My Leatherman Garage #5 is the best multitool ever cause it’s sitting in a box unused.

I really enjoy having the outside accessible tools on the Arc, and the large scissors. I do really miss the ruler from my Charge+ TTi. I got a Nextool key shaped cord cutter thing as a stand in for missing the Charge's hook.
No multitool is perfect for everyone. And that's ok. The more options out there, the better.

The Arc is the best ....only in 'Marketing'.
It still needs a ruler, the eagle claw can opener, more Ergonomic Handles, maybe remove the hole in the file. Buy a Wave/charge/Surge and buy a Knipex 5 inch with the money left over 😅

The Leatherman Arc is the first tool where all the bits and blades are available from the outside. The Arc is also made in the USA rather than China so there is a premium to be paid for that. So do American jobs matter to you or is price your only concern? Is the Leatherman Arc the best multi tool? Possibly in terms of the blade steel and ease of access to the tools. For sheer comfort in use in the hand and overall capability the Victorinox Spirit series of tools are better and cheaper.

With a diamond file that cant sharpen the blade, with faulty cutters and no t-shank its quite bad.
For that price i would buy (and i did) a Surge, a Knipex CoboltS and a Knipex Cobra150.
Edit: its a very good looking tool, some people might buy it for this.

Replace file and saw with a T attachment and a hooked serrated magnablade blade and add some ruler marks, and it becomes the closest to perfection for me... And I agree the blade is a little short

You prefer a liner lock over free tech, you prefer a slightly longer s30v blade over Magnacut… talk about unpopular opinion.

I believe it would be wiser for them to make a version without straight blade, maybe serrated one. Most people they gravitate with magnacut are people who already have magnacut knife. Having good pairing tool to knife might be a good option. I am also a Charge person more (no interest in arc) but if I fancy carrying my bm bugout, I would pair it with vic spirit xc without straight blade. Good thinking on the topic sir.

I really like the Arc for everyday carry. Toolset is close to perfect, but same can say both of the Charge and Surge too. I wish that Arc would have same kniveblade profile than Charge. I mostly use that blade to puncture and then slice to open packages and stuff and that Arc blade isnt very good to puncture because of its profile. Wire stripper is also a joke for me who has used to use those wave family V-strippers. I was also littlebit of unaware, how that thinner bitdriver would work and last for stess. No worries! 25year varranty will protect and I just changed my dirtbike broken rearbrake pedal with my Arc and ratchetdriver + bitkit..Need to twist hell out of that thing (forgotted took real wrenches to the track). Actually that flexier body saved the Arc I think. Really like your LM comparison videos! Sorry my bad english and hello from Finland😊

Same here. I carry the ARC everyday at work and use it a ton. I loved how it had the tool set closest to what I wanted/needed compared to other tools. And it has saved me so many trips back to the shop to grab another tool. I am working on finding different tools to change my ARC around to remove the useless (to me) tools for something I will actually use. For my needs this is the perfect tool (minus a couple points)!

It’s one of the best medium duty ones. Nobody NEEDS Magnacut unless you’re working in the ocean or a salt plant and a given toolset is never going to be perfect for everyone. I carried the charge tti for 8 years or so and will still sometimes. I don’t feel at a disadvantage not having the charge on me. How often is a ruler needed? Have one engraved or measure it yourself and scribe lines on every 1/4 or 1/8 inch. And they’re loose on purpose but they aren’t supposed to be more than juuuuust able to fall open a little if you hold one handle and the plier head and let the other handle dangle and wiggle it back and forth. The tension will likely need to be adjusted every so often. It’s perfect for me as my charge is I suppose. I’m all about solutions instead of barriers/excuses. That’s how fellas like me with a tiny ween are able to ever snag a wife lol! The Magnacut actually has almost 10% less edge retention than our s30v too. It’s just the best all around stainless. Many other high carbon steels blow it out of the water. Honestly I’d rather have a high carbon steel for the better performance and I enjoy doing forced patinas. Opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one and more of em stink from further off than don’t.

@@appleztooranges I think some folks got their new shiny toy and realized it’s just a boring medium duty normal multitool and developed some buyers remorse. Others go the opposite way and talk it up too far because they spent so much and try to justify it by saying it’s the bestest ever. Me and you are about on the same page with it. I’m satisfied with my purchase and even enjoy the appearance of it. Here shortly I’m going to zinc and copper or brass coat the handles. Then a tiny rub of polish will give it a nice golden shiny look. I’m hoping the black parts on the handles won’t let any acetate stick to it.

