- Tackling the game "Operation" with the da Vinci Surgical System (by Intuitive Surgical Inc.).
Students at the Johns Hopkins University Laboratory for Computational Sensing and Robotics (LCSR) unwind after a long day of research. Our research da Vinci robot enables precision control and unmatched dexterity for even the most critical tasks.
Featuring PhD students:

Honestly that's probably not bad practice. I would think this could make a good first test during initial training in using this robotic system.
This robot is definitely being used in the best way it could be.
That's why working at institutes and unis can be so fun sometimes - you can just take a bilion dollar worth of equipment and fool around with it :D
Lol
NOTE:
The video demonstrates the remarkable level of precision and accuracy that the robot has, being able to render playing the game Operation relatively trivial.
Then again, due to the robot not being grounded, a circuit would not be completed (of which lights up the nose) if the user made an error.
That 6 year old begging his mom to buy the da Vinci robot to play games with it
@sirbruce1970 Good eye, the arm wasn't grounded. We just wanted to show the dexterity of the tools. We could have grounded the tool, but because this is a 2 million dollar research device, we decided not to. :D Cheers, Graduate Students at Johns Hopkins Engineering
Nicely done. Lovely music, too.
I had one of these things digging around in my brain a year ago, somehow though this is more impressive.
Thank you! I knew someone had to have made this video. Well done!
how unprofessionally awesome XD
that smile at the end though :D

Awesome technology .
I just had thoracic surgery done with this robot. pretty amazing stuff. Way better than having my ribs spread.... ;)
The fact that there are people saying that money was wasted doing this are just..... Hopeless? This was a pretty cool training piece and showed the precision the robot has. Seems like a good video to me!
@sirbruce1970 Cpt. Obvious brings us all to our senses. Good job.
of course it's not going to go off if you if you don't use the clip >:(
I'm in love.
Fabuloso !!!! :D
Did anyone notice the Xbox 360 Kinect in the upper right hand corner at 1:25? Wonder what they are using that for......
HEY! Isnt this tune from Always Sunny In Philly!?
The surgeon is adorable.
Use it to draw a circle with an etch a sketch and I'll be impressed.
did you hook up the electrodes?
what is this music
"Fired, so fired, so incredibly fired."
@hmhackmaster
You mean left. Spent ages looking for it ^^
how sweet!! ^___^
what is this for a nice elevator music?
please help me
music credit? uber famous...
So is its programming considered “da Vinci Code?” 😁

Intuitive Surgical, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aperture Science.
excuse me, but, let's be honest here, alright?
this was a triumph. I'm making a note here. Huge Success! It's hard to overstate my satisfaction!
Would it have even buzzed if the side was touched? I think you need to do it again with the wire attached, which will of course void the warranty on your robot.
This is hilarious !!
But... the robot isn't using the attached probe... so it won't complete the circuit... so even if it touches the sides it won't set off the buzzer...
jaja awesome jaja yo tambien me enamore de la doctora xD
"hey, why don't do that!??"
that's exactly what i was thinking...
Kinect at 1:53. Now Doctors can telekinetically operate!
You can obviously see she hit the sides multiple times before she grab the thing.
:S

All it takes is metal which they are using
This looks like a fairly legitimate way to use some multi-million dollar equipment.
@jbdranger Dude, these are the same types of people who are gonna be saving your friggin lives. And that robot isn't operating on someone 24/7.
@sirbruce1970 But it didn't.
I love the 1950's music to along with the idea of using robots for everything. Also who knew there were such cute girls in robotics?
@jarthos123 you are correct, people should train on real patients
Faut bien rentabiliser la machine à 10 millions
@AkimboJoe You haven't worked in robotics if you are making that statement =)
Ahhh using super advanced and expensive technology for a board game..... Welcome to America...
Chick is cute!
Not cheating...
@jbdranger Oh you wanna know what the military and police do with bomb disposal robots? Race them, and even make pancakes with them.

Those things cost $225, 000.
And doing stuff like that trains the technicians and demonstrates their versatility.
@zaphoid33 Thank you for understanding my position. I mean really, why not simply train on homeless people?
shhhh......
@GcNexus11 So people are not allowed time to relax where you live? That sucks for you guys.
Overkill? No such thing.
cute

I'm an inspector for the company that does the quality inspection for the Da Vinci, and their newest robot, so I won't say anything to jeopardize my job,
David Von Raesfeld then why didnt you just shut the fuck up originally and not post this stupid, pointless, probably false comment? Textbook douchebag.
Michael Sheridan Why would it matter to you what I said? Why would you wait 3 months to cry about what someone else said, on a video made 4 years ago? Sounds like someone is mad they can't get a job? Textbook loser, whose going to end up homeless or sponging off his parent for the rest of their pathetic life.
By the way, your "dojo master" videos and everything else on your page, actually make me think you'll turn out to be a fine human, and a great contributor to society.
Rekt
+David Von Raesfeld He may have been overzealous in saying what he did.. but the core of what he said is correct... Why say anything in the first place if you're "not going to say anything"?
That's like being at a wedding, and when it is said, " Speak now, or forever hold your peace." You stand up, announce "I'm her ex boyfriend...but.... I won't say anything, because I could cause trouble."
Why say something, if you aren't going to say something? I believe that is what the profane gentleman was trying to get across...albeit, in a meaner and less effective manner.
Never send a robot to do a human's job....
That's cheating!
I hated this game. Always made me pee a little when the buzzer went off...
She's battaz
What's wrong with you people? She's chinese
The fact that there are people saying that money was wasted doing this are just..... Hopeless? This was a pretty cool training piece and showed the precision the robat has. Seems like a good video to me!
