What memories that old church holds- funerals, weddings, and souls being saved!
Exactly, I felt a bit teary... Wonderful find.
great memories.
Don't forget the klan rallies 😉
Deborah Bradshaw Were you really young attending there? I am just wondering exactly how old it is
Amen!.........🙂👍👋🇨🇦🌟
That church is in the ghost town of Rodney. Rodney was a bustling town in the 1800’s before the civil war. It was one of the largest towns in Mississippi. It was located in the banks of the Mississippi River. Sometime after the war the river changed course and Rodney was miles from the river. This killed the town and most of the people moved away.
Thank you for some historic background information on this church.
Oh my goodness.. thank you for educating us!!!!
Sue you know a lot about this town, would you contact me Thank you Linda
Linda T hi Linda. I just saw your message. How can I help you?
What denomination was it? Neat steaple.
One more thing thank you for treating it with some respect churches are not very important to most people nowadays
Vacant churches alway make me sad. Maybe it's because I am a believer.
Steelhorsecowboy pray for the little church to be fixed up and used again
Cowboy, I agree. Watching this made me sad as will because I am also a believer in God.
Why??? Churches are moneymakers.....I am a God fearing man and I belong to no man made religion.
Same here.
@@thomasjensen6243 not all church members or pastors are like what they see on tv. Specially small congregations. Most of us truly care for each other. We are the church as you know, but it's always nice to have a place to gather with the same mindset and purpose. When you find the right God-fearing congregation you become like family. I just love my faith family.
I see old buildings and wish someone would restore and put them to good use once again.
So much life and energy they have seen.
+NormanNorthman
If you saw these buildings up close you would understand why people don't. Houses this old in the humid southern climate might look ok from a distance but they're beyond rehabilitating. Would be cheaper to build a new house.
Reminds me of a church in slavery/ segregation time when Black folks could come to church but sit in the balcony.
I do like looking at abandoned places and just imagine what went on, how life was lived. Would love to go on an excursion.
That balcony was the choir box.
In mississippi black people and white people did not go the same churches . It is like that today although you could go to a black or white church if you want to and some are mixed . For the most part you have segregated churches , not forced segregation but both races choose to segregate
I'm not sure why I felt a bit emotional, but just seeing the overview from the balcony you could feel the many prayers that were sent to heaven from that location. Also amazing people have had enough respect not to vandalize this beautiful once church... Thanks Chris!
It's because this means something to you, your country, your heritage...a beautiful little building with so much people history....
I agree
I felt the same exact way at the same time 🙏❤
There was graffiti in the balcony, I wonder do they carry a can of spray paint around all the time? I've seen graffiti way out in the back country in Death Valley miles in, they had to drive there, no way they walked. If I were walking in Death Valley, the last thing I'd be caring would be a can of paint, if I wanted to mark some thing, I'd just pee on it, but that's just me. Thanks for the vids, New Sub
It is refreshing to see a place like this virtually untouched by graffiti. Nice find!
I know Chris never has a negative thing to say about it, but man I hate 95% of the graffiti he finds on these places. It's such an abuse of history, even if that history is decaying.
There was a small spot of it on the balcony but thats it , wow maybe because it a church the vandals are respectful
The meth addicts just could not find it
Teenagers are completely useless and the worst vandals of our history
My husband said the same thing about the grafitti !
What a beautiful structure! Lots of dentated trim, a domed steeple, and Gothic windows, plus lath-and-plaster and wainscoting on the inside. Craftsmanship was the hallmark of the builders' trade in bygone days---and I hope it's still alive and being passed on to new generations. Thank you, Chris.
If I had the means, I would totally restore the church, make it into a home and keep those beautiful windows!
But make sure you rebuild the foundation much higher, or put it on stilts due to it being in a flood zone. 💒🚿
Kristy S No bathrooms?
@@nsr5961 there probably was an outhouse at one time, before the flood.

@@dankoher4318 wow a fucking comedian! Very funny, don't quit your day job there Seinfeld. 😏
This is the deserted town of Rodney, Ms. It was abandoned years ago for many reasons among which the change of the coarse of the Mississippi River. Yes it does flood when the river is at flood stage. That is the choir loft up those stairs. No confessional it it not Catholic.
