Just bought a CX bike and went for my first ride today. Paths, roads, gravel...and then I came to a snowy park that still had sled jumps built. You better believe I got airborne a few times on those jumps! As a roadie (mainly crit racer), it will be a great way to continue to ride outside year round while at the same time, maintaining the same position and riding style as road. I have an old MTB, and it’s fun too, but it’s just so different. My cross boss is basically my road bike with fatter tires and that I can ride pretty much anywhere except single track
Recently got into Cyclocross. Got myself a 2nd hand PlanetX Cyclocross Bike and I absolutely love it! More comfortable on long road rides and you can literally turn off a road onto a gravel/mud track and see stuff you wouldn't normally see!
What amaze me from all of GCN videos are how good their presenters are! They could talk easily after these pedaling they did! Being new to cycling community, I really dig these contents.
This may be the most enjoyable video I’ve watched on GCN. It’s literally about playing in the mud with your bike. I’m now rethinking my next bike purchase.
Loved the video - it's exactly what I do with my gravel bike - any terrain and the muddier the better, makes me feel like a kid again. Until I get home and my wife squirts me with the hose outside to clean off :( Nice job!
I like to think that Hank carries his OTT enthusiasm through to everyday things, like making toast or solving a crossword puzzle. It's just pure joy :D

Yep, there’s really not much difference in the U.K. as with the exception of some forestry roads we don’t have much actual gravel. Most U.K. ‘gravel’ is muddy bridleways.
KevB Gravel bikes are most of the time heavier bikes meant for long exploring rides. Light cross bikes you use in the mud on a parkour that repeats itself multiple times with plenty of obstacles you have to know inside out.
@@pieterm.7615 yeah, I think this is the thing that some people miss. Cyclocross is a race discipline. Great fun, makes you a better rider and gives you riding options in the winter. Rather than just training indoors you can RIDE outside. You can generally tell CX riders in the club as they look more confident in tricky situations
You don't need to ride with the pros, there are plenty of clubs that do cyclocross events. My club, welland valley, runs local league races. There are also mtb events that you can ride in. I have seen a few crosses in the friday nights summer series, which is mtb racing. Also mountain bike orienteering events will see a good smattering of crossers. One note. Those tyres are more summer issue. You want a bit more nobly to get up that grassy hill. You can get just as much fun with an entry hardtail mtb. 1.8s for winter.

I love it! It's exactly why I didn't know what type of bike to buy! (got a hybrid in April, as it was similar to the old Mountain bike I grew up with, but just ordered my first road bike) Old school mountain biking! The old Rigid frame, no big jumps, just speed and a bit of slip, but on those cross, does require more skill than a modern mountain bike. I take my hybrid on similar tracks, with 32mm slick's, or 42mm minimal grip. It's fun, but with the proper tires it's faster but more boring! I think it was invented because, you were either a roadie, or not, and as time has gone on the gap widened making the old Mountain bike, either a modern Hybrid or a the road version, a Gravel or cross bike, which with except for the handlebars is exactly the same as my OLD Rigid Mountain bike.
I've never been able to understand the appeal of cyclocross.....getting freezing cold, soaking wet, and covered from head to toe in mud....that's what I used to do as a kid !. Aaahhh...NOW I get it ! 😁
Awesome fun going over that varied soft-muddy-terrain. Do-able on a bike with rim brakes but much for predictable with disc brakes. Great to see GCN team highlighting the need to have fun and not just speed. Also great point about riding on road producing greater wind-chill because of the sustained speeds of the bikes on the roads. That's why typically MTB and road riders can have differing clothing and layering systems. 👍

I am too trapped in the city to try it, but that was fun to watch.
When was this filmed? It's 0C outside now. An all body dip is for people who have a car or home very near by. Hypothermia is boss.
The only problem I cannot resolve is how to safely ride through the frozen muddy ruts.
Any idea?
Yes for riding in winter. The most enjoyable...... No one else there 😃
No, that's a bit too much for me. In winter I like riding on clean snow and playing roulette with ice.

I read cyclocross in the title, but all I've seen was James practicing his Olympic dive in a muddy pond. 😅
