@@PixelPeepers Sony's camera software chooses not to overelly expose and highlight as much as iPhone, in this respect it kind of forces it's user's to use Manuel mode for pictures and cinima pro app for videos, I admit it's automatic mode isn't amazing but put in the hand of a creator it definitely delivers more then other smart phones.
By the way I just took my kids to a park and made videos on my XZ3 and I just noticed that xz3 seems to give more priority to the foreground subject, as a result the foreground subject in backlit situation doesn't get under exposed. I wonder if it's different with Xperia 1 considering what we saw in the video here where the building is very badly under exposed. Which brings me to the point as to whether or not we can expect a comparison between XZ3 and the Xperia 1. Though we know for sure that in low light there'd be no match. Also I was wondering if the result would change in videos with HDR turned on in Xperia 1. Though I know that iPhone would still have comfortably an upper hand. @@PixelPeepers nah,the only in my family not in need of glasses lol. Is kinda like Bokeh I actually prefer what the Sony does. Yes, Sony do not cut out the object like the others does. But for me Sony is the only manufacturer that makes the Bokeh look real, like it's just 1 photo taken. You can on an iPhone see that one picture is taken off the background and then the object is pasted into the background. It looks like a cut and paste-job. Maybe that's the thing with bokeh, but I think that looks horrible.
Jerry Berglund keep in mind that the sony used the telephoto, this is why blur looks more natural. Iphone 11 does not have telephoto, so it took the portrait with the wide camera. Iphone 11 pro has the 3rd lens and can shoot portraits with either the wide or the telephoto
Like seriously, do Sony fanboys watch the same videos that other users do? Every time a Sony phone loses a comparison, they'll always be twisting the results and telling us that the Sony actually was better, or that the reviewer didn't know how to use it, or that he should use RAW instead of Jpeg, and the list of excuses go on and on. I've been using android phones for 10 years now, and I have no problem with admitting that the iPhone has the best camera on the market. Just quit deflecting and admit that Sony has lost it when it comes to smartphones, and I wish that wasn't the case, because at one point, they used to make the best smartphones out there.
@@PixelPeepers these are gigantic corporations that doesn't even know we exist, I don't get why some of us find the need to blindly defend them. I never pledge my allegiance to any of them, I pay my hard earned money on the best device that suits my needs.
@@maher.k22 I think it's because most people feel the need to justify their expensive purchase and get upset when you say their device isn't the greatest. For me my S9 is a great smartphone, so I don't mind when people crap on it. People crap on anything, even if there was a smartphone out there that's covered in gold and spat out pizza for $399.
@@NGameReviews the thing with Sony fanboys in particular, is that they blindly defend Sony. Like the phone wouldn't be released yet and only a handful of reviewers have it, yet they swear that the Sony is doing better when the results show the opposite. Check Sony's videos on this channel, and you'll be surprised by how delusional their fan base is. I have a Note 10, and yes I am enjoying it, but I definitely can tell you that the cameras on it are way inconsistent, same goes to battery life. Like I don't get why people consume so much energy on hating a specific product or defend another.
@@maher.k22 Well it also helps if you really enjoy the product you use. I can see why some people get very defensive about their devices. I actually didn't like the Xperia Z, the original one. I had an iPhone 5 at the time as well and used both. And while I give credit to Sony for making me love the android OS, it was also a frustrating experience. The camera was straight up dogshit. Blurry shots, constantly noisy photos. The phone itself was slow. The waterproof flaps wouldn't stay in place, and it felt cheap. The iPhone 5 felt a lot more premium, the OS was smooth (for awhile till it slowed down) and the camera module was amazing for the time. Most phones nowadays are close in build, performance and cameras that there's no real point in being a fanboy/fangirl anymore. And a lot of the issues I had with the OG Xperia just don't exist anymore. We live in a great time.
Iphone looks ugly, sorry. The Xperia1 is my personal favorit. 4k 6,51" nice to handle with one hand. Cinema wide is great and personal. Natural colors, good looking photos are just enough, to be in love with this nice Sony device 😍👍
@ Stefan Duellmann man you can hate apple or iphone but please don't let it blind you. loot at the review, the iphone clearly has better dynamic range and more details. sony is not too far behind in the photo comparison but just look at that 4k video comparison, the iphone completely obliterated xperia

