of the best off the shelf, mid priced oils out there! I use it along with QS full synthetic and Fuchs GT-1 Pro Flex 5W-30. Unfortunately, it will be beaten by Penrite, Schaefers, or Amsoil! Their base oil, additives, and cost make them superior. However, I will always recommend everyone to get Pennzoil Ultra Platinum at every chance. Especially since it is available from WM at discount. I am still making an Excel sheet with data, facts, and notes from every oil test. It's a lot of data! Burn off weight and percentage. Bearing test loss and percentage. Bearing scar dimensions and area, plus appearance comment. Cold flow will be harder to put in a sheet. I got lazy.
I love watching your content and i am an amsoil dealer so i use your content as ads and it brings you traffic! i would like to see a showdown between Amsoil sig series and Amsoil Zrod high zinc formula for classic cars! Also i think it would be interesting to see results with the bearing test using the burnt oil and the cold oil in 2 separate tests. I think it would be great to see what oils are best at protecting the bearing at sub zero temps as that is when most engine wear occurs. I would be interested to see the difference in the additive package for these as well. Thank you so much for your very thorough content!
You sure do your homework on the oil specifications. Engine oil is far more complex than most people realize. You make the oil races so real I find myself on the edge of the seat. Great job!
Amsoil is like the best engine oil out there. My brother uses a full synthetic amsoil in his chevy derimax. Me and my dad use a full sythectic 2 stroke amsoil in almost all of our 2 stroke engines. Amsoil is very expensive but I think it is worth the money.
@@charlespetersonii6989 ah hahaha didn't even read 2 stroke. But yes it is great oil, I havent found anything that mixes more easily and burns more clean. good test.. i have been a amsoil user since 2006. just got done tearing my 6.0L power stroke down as it had blown head gaskets and oil leaks on the rocker covers. i tore the engine completely down and the inside looked like brand new. mind you this is a engine with 254k miles and over 7k hours on it. the cly walls looked great and was able to ball hone the walls and put stock pistons back in it. the rod and main brgs looked like brand new and so did the cam shaft and lifters. the inside looked great i am really impressed after seeing the inside of my engine after this many miles and hours.. i will keep using amosil...
Thank you. Impressive results on the powerstroke!
i agree while i was tear this engine down i seen no wear really surprised me.
This is the old Amsoil Signature series formulation. Amsoil reformulated the signature series about a year and a half ago. The bottle says 75% more wear protection on the front. The total Base number also was raised to 12.5. Just something to think about. You do amazing videos! Keep it up!
Great information! Thank you
Wow it seems like it was months for your Amsoil test..lol
that just shows you that we love your channel, kept up the great work. if it was not for you we would never have a honest test of these oils... GO AMSOIL.. I live in AZ and it gets brutally hot out here so I do run Amsoil XL 0w20 so I feel better in extreme heat..
Thank you!
7:54 did you say Amazon instead of Amsoil lol , it's amazing how you can keep up with all the names with barely any hiccups. Good work
lol. Sorry about that!
Thank you!
Thank you for the video idea!
Great work 👍🏻
Thank you very much for supporting the channel! It helps!
Oil races are exciting and no one does better testing than Project Farm! I am bummed about Redline but very impressed that Penzoil made it this far! Amsoil for the win? Can't wait for the finals! Great job sir!
Thank you!
After my own study of oils i did 2 years ago i chose Amsoil Signature mostly due to the fact its 100% Synthetic with NO Gravel like the Full Synthetic oils on a Molecular scale. I very much enjoy your thorough testing you do and the hard work you put into it. Thank You!
Thank you!
1:20 I love how you can see the plate flexing up and down from the heat, something you'd never know of without the time lapse!
Thank you!
Highlight of my day are these oil videos
I have done countless oil changes with conventional and synthetic Castrol oil for my cars. I would never thought Pennzoil would be in the final four. I figured Amsoil would be. What ever oil is the winner, will be my oil from now on. I feel you do a great job in testing the oils. Thank you for your time and money to do these test runs.
Thanks for watching!
I see you used the Ultra Platinum this time, thank you for the great series of videos.
Thank you!
I mentioned the same thing back when he first started this series, they are almost identical oils, just more addictive package with Ultra Platinum.
@@johnmoore1495 1.22grams for Pennzoil Platinum using the previous shorter burn off test. Has me curious.
Thank you for the constructive feedback.
I've been waiting for this Amsoil video!! Thank you!!!
It's a great oil!
@@ProjectFarm I've been selling Amsoil for a couple years now, nice to see your tests.
Amsoil rocks!
Test liquid plumbing clog removers?
Great recommendation!
None of these should ever be used.
That was my idea lol you got that from my comments 😂😂😂😂
Please don’t! These things are terrible for your plumbing. The best clog remover would still be a bad thing to use.
need to test it against those cheap plastic/wire thingies you stick down the drain.
Thank you very much for the positive comment!!
Love your videos, you do such a great job. And -40°f/°C is a pretty common temp here in Canada a few months of the year.
Thank you!
What oil do you typically use during those cold times up there neighbor?
You just had to go and remind me, after it’s finally warmed up! 😜
I use the Pennzoil here in Alberta. Instant oil pressure... or close to it, and I NEVER use a block heater.
I am really enjoying this series. Thank you. 🙂👍🏻

my old mans not a UA-camr but I let him watch your video for first time and he really enjoyed it.love watching your videos.
Thank you very much for the positive comments! Please tell you dad I said hello!
You always do a fantastic job with the tests. Looking forward knowing which oil to get.
I always love how you test these oils. You are very transparent about your methods, show no bias, and admit that your testing isn’t quite perfect. However I do feel that your testing does show how well oils perform during extremes.
Thank you!
Your channel is amazing. Watching you continuously improve your scientific rigor and methods has been a treat.
Thank you!
Well, evaporative loss will correlate to intake value deposits in modern direct-injection engines, so I think that one is fairly important for some.
All great points. Low evaporation for GDI for sure to avoid those intake valve deposits.
@@catsspat Well, that's why I'm not a fan of direct injection engines unless they have dual fuel injectors. Just another engineering con

It was even cheaper at $22/gallon compared to $26/gallon for Mobil 1

It would be really interesting to see a lubricity test for both cooked and uncooked oil.

