Im lucky enough to have lived in the uk and seen time team from the start. I emigrated to Spain in 2010 and discovered the programmes I had missed on You Tube during covid. I have also discovered a whole new type of archaeology in my new country. Thrilled with the patreon funded new digs.

I can’t even remember the first time I saw Time Team, but it was donkey’s years ago. I have many of the few Time Team DVDs produced, and now re-watch all the Time Team on UA-cam. I have aged along with my friends on Time Team and have laughed along with them at all the in jokes…such a good time! I’ve worked on both archaeological and paleontological digs and have a real fellow feeling with the Team. At 77, with mobility issues now, I really appreciate being able to join these digs, even if it’s only virtually these days! Thanks to Mick, Tony, Phil, Helen, Stewart, John, et al for sharing these programs with me.

Mick’s chief skill for me in Time Team was his ability to prioritise the work. He had the ability to say yes and no and could be swayed by a valid argument. But do it in a such way where he got buy-in from all. That is the skill of a true leader.

Still, my bookshelves groan under 50+ years of readings from all over the world on this dark art. Now in retirement, I”m looking for ways to learn hands-on and contribute. I binged on Time Team from beginning to end, even after Mick departed; and there were too many favorite moments, especially the Roman tessellated floors, but my favorite was the one where at some castle somewhere, in a ditch was a golden Henry V coin that hadn't seen the light of day for 600 years or so and the man who found it was literally shaking with delight.

Mick Aston did a lot for youngsters interested in history archaeology, the YAC Young Archaeologists Club.
Time team will continue to be watched , just like I watched Mortimer Wheeler ( pre ww2) talking about excavating verulamium, or other sites , its interesting to see the differences from pre war to today
Archaeology has changed quite a lot in the 30 years since I graduated & have been excavating .
Pick n shovel, as Phil says that won't change,
But majority of digs in my area now are *rescue digs , frustrating because we have to stick to the footprint & depths of the proposed new building.
My first 20 years most digs were in the field, digging to answer questions, where an assumed few weeks to excavate a cremation burial ends up taking years bc another burial with grave goods ,& a villa we didn't know about & a bathhouse/ sauna, & a very well built Roman road lead to the farm estate.
    Plus ditches , middens etc.

It warms the heart to see the Time Teamers all together again, even if to pay last respects for a fallen member. Everyone will one day become a part of the archeological record, to once more give excitement to a future digger. It bothers me that academic archaeologists rip on it; I've got multiple degrees in the physical sciences, and physicists and astronomers did the same thing to Carl Sagan. It was short on basics and too much about speed and flash.

What an astonishing line-up of talent were assembled for Time Team, and there are others who are not at this terrific presentation (perhaps they are in the audience). Britain's future is assured when it's past is in such capable hands.

My Silvaculture prof in college taught us basic landscape archaeology. We had to learn how to suggest a plan for harvesting and planting trees. Thus professor was big at first at judging into an area and gauging what could be done there for maximum results. He was against cookie cutter approaches and walk the area to see if it was previous used for other activities. We would find milk cans and learned that beech trees are in a circular arrangement as they develop as root suckers from a mother tree in the center.

Yes, Time Team will be around in 15 years. I share the discovery, no pun intended, with folks I know. No, Phil, I do not believe most of y’all will be pushing up daisies in 2033. I love you guys. I won’t share my favorites, but I will say that Carenza’s absence was keenly missed. Also, as every comment about Phil has said, his enthusiasm for his craft is so inviting. Tony, you don’t need accolades as you are such a beloved public figure. Mick, I miss seeing your sweater and similar items, but I also miss your commitment to archeology. I’m an American and former English teacher, and I hate hearing folks say “amount” for “number.” Petty perhaps, but in a way, I’m glad…I probably shouldn’t say more!
Phil, I knew you would be chomping at the bit to speak when the young lady asked about being an archaeologist. You are a born teacher who wants to share your passion with others. I hope the light of your passion shines through not just for your lifetime, long live you, but for time immemorial.

This has been a joy to watch and I most sincerely hope there are lots and lots more "gather and talk" scenarios like this (with and without audience as they wish). Very interesting and emotionally comforting to see so many of the cast gathered together.

What I most want are follow-ups to the TT shows. The man who invested in land for development and bones were found...what happened there? There were several shows that ended with more questions than answers. New shows would be great, but follow-ups would make a nice special show.

Why did Tony take the mic away from Carenza, and then passed it on to others? There are only two women on this panel and nothing against the fine fellows, who I admire, but diversity is so important these days, we need to hear a balance of voices. Which reminds me, I wish that Rakshah could have been up there.

I can see storage would be a problem. But instead of filling museum basements. Put them in there local environment. In council buildings. Schools.. hotel receptions. Anywhere that local people will see there local archeology. A simple cabinet would be enough.

What the American woman said should be enhanced so people can hear it. She said what I would have said about the continuing appeal of TT (and the fact that the internet is still bringing it to new audiences;) and particularly the fact that, for a lot of us, what made the show special (and what would make it SO DIFFICULT to recreate) is the personalities, the sense of cameraderie, or even of family, among the team members. They're delightful people, and a TT reboot would need to find that perfect combination of expertise, dedication, and personality. I think Mick was, to a great extent, the architect of the mix, of getting the right people into the team, but even if he wasn't, I think you'd still need a Mick to make it happen. Not that no one else is as visionary, or as inspiring (although he was quite gifted in both respects.) It's just that there was such a perfect confluence of factors in the creation of Time Team, it was the place where a need and the means of its fulfillment arrived at the same place at the same time.
In other words, it was magic.
    And Mick was its Merlin.

As a huge history and archeology nut in the USA, time team has been my surrogate fix of both since we here in the States, both government and people, don't seem to care or want to hide the truth from the public.

I don't get their duality of "Make archaeology accessible to everyone, not just snooty upper-class intellects" and then "Brexit sure was bad, we need foreigners!". You'd think studying Britain's history would make them realize Britain's survived even before there was an EU.