@@PixelPeepers I see. But If you were to choose who has the better cameras in specs and practice (supposedly) who would you choose between the Pixel 3a XL or the Xperia 5?
*_Okay! I watched the video all the way through and could see that the Xperia-1 has a good Auto Mode and wins up to many iPhone 11s with large scales but is still a little weak compared to Smartphones "Auto Modes": Pixel and Huawei! One Plus, Samsung, Xiaomi and Apple are also very good in this regard!_* *_Now I will be very honest, the color tones, blacks, brightness, contrast are very good but always need an adjustment in the color tones and brightness to brighten the images!_* *_Other detail that was not put here is that no Xperia has HDR in Auto Modes! That is, if you want to use HDR on, you need to turn on Manual Modes or Wide Cinema Pro. And even in the Auto Adjustments of those Modes, the sharp images are often better._*
I consider the iphone to be much superior to the sony in auto mode, and nothing can change my opinion, as my conclusion is taken from many hours of testing the devices. Manual modes and cinema pro app not included here
@@PixelPeepers For me and in my opinion I find the pictures taken in auto mode to be horrible and even on iPhones that barely have these features, I've always tried to use manual adjustments! In Auto Modes it is an undeniable fact that iPhones are much better but if we work using Ultra Wide Cinema Pro and Manual Mode Modes, iPhone none can get close in any quality matter! Still repeating, Huawei and Pixel are Light Years ahead of any company in Auto Mode!
Modes are not Apples to Apples! Sony is aiming for a purest approach like their Alphas (not one shot does it all, actually needs ur creative input and be less lazy) while Apple is making things all the same (flatter images and less story telling imo). Artistic vs. Automatic.
pauL3gend same story over and over again. Sony fans claiming sony phones should be used in manual to “unleash full artistic potential”. That’s BS. In my opinion sony phones have underrated cameras, i understand their philosophy which is totally opposite to let’s say a huawei. Sony likes to be more natural, I understand and i like that. BUT, still, sony phones have their limits when it comes to cameras, and some of them are frustrating. And these shortcomings are more obvious when you compare them with better shooters like the iphone 11 pro
I really love the iPhone 11 but why does the 11 have a part of the surface raised even though they don't have the ultra wide camera ? It really feels disappointing
To keep the design language the same. So people know you bought the new 11, but you didn’t have the money to get the pro. Apple is all about marketing manipulation. They want people to feel good that they upgraded to the 2019 model, but feel even better if you upgraded to the pro levels
Now this year Sony Xperia Pro is a different level! Pro doesn't stand for a just fancy name like other brands, but Pro is more for journalist n etc Go Sony!
Also HDR is considered to make the imagery more "Flat" due to loss of Contrast. So just because its On in Auto on the Sony it, doesn't mean its on the same level as Apples as they choose to go more extreme. End result make u think that it looks better, but this is a conscious choice of each company on aggressiveness. I prefer Artistic and less flat.

@@PixelPeepers I do agree to that. Although I do agree that they have refreshed their Xperia lineup very quickly and corrected most of its hardware flaws since the last generations
When panning main camera at 4K Sony retains details while iPhone smudges them as the motion goes on. Also Xperia 1 nails it on the bell tower when it comes to luminosity dynamics while iPhone obviously uses some HDR stacking processing and kills the contrast completely cause it thinks highlights are overexposed. iPhone has better close up details while Xperia 1 retains details in the background, best example is yellow timber clad/fundermax front of the building next to bell tower. You can see panel gaps on Xperia 1 while iPhone smudges them. Xperia 1 is absolutely terrible at 4K stabilization. They just can't get OIS and EIS to play along together, XZ2/XZ3 do not have these kind of issues. My suggestion is to always turn off stabilization on Sony phones when shooting 4K to improve image quality. iPhone takes the cake easy when it comes to stabilizing the image. But the reason for detail smudging could be aggressive stabilization or just lower bitrate, I'm not sure. Xperia 1 struggles with exposure consistency and underexposes the whole view, iPhone does a lot better job maintaining that even exposure thanks to HDR stacking and tone mapping. Xperia 1 can record HLG HDR which makes the biggest difference in mobile phone video when viewed on HLG enabled TV but in your case since you filmed in overcast afternoon conditions enabling HLG HDR could have easily turned the whole scene into orange magenta cast fest which would be a mess. HLG HDR is at it's best at bright sunny mid-day. I wish you did some tripod static shots for us to see the amount of detail when camera is not moving but static is rarely point of any video camera unless you are shooting a feature film :) Great job!
Actually, iphone has much higher bitrate than sony in 4k, if we are comparing h.265 codecs. The loss of details in heavy motion like panning i think is there because the heavy electronic stabilization algorithms, while sony is just sharper for the lack of stabilization. I will make a video comparison with the sony cinema pro app full manual on a dji osmo mobile 2 VS the iPhone with filmic pro app, in full manual, on the same gimbal
I do not believe the review. My xperia1 has never shot in such creamy shades and with such poor sharpness. The quality of the photo is always at its best both night and day. And here on the video are some strange colors. I do not believe.

