Helllloooo everyone! This video is all about the little things about camp that you may not find in FAQ's that I would've found super helpful before I went to camp.
I also explain my travels after camp with photos and videos w/ my MUST SEE places in the USA.
Check out my other Summer Camp video:

I'd like to suggest that you look into summer camps in Canada so you can experience the beauty of that country and visit Hawaii (back in the U.S.) before you go home.
oh man Canada looks absolutely beautiful and I'd looove to see those lakes and camps in the summertime. Also Hawaii is a DREAM
I love being at Wah-Nee last year I am was there and it was the best. I am defiantly going back
yay I'm so glad you loved it!!
I am so camp sick I miss camp
you and me both sister
Emily Pamio it a small camp in south east Texas called camp lantern creek
Did you travel for the full four weeks after camp and was it expensive? also where was your camp based? loved the video! :-)
Yeah I did, highly recommend, you’ll meet people and learn about new places to travel to while at camp. I was based in Connecticut 🤍 good luck!!
Such an awesome video! You did a super good job with it! I make camp videos too so love hearing other peoples thoughts and opinions about all things camp!
thanks so much!!
the intro is my life
u r my life
Hi! This is first video of yours I'm watching and I'm sorry to bother you if you have already answered some of these questions on your other videos, because I have a lot of questions haha. On all the summer camp related videos I've seen there has only been camp counselors from the US, Australia, NZ or UK. Has there been non-native English speakers as camp counselors at your camps, do you feel like they fit in as well as the others? How much free time did you have at the camp? Did you have only one activity you "hosted" the whole time, or did you have different duties? How much experience of that activity you had before hand? And after your first camp, did you ever feel unsafe travelling in the States alone as a young female? Was it your first time traveling around the US, or had you done it before with your family?
Yeah for sure! The camp that hires you will fit you well so you'll have people who speak english and those speaking other languages, its really cool! All camps are different but you'll usually get 1 period off per day and then nights off + 1 full day a week off camp. I feel safe in the US, just research the areas you're visiting, stay in safe areas and keep your street smarts, just like travelling to any country.
I worked as gymnastics staff but I also do heaps of other jobs bc we live with the campers too :) hope this helps
tips on embassy interview questions pls that is the one thing I am the most nervous about 😭
don't stress over the embassy interview, its super easy and chill, even tho I do stress myself just bc I am so excited to have my visa granted haha. They ask you questions like "why are you going to the USA?" "how long are you staying?" "which state will you be working in?" "how did you find this job?" "what's your workplace called?" "what will you be doing at camp?" (you would say you're job title e.g. working as a swim instructor, soccer coach etc) make sure you have all your documents with you as well incase they ask to see something - your agency should have a paper that tells you which documents to take with you. Hope this helps
I’m scared that people at my camp won’t like meee😣
be yourself and give 100% into camp and you will receive 100% out. everyone is in the same boat, no-one knows each other and everyone is looking to make friends, and it happens sooo quickly, its really amazing! I feel like everyone is worried about that but there is no reason to be, everyone is so so so lovely and kind and fun at camp and its the most inclusive environment ever!
Emily Pamio omg thank you sooo much!!♥️♥️
I am really interested in doing something like this, how old were you when you did your first summer camp?
Bridget Kerrison I was 19 my first summer, but counselors range between 18-27 although at camp age doesn’t matter, everyone is great friends 🥰
@@emilypamio8148 This is so true! One of my favorite things about camp is that your "every day labels" do not matter at camp. Your age or what you do for fun doesn't matter, we are all friends :))
@@haleypurifoy precisely, camp is the most inclusive place on earth!
Did u travel with the guys that u meet there and was that spontaneous or planed
Gina Hörmedinger my first year I travelled mostly solo, all spontaneous. For the past 2 years I have made friends at camp and we decided to travel together and booked our trip while at camp ☺️
How long did your traveling last after camp? How long do you think you should put aside for after camp travel and how much money should you put aside?
i always take the full 30 days they allow on your visa bc i love seeing as much of the country as possible! Thats up to you bc staying in hotels vs a road trip and also the locations you travel too will vary the cost. :)
So do you need experience to apply as a summer camp counselor? And later on after I got the experience would I be to apply to a job as counselor or no ik it sounds stupid but I’m not going to college and I’m running out of options for jobs to look for since I can’t work with money it makes me nervous so it difficult looking for a job that doesn’t involve money handling
you don't need any specific experience but make sure thats its a job that you're interested in and you enjoy working with kids. It's a very full on, high energy job but suppper fun
Would camps still hire you if you can’t do the full 8 weeks? Maybe like 6 weeks or something?
There are definetely camps that run for shorter time periods why would still be interested in hiring you
is it possible to go without an agency?
