There are various things that may affect whether or not a building needs to be sprinklered or not. IBC Chapter 5 will let you know what size of a building you are able to design with and without sprinklers. Building Type, Occupancy Group and Square footage all play a part in determining this. Local jurisdictions may require that all new construction be fire sprinklered, regardless of what the IBC states. Be sure to check with both.
Fire proof, rot proof, insect proof, longer spans with difference thicknesses with out changing the nominal size of the stud or joist, cut lengths by order.

What do you mean by deflection? how to pick a stud size for certain wall that is a certain heigh?