Been using AMsoil for 15 years in all my cars. Nothing compares.
4 times less engine wear with Amsoil vs competitors.

My engine thanks you for taking the time to perform these tests and share them with us. It is hard to trust what the manufacturers say these days and this shows true unbiased real world tests.
Thanks for watching.
Screw the NBA playoffs, this is far more interesting!
Thank you!
Agreed!! Who wants to watch "Woke Sports" anyway!!
Are you using the "cooked" oils on the lubricity test?
Yes, thank you
The machine/engine shop I work at has been a Schaeffer dealer for a couple decades and we actually went down to their HQ a couple years ago.
It's a great oil! Thank you
Amsoils super consistent flow when new and cooked was impressive!!
Great point! Very impressive oil.
Got here before the notification popped up. This channel is why I love Mondays.
Thank you very much! Glad to be a part of making Mondays better! Hope you have a great week.
I have used both Pennzoil Ultra platinum and Kendal gt1 max liquid Titanium. Both are high quality and in the real world, you won't notice a difference. I am happy you did these test and I have purchase Amsoil Signature series to try after all these years.
Thank you very much! I'm impressed with all the brands in the Elite 8 and especially the final 4.
How about you take the #16 finisher and use different oil additives to see how it compares to the overall winner...
Could cheap oil plus an additive be cheaper and better overall than the expensive winner?
Thank you for the video idea!
Doubtful, since neither you, nor the additive company made the cheap oil to know what the additive package is in the cheap oil.
We’re all expecting 2x uploads a week now! Great stuff as always!
lol. I wish I could consistently make 2 per week. Thank you!
Great test! Some ideas for more tests...door locks, hinges, walkie talkies, patio umbrellas, life vests, hydraulic jacks, workbend vices, socket sets, windshield washer fluid (winter rated), wiper blades, machine oils, tire pressure gauges.
Thank you for the video idea!
Amsoil seems to be living up to the hype.
I was skeptical about Amsoil, now after watching various yt videos I'm a believer
I agree. Never used it in my vehicles before but I see why it's got a great reputation.
We used it in our race cars, THE BEST WE EVER USED BAR NONE.
You've gotten so good at making these videos. Im glad your channel is growing so big, you'll hit 1 million in no time. You deserve it.
Thank you!
Best commentary of an oil race I've ever heard!

How’s the Amsoil been working out for you
I love the instant replay. I haven't seen 1 oil in your contest that I would not use. Synthetic oils are so much better than normal oils and once you understand the lifespan you will see they save you money.

OMG if Amsoil wins the whole thing, the dealers will be crowing about it for years.
I know I will be
Thanks for watching the video
I dont know if I was the first or not but I am quite happy I suggested amsoil v. Royal purple
YES AMSOIL WILL THEN GO UP IN PRICE, LOL.
Yeah. I could see Amsoil costing so much IF it wins as #1, but if winner #2 is half the price, then that will be my most preferred oil to go to. I never believed in the Mobil 1 hype... Always so thin, watered down, and always had to add more to all our vehicles at work.
I’m super curious which diesel fuel/ oil additives are best!!
Thank you for the video idea!
I am too, particularly the ones Opti-Lube offer. They have XPD which is an all-around additive but isn't the best for increasing the Cetane number, nor is it the best for Lubricity. I, instead, use their Cetane Boost and XL (Extreme Lubricity) additives.
Look into Schaeffers fuel additives. They are some of the best you can buy period 👍🤘👌🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁

Amsoil dominating.. These are crazy good matchups!
Thank you!
You're doing a service for humanity! Amsoil vs Schaffer's , I can't wait!!!!
Thank you!
I am a Schaeffer guy and amsoil may win but for 6$ a quart I'll stick with my Schaeffer 👍
You nailed it, it will be Amsoil vs Scheaffers
Just bought the wife a new car and when asked what motor oil I would use I told the salesman I’d have to check lab results, he said what lab Black stone I said no no a much more advanced lab Project Farm and he replied yeah that guy does great videos and I replayed the best thanks Brother👍

I would be curious to see how these oils do when different additives such as Marvel Mystery Oil and Lucas Oil Stabilizer and such are added to them. It would be interesting to see what if any benefits they have.
Maybe take the one beaten first by the winner and add the additives to it. Then see which additive, if any, will allow it to beat out the victor.

Thank you!
amsoil for the win.

PS I am a sad little Redline Fanboy.
Great recommendation! Red Line is a GREAT oil. I'll rank all of them at the end of the showdown.
In previous tests he used a graduated cylinder to measure exactly 40 millilitres
@@obsoleteoptics thanks for the clarification
Another awesome video! Redline for southern vehicles, Amsoil for both north and south, and Pennzoil Ultra for northern vehicles. Though Pennzoil is inexpensive, and excellent available at Wally World (for 26 dollars for 5 Quarts), for all applications. The most cost effective oil insurance is Pennzoil Ultra in my opinion.

It's a great product! It's going to be very difficult to beat!
I got lazy.
Oh, and that is 5 quarts not just a gallon!
Yup for that price point nothing may beat it unless you go pay more like amsoil possibly.
Unfortunate for Red Line. The film strength test is probably the most important overall. Still a great oil choice.