If you want it for heavy work, buy a Surge, Super Tool, or full size Swisstool
If you want a balanced all around multitool, buy a Wave/Charge, Rebar, or Swisstool Spirit.
If you value fidgeting with your EDC gear more than its raw practicality, the Free series was made for you.
The ARC's niche is basically being a premium Free.
People that say the ARC is the "best ever" are telling you more about themselves than the tool.

I would like to have an Arc, but to spend all this money for a tool... Too expensive to use hard! I have LM charge tti, received as a birthday gift and I use it softly to avoid damages. The only tools that I use hard are: a wingman and a Crunch! For sure the charge is my multitool for the ratchet and bit set usage. But for the hard works I think that I will take a surge in the future.

It is great that we live in a time where there are so many options. Best is very much in the eyes of the user. For instance, I really need the gut hook and the ruler to measure said guts.

  • @IamACanadian47
    @IamACanadian47 6 місяців тому +2

Agreed 👏. This is the very first time I haven’t had an interest in a brand new multitool.
I knew I would really miss the serated blade (on my wave plus model) and the ability to use and abuse the tool without worrying about the replacement cost (I keep hearing people saying the swisstool spirit are too pretty so they don’t get used and abused daily).
Unless you work wearing gloves permanently I don’t see the point of the arc outside of it being a multitool that Chinese companies can’t make decent knock-offs from.
P.S. Over time when you’ve used the diamond file enough to ruin its coating you can replace the tool without a lot of thought (ie. the wave model) whereas with the arc I would be hesitant to use the diamond file as it would have a limited number of uses before having to replace the entire tool as I’m pretty positive that wouldn’t be a warranty claim.

This is what leatherman says . Files are covered under the warranty, but if one uses the Sentimental clause they also have to stipulate what that want repaired and/or replaced.

Yes, I agree with you 100 percent! My go to, tool is my modified G10 Charge Plus! My second choice is the Surge.
I believe Leatherman could have done a much better job on the design of the Arc…. Also, it’s very difficult to justify the cost of the Arc. Especially, when comparing the ARC to the Wave plus or to the Wave plus clones. The margins on the Arc for Leatherman must be insane.

Most Magnacut blades are $150 plus right now. Now we the public don’t know what they’re paying Crucible for it, but they know what the public is paying. So we are getting a bit of that latest Magnacut mark up and the rest a decent too at the inflated price. Because people are paying it. Myself- I’m happy with the price. It’s fair to low current market value. They could’ve sold just as many for $300 easy and just said piss on the customers because a lot more people would’ve boohooed about the price.

Although its not the "best" I think its close to perfect for edc. Yes theres things id change like add eagle claw can opener "best in my opinion" beacuse im maby the only guy who will eat a can of tuna at work like a savage. And I think it would have been nice to have tweezers built into it. But Id buy it again for the absurd price. And im happy. Take it with a grain of salt but its comming from a guy whos favorite leatherman is the mut. They all have their place

If you need a dedicated bottle opener in a multitool, you dont need a multitool, you dont deserve a multitool. (cork screws are a different conversation) if you can not get a bottle opened with a stick, corner of a table, lighter, ANYTHING. What are you going to do with a multitool. The name explains itself, multi tasking tool. It has many tools, but all of them are worse than dedicated tools for one job only. Which means you need to have an ability to improvise, adapt, adjust, rethink, to get the best out of the tools you have at hand at the exact moment. If your skill and knowledge are at a level that you need a bottle opener to open a bottle, buy a 0,50c bottle opener and spend the remaining 300€/£/$ connecting with your mother and maybe understand why daddy was not there to teach you the basics. And i have to add, the can opener, wtf? nearly all is ringpull nowdays. If you pack up for a long trip take a folding can opener if the cans need it. if it is a life and death situation, any semi sturdy blade opens a can of beans every day for weeks. So why the fuck are these in most of the multitools taking a spot that could hold an actually usefull tool? That question was serious, why have tools that no one needs in most of multitools. nuclearfalloutprepperfantasy or what