Thank you for identifying that as a choir loft. I scrolled down, _knowing_ someone would recognize that fact and I'm sure Chris appreciates the information, as he often asks for information.
kind of heartbreaking to see such place abandoned.
Thank you for being humble in asking viewers to fill in the gaps of what you're seeing.
You are never disrespectful.
🎶 as I go down to the river to pray
Studyin about that good ol way
Ooooo brothers lets go down cmon down Let’s go down down to the river to pray 🎶
Truly amazing, if only builder's would build buildings like that now, to withstand years of wear and tear.
A lot of commercial buildings are, but we still tear them down after 30 years so developers can build anew. Seems wasteful. Where I am maybe 40 years is all a building is allowed to stand before it's demolished.

Beautiful old church. If the walls could talk. Many prayers were prayed and answered. Wonderful!
Very beautiful... I love old structures because for the most part it’s eco friendly... I am sure the sweat and labor to build this church cannot be replicated; only the Amish still build like this
Hello! That's not a confessional box my friend!
From the archatectual design my educated guess would be that this church was most likely a black church at one time because its location, and its size and being out in the very rural area as well as being as basic as it can be to serve its purpose, hence why it has no stained glass, bathrooms or Sunday school rooms, not even padded pews! As basic as a church gets! Most likely mostly adult petitioners would be my guess of what this church had!!However its certainly is not, nor was it, a Catholic church ( no need of a confession box) but more likely a southern Baptist church or old Presbyterian church! Either or, as a pastor now looking for a church, it breaks my heart to see these old time churches abandoned, for I can see and know that at one time many souls were saved here and that TRUE worship took place!
Thank you for the video & may God bless you!
PS. After seeing the balcony I'll guarantee you its an old black southern Baptist church, guarantee it!! I'll also bet that the bell is original and most likely solid brass as well! BEAUTIFUL, BUT SAD!!
The other possibility is that it could had been moved to that location and belongs to someone near? Just a thought! God bless!
Hurtful to see such beauty wasted and forgotten.
God’ I wish it could be restored. It’s gorgeous
For what? In remembrance of the slaves they owned! Not too mention all of the murders those heathens transgressed! But woe unto them, judgement will prevail!!
I’m from MS and know exactly what town you’re exploring. 🙂
Where is this?
ArienUndomiel please share! I’m in Brandon but from the Coast...
@@teresaread8185 Lived in Brookhaven and now on the coast. Been to Brandon many times!
I wish someone could bring me there, a beautiful place!
Chris the front has a mud/water line. I'd say flood.
I saw that there was a water line the moment Chris walked up to the building. This was confirmed by similar water damage inside too.
Lovely old building though.
Happens frequently. Every time the Mississippi floods, this poor church gets water. Wish a group would move it like they moved the Rodney Catholic Church to Grand Gulf.
Wow. I would love to come across this in the woods. Just beautiful. Great job Chris.
I love old churches! So much history took place there! There is a church like that where I live from that time period but they kept it up and made it a museum for people to visit. Thank you for sharing!
I love these really old places this church is beautiful and holds so many memories.
That bell tower is awesome
Very respectful video. I live in Mississippi . I live in a small town and there are alot of abandoned churches and cemeteries around. They are still beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Very peaceful and cool place for worship. Hi Glinda how are you doing with your family I hope you’re safe from the virus?
Last flood 2016, this was a Baptist church.
I wonder if there's a graveyard near-by
I live in Boston ma now but I was born in Mississippi there are a lot of abandoned churches in Mississippi
Another great video, Chris. Thinking of all the singing, love & laughter streaming through
Those windows.
this church back in his Glory days served as everything tell meeting Hall School hospital I love to see that I just hate that they let it go down so badly
Reminds me of my grandmother's church in Alabama.
It’s gorgeous but simple Greek revival. It would make a great home. That facade is precious Americana.
Notice the water line on the outside and inside some of the walls have them as well the mud on the floors would be from flooding I’d assume
Great find! Would love to know the history of that church. Safe travels!
All I was thinking while watching this was how I’d love to buy that old church and where I’d put the bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen. Lol beautiful church and beautiful scenery.
Thanks for sharing. I think in it's time it was beautiful. What stories it could tell. 🙏❤😊
Wow it really is beautiful even now! I try to imagine it in it's heyday
Thank you for taking us along. It's interesting to see, thank you again😊
Fun Fact - The Town that this church is located in (Rodney, MS) was just three votes away from becoming the state capital of the Mississippi Territory.
