As an Italian, I know what losing a war means. I saw a lot of similar footages of my country after WW2 and watching this video I can find the same sentiment in these people's eyes. They were not crying or complaining, they just had the responsability to rebuild a country. I'm glad they succeded
I lived in West Berlin from 1973-76 when the Berlin Wall was dividing the city. My family used to take approved trips to East Berlin to shop. We thought we might get shot! My dad was Chief air traffic controller in US Air Force stationed at Templehoff. I went to the Berlin American High School from 9th grade to the start of 12th grade. A lot of fond memories growing up in Berlin. I returned to Berlin in 2009 to visit. It was like going back in time. It is a wonderful city! Amazing video!
Question for Ez. Curious about your respect for Germany and the admiration of the German people? I would agree from an stand point of innovation and rebuilding. Not so much from a standpoint of causing immeasurable human suffering. ( I am in the neighborhood of 80 percent German lineage by most accounts. ). Certainly has ( and had ) many great and wonderful people. Interested in what has shaped your overview. Thanks and cheers.
@@teatonaz Human suffering has been prevalent in all cultures. We tend to downplay all the German peoples for a brief period in time. Yet we forget, have forgotten and often looked away from the atrocities commited by the allies, mainly the British for all the blood they have spilt. Yet they're often crowned as progenitors of peace knowing very well, they destroyed the Indian Subcontinent, ransacked kingdoms, stole all their wealth, and enslaved generations, dividing a long lineage of people. Could definitely say for the Americans as well; very well known for the mass slavery and ill treatment of the natives and the blacks. In the short span of Germany, the hypocrisy of people still attribute them to this day for something in the past. They still get flack even though modern Germany and the German people have moved forward... yet a few people still incline themselves to old strife. I just wanted to correct the narrator on This documentary. The Berlin Wall was constructed on the 13th of August 1961 not 1962. We have just passed the 60th anniversary of its construction.