You'll need an agency to sponsor your visa unless you have a US passport
Hey!! I’m going back to camp for my second year and your after camp trip sounds incredible and exactly what I want to do!! What rv/car did you hire/what company?🤩
hey girl! yay, camp is just around the corner eee! Which camp do you go to? We hired our RV through Cruise America, just be sure to book early, bc the Burning Man festival in Nevada means that CA sells out suuuuper fast! :)
Emily Pamio I go to URJ Crane Lake Camp in Massachusetts!! Ahhh thank you so much for the advice!!
just it a major website stalk holy moly URJ looks incredible!!@@mollyisobel1027
did u spend to much money in your after camp trip?
we did because my friends and I spend the following month after camp travelling in NYC and on a road trip. It's easy to spend alot while travelling but also so many ways to save along the way
Emily Pamio Thanks for the answer ! One last think do u really think ccusa is the best option? I was thinking about going with camp leaders
@@annabarbara3195 I have only been through CCUSA and I really like them, but it's up to you, best to have a look at the websites :)
Emily Pamio yeah ure rightt thanks for the help
how long after your application is processed do you hear from a camp? do all your fees need to be paid first!
JESSIE LEE you could hear from a camp the day after or 5 months later, it really just depends and varies with every applicant. In most agencies, not all of your fees need to be paid, but the majority do when you’re accepted into the program. Camps will reach out most likely over email to set up an interview ☺️ let me know when you’re placed so we can e-celebrate
Is it like a job interview if you fail you don’t get to go?
not at all, if you have an interview for a camp but don't get hired by them you'll go back into the pool and another camp will email you for an interview :)
I’m actually looking into applying at this camp cause I live in Connecticut and a lot of people told me to try and apply to become a counselor and I was just wondering were there counselors that worked there that weren’t international?
Christina Klepacki hey lovely, what’s your Instagram? I’ll send you a message there and we can chat ☺️
@@emilypamio8148 Hey thanks for replying and it's Christina_klepacki
i sent you a message, it may be in your message requests :)@@christinak8479
how do u plan the after camp trip? did u only buy your plane ticket like one way first?
buying a one way can often bc just as expensive as a round trip (from australia) so I usually buy a round trip. If you're from the UK, getting a one way is clever bc its cheaper. I always take the full 30 days after camp to travel and chances are people from your camp will do that too. Post camp plans are very briefly organised at camp very last minute, which is half the fun hahah :)
can you live off being a camp counselor or is it more just a summer job for a bit of extra cash?
summer camps only go for 2-3 months so I wouldn't say that you can live off it for the other 10 months of the year. the money you make at camp is just a bonus for the incredible experience you have, its so much more than a summer job! :) does that answer your question?
are you going next year
I sure am heheee
@@emilypamio8148 It would be so good to get same camp as you! need someone to travel with after .
JESSIE LEE agencies do a great job at placing you at a camp that is perfect for you, there are over 1000 camps in the US, it’s amazing ☺️ you will 100% find people to travel with at your camp
Hello, I have just had an email through from camp Wah-Nee for an interview! Would you have any advice? x
Hey! Yay this is exciting! Be yourself and really sell yourself in the interview, they'll probably ask you about the skill they want to hire you for so talk about any teaching exp and qual's you have. Make sure you research camp heaps and have questions ready to ask that show that you're willing and excited for camp for the right reasons :) :) Let me know how it goes!
I'm in!! Thank you for your help! :)
yay congrats!! have you been added to the staff fb page?@@legostarwarsrc
Also are the cabins gender separated or unisex?
the cabins are separated by gender and at my camp boys and girls campus' are on either end of the hill. I don't know of any camps that have unisex bunks
How long did you spend travelling after camp finished?
you have 30 days after your J1 visa ends to travel within the US, I always take the full 30 days and fly home the day before my VISA ends. But you could also get a B1/B2 and head up to Canada and back into the US if you wish, or head to Europe, the possibilities are endless and exciting!
How am I just seeing this
Sorch
Hi
Hey Cecile
hey i was interested in going to wah-nee and was wondering if you have to be placed there by luck or if you can specifically apply there? also, can you go when you’re 16/17? thanks :)
Tv show Trivia! Hey lovely, you won’t be able to apply directly to a camp, there are over 1000 camps in the USA that are equally as incredible and agencies such as CCUSA do an amazing job at matching your skills and personality to a camp that will be so perfect for you to thrive in 💛 Unfortunately no, you’ll have to wait til your 18 and have finished high school to apply to an agency for camp, all the best ☺️
love this! Which camp are you going to this year??
thanks gorgeous, I'm returning to the same camp this year
What kind of go pro did you get? I’m thinking about getting on for camp
A Sens I bought a hero5 which was the latest one at the same, I recommend the hero 7 now :)
Love this!!!
MADI!! can't wait for our annual NYC catch up THIS YEAR
