- Cuban-American painter Jose Parla, a former street artist, is now much in demand for his huge murals and mixed-media works, which he calls direct descendants of the graffiti of his youth. Rita Braver profiles the Brooklyn-based artist, and talks to him about his large-scale work that now graces the lobby of One World Trade Center in New York City.
Wow...can't Believe the amount of Hater comments..i personally knew the guy & He is the Real deal Graff artist! Who happened to successfully transition to the Art world Good for him..He was a Humble Dude & B-boy to boot Props Parla!! His Success is well earned!! Salute bro!!
y’all are mean asf😂😂🥺 you can tell from watching he was doing graffiti since he was little, it’s seems his taste just changed as he got older and probably had more interest in other painting styles because he wanted to express his art in different ways other than just graffiti and he incorporates it in a lot of his pieces.
“Graffiti Movement”
It’s not a mf protest, it’s a culture of art.
thank you for sharing this piece, having just enetered the art world i have found thngs i am using in my works thinking it is weird and not the right things to do i am finding the very accommplished artists like this artist are using the same things and that blows me away so enciuraging love this work

Great old school style at 2:12!
Jose is a old room mate. Congrats.. Him and his bro are great guys.. Real b boys
Tasting with his eyes and touching with his ears...he probably eats soup with his eyes and unlocks his phone with his earlobe lol
Are you envious?
Dope on the dope style 😎
no comments? The 1st time I saw his work was in Juxtapose magazine over ten years ago and it caught my interest then w/ it's multi layered surface of a wall that is weathered and worn. A look that has always been of interest to me. Now the color in his work is more vibrant with his use of color. Very Nice hope to see his work in person some day.
6ou got first comment
I call BS. Good for him...great opportunity, however...WTF. That Hong Kong piece looks dope tho. Colors and scribbles...abstract works are nice, but come on bro...this is the "One World Trade Center." It should be more thought provoking, some inkling of actual content that viewers can hold on to.
Good for him to move away from the straight jacket of graffiti art, with its rigid rules of expression (people making the same angles, same frames, same gestures over and over again) into more interesting layered works that explore subtleties in color and line. The mural for the Barclays Center is one of his best, using an analogous color scheme.
You have no clue what graffiti is about. It it's a constantly evolving art form, it is the one true american form of art that had lasted longer than any other form of american style of art. It is a form of expression, pain, love, dedication and therapy, it's the only style of american art that has lasted for the last sixty years and has influenced every other country on the planet.
You know why he is famous.. he paints giant paintings.
Bro… “Strength and Unity”?? That is literally just random paint on the wall
How bland. Few respected writers will even have heard of this plonker
I've been writing for 25 years and I know who he is, the only disrespect is coming from you.
Never heard of him.
Glorified scribble Scrabble that's all it is.