Very well said. I think Sony's software is the one to be blamed because if you use the manual set up. You can truly unleash it's full potential and captures great pictures. I really think Sony should do it's homework and fix the Superior Auto Software. Sony's Superior Auto can't focus on the hair strand.
iphone is much better .....since iphone 2 8g.......until now it's unbeatable by performance & camera + visual . The best phone that humanity ever create
Against any other Android phones, I'll always say the Xperia 1 has a more natural shot and fine details. Against the iPhone though, it finally meets a fellow 'naturalist' while being scrutinized for detail. Apple knocked it off the park and for once I can say the iPhones have a caught up to nearly all Android flagships' camera outputs. I wouldn't feel too bad for Sony honestly. This is their first rendition of their new smartphone direction. It is very competent (see the details on FFC 1080p and look at those details!) that needs tweaking on its post-processing. Also they might want to throw a Night mode as well in order to satisfy the market. Other than that, they are stepping in the right direction. I for one can't wait for what they'll do with their Xperia 1 Mk. 2 (or whatever it is they'll call it). Great review! I hope you can review the Xperia 5, Pixel Peepers!
Xperia has a sensor for white balance and still gets red hues in daylight and yellow hues at night they should really fix this and add the monochrome camera from the xz2 premium to improve the dynamic range
And my Xperia 1 not get red are really great white and need to learn that manually if only change to HDR On get auto with HDR alway s so get Chose if like or not like auto with HDR so Learn to use Mobile before test .
As always a great Video keep it exactly like this And now my question could you just perform a very short Pixelpeeper video about how a RAW Image maybe could improve the details in the image against the iPhone 11 (because maybe it is just a compression Problem from every Androidphone)

I just bought an iPhone 11 after having the Xperia 1 for 7 months. The camera was awful on Sony. Phone would overheat within 5 minutes and crash. Video always stuttered. I sent it to Sony and they said there was nothing wrong with it... a flagship that can’t record 40k30 smoothly when cheaper phones can do 4k60 with 0 stuttering.
Unfair comparison as iPhone has the auto HDR always analyzing where as the Sony has the purest approach. U need to turn the HDR video button ON the Sony. U never even do this on ur reviews claiming others dont have it. Well, modes are not always apples to apples. Please show the world Sony's true abilities, even it require ubto do more work like DSLRs!
If i could just clarify this for all people to see, i’ve said it a million times, and I’ll say it again. 1. Sony’s HDR requires an HDR10 screen for video playback to see its benefits. There is no possible way to combine HDR codec and SDR codec in one video and post it on youtube. Physically it isn’t possible. Apple does it best, taking the hdr advantages and delivering it to sdr video. If i would make a hdr video with sony, it would be stand alone as I can’t compare it side by side with any other video footage from any other phone. This is why hdr videos from Sony can’t be compared sode by side. 2. You speak of fair comparison but you are suggesting i would shoot auto with iphone and manual with sony “to unleash its true potential” THIS IS NOT FAIR! When comparing 2 phones, both should be on auto to better analyze hardware AND software processing, how the phones handle exposure and details with software. And user error is not possible this way. Shooting manual is not an objective comparison.

Undoubtedly the iPhone has a great system. I'd agree with you on the remark it is the best on the market but in 2 areas I like the XPERIA: colours and portrait mode. Just as you said, it has a good balance between saturation and keeping natural. Personally that's quite a big thing for me. On my second point, the background blur looks more pleasing to me on the XPERIA. It has a nice roll off effect that's quite natural and isn't too blaring. The iPhone's is just too pronounced and doesn't have the gradual background blur that is present on the XPERIA. Details are much better on the iPhone but if it's to the point the blur is too strong and artificial, the details aren't much use as I wouldn't end up using it
Keep in mind that i used iphone 11 for this comparison, not the pro. And the 11 can only shoot portrait with the wide angle lens, as it doesn’t have the 2x lens. The pro would have made a much better job
Sony really need to bring down the contrast to increase dynamic range. The sky shot is just bad, the stabilization is not good. I appreciate their move towards more natural shots, but this year apple did the same. Bringing down the saturation and contrast. Alongside the badass dynamic range it has. The sky man, is kept in check.. amazing
I want to see a review, wherein CinemaPro is used in Xperia compared to other phones Remember that what separates Xperia from the rest, is the CinemaPro. But in all reviews it’s always like this, they used auto and then they conclude Iphone or any other phone is better.
I can’t shoot a manual video with sony in cinema pro and compare it to all auto mode video in iphone. It wouldn’t be fair. A fair comparison is maybe a cinema pro video vs a filmic pro shot video on an iphone, in full manual settings. And i have a feeling iphone would still be better

iPhone 11 killed Xperia 1. Flawless victory. Period. I believe that iPhone Xs did not fall far behind. Generally it delivers the same quality photos as iPhone 11. U forgot to say that iPhone looses all his highlight and the Sony keeps it. U might have to be a little more intelligent to make a good picture with the Sony but it's definitely more detailed! You should try it again
Absolutely. Apple has a very good track record with camera updates. And don’t forget, deep fusion is coming to ios 13.2 for the iphone 11 and 11 pro, taking the camera to whole new hights
just as i said before the iphone way more mature for this year camera phone technology , they take all of available advantages especially optimizing most recent hardware with great software. That's the advantage to launch the product near the year end, it makes your product become the best of the year because you've learned other product weakness for almost whole year and correct them.
I have to agree that in front camera test, iphone is much better..but in the main camera test,i think SONY has best details, more natural colour and true to life....sorry to say it..i am not a SONY fan though...
Well, I understand that the iPhone gives more details but, the colors are too yellow. I understand that the details are very important, but if the price of this remnant is a yellow tint, is it worth it? Although Sonya, as I understand it, has the disease of making photos too dark. I understand that the king of details is an iPhone, but why all these details when the white balance is not correct? Just judging that the details are important, then the Lenovo Z6pro is no worse than an iPhone, because its algorithm is the same or very similar! www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=4&idPhone1=9671&idPhone2=9319&idPhone3=9846

I am so glad to see these types of commentaries from people that are not blinded by fanboy-ish feelings
@@PixelPeepers these are gigantic corporations that doesn't even know we exist, I don't get why some of us find the need to blindly defend them.

*_Now I will be very honest, the color tones, blacks, brightness, contrast are very good but always need an adjustment in the color tones and brightness to brighten the images!_*
*_Other detail that was not put here is that no Xperia has HDR in Auto Modes!
Still repeating, Huawei and Pixel are Light Years ahead of any company in Auto Mode!

why you don't use the max power of Xperia 1? iPhone has auto hdr and you don't use that in Xperia???!!! why???
M Fara both phones shot photos on auto. Iphone has auto hdr, sony has superior auto, hdr is on manual

DeltaX yup, they are geniuses like that. And it works
Is the Sony 5 111 got better cameras
I wish you did some tripod static shots for us to see the amount of detail when camera is not moving but static is rarely point of any video camera unless you are shooting a feature film :)
Great job!

I do agree with this suggestion actually... Hdr on with hdr on comparison although Iphone in auto mode and Sony in manual mode...
Sony is not so bad, comparing daylight photos. And Sony photos sharp enough without oversharping. Anyway you made a great comparison! Thank you.

Best details on sony? Nah

All shots were made in superior auto, unless stated otherwise (like when i shoot manual with hdr on)
@@PixelPeepers Also HDR is considered to make the imagery more "Flat" due to loss of Contrast. So just because its On in Auto on the Sony it, doesn't mean its on the same level as Apples as they choose to go more extreme. End result make u think that it looks better, but this is a conscious choice of each company on aggressiveness. I prefer Artistic and less flat.
WOW 👑 SONY GOD FOREVER#1 ✌️ 👑
👌👌
The iPhone is better though in daylight and nightime photography. But yeah, the Sony has takes better ultra wide pictures
noka5730 exactly
Sony love
👍👍
Really hats off to Apple this time, but it's the pricing which they'll never change.
Well, they made a small step into the right direction. Iphone 11 models are 50 dollars cheaper than the xs models when they were released
Use manual mode 😂😂. It will be better than iPhone
Depends on the scenario
@@PixelPeepers obviously but Sony is definitely not as bad as people portray it. Even dxo marks are partial
Both of your camera are the same a lot of noise and not so clear....
You really think they are the same? Can’t you see any differences between them?
@@PixelPeepers it has no difference because of the output of video are the same it's to blurred..
@@simplylokal2957wow.. you haven't see sony is underexposed ? and sony's overexposed hightlights? 😂
iPhone wins but Sony is close to the winner. Still my choice is Sony. Has better design!... and I prefer the CineAlta cinema pro... CineAlta professional cameras are used exclusively and widely from Hollywood studios!
It’s a bit too big for me
Sony is the leader in sensors .But when it comes to mobile camera they are ages behind apple and Samsung. Even iPhone 8 takes better pictures and videos than Xperia 1.
Videos, yes, photos, not really
Check your facts nex time, year old LG v40 have 4K HDR video in 60fps.No one, no one can match Lg in audio and video capabilities. Can your iphone be network streamer like LG.
You’re hilarious... i was talking about 4k 60 fps with all cameras. ALL CAMERAS. I know my facts. And also, yes, iphone is better in video quality in auto mode, and if you want to talk manual mode videos, you’re right, lg is by far the best, until you get filmic pro app on the iphone
@@PixelPeepers No you didn't, but it doesn't matter, yo thought for real that iphone is the only one.