I’m curious if the house next door was inhabited or abandoned. It’s so weird that those two places were out in the middle of nowhere.
Hi Chris - Nice church, with almost no graffiti (a little tiny bit in the balcony area). Thanks for taking us along.
Very-nostalgic,,,It's-Best-to-remember-that-"We-Are-the-Church"....God-Bless-Everyone!
I wish I could buy this church and turn it into my home to live in.🤔🤔

Lovely old place. Loved the video. Thanx for sharing
I live in Mississippi, this kept popping up so I decided to watch..🤗
You are so brave to walk up those stairs!!!
This church represents every human being an everything in this world. Eventually we will be forgotten an left alone so we spen most of our life chasing stuff that's gonna be like this church someday an we call that success hahahaha
Nice find! Thanks for sharing
Nice
How nice to sit on the balcony of the near by house at sunset and contemplate life.
I'm not in the US so this is all intriguing to me.
It’s an architectural GEM! Sad it’s not appreciated and restored!
There's another church on the way there (coming from Brookhaven) that still has the piano as well as hymn book! Getting into Rodney was an adventure in itself, but I'm glad to see nothing has happened to the church! I wonder why they moved the bottom pews, they were still in place in 2015
Beautiful! Look at the old lath and plaster, old heater. If those walls could talk. Luv it
That isn't a Catholic Church, it's old Baptist Church that's been abandoned. They don't have confessionals. It was more than likely, an office of some kind. Great video, thank you for the tour.
I can picture how beautiful this church was in its hey day. Its a shame it was ruined by the mud flood. How in the world did you find this. Glad you did.
I've know about it for a while. I think I was researching ghost towns in Mississippi and it came up
What a dreaming church in a beautiful location! I feel the God here, staying and enjoying sunshine and amazing scenery!
It’s REALLY sad to see the abandoned churches of Gary IN and Detroit
I loved the trees and grass taking hold around the place .
So play some Christian Worship music on your phone there. I was just listening to Zach Williams " You are my Rescue Story" on you tube. I'd just jam out there for Jesus & let the Holy Spirit be happy there. ❤❤❤
I know this may not sound like much: these old structures are left standing not only for historical purpose but it’s a place where barn owls can house
Loves & grew up in rural Mississippi...so beautiful....I misses it ..🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🖐🏽🖐🏽👐🏿🖐🏽🖐🏽
What a gorgeous, mysterious little church! Absolutely astonishing! Beautiful video, thank you for it
Very calming and beautiful, thank you for sharing
I love seeing old buildings like that. So neat and yet sad. ❤
Its a baptist church..so no confessional lol i suspect its an old Slave church..i can imagine them singing "Roll Jordan Roll" with great soul!!
I know this area; it was a white church.
I like u we need to link up
Really was hoping you were going to ring the bell
Looks like it was flooded at one time....the water line runs around the perimeter
Thank you so much for taking us along, to see these.....Beautiful, Amazing, Creepy, Nasty, Wonderful, Abandoned places!! Always a pleasure to see. Stay safe, Teresa
Architectural details back in the day is so fascinating!
Love this and Thank You my fellow Mississippians, for the history lesson.
Do you know where exactly it is? Looks like Port Gibson
@@sarahkelly3234 It's 4 1/2 hours from me. No I don't.
It is 30 miles northeast of Natchez, Ms. It also has a cemetery that has unusual stories! I hope this helps
Sarah Kelly please read my comment!!🧡💛💛💙❤💚👍👍
Beautiful church!!! Love the older small churchs!!
Definitely was flooded!! Cool place-nice find!! Thanks for bringing us along!!👍👍👍😁😁😁
What a beautiful church going to waste .
Someone should restore it without changing the church itself and put it to use.
Just beautiful. I wish I had those windows. Just so beautiful. It was a very nice church at one time. Can you just hear the word of God being taught ?
you have a beautiful voice,.😌
Hi Chris, a lovely little church, sadly all of these smaller churches seem to be just left to decay now. Thanks for sharing. x
I looked it up on line and that just might be the former First Presbyterian Church location, Southwest Mississippi.
Wow 😮 God Finds Anything. THANK YOU FOR FINDING IT MAYBE SOMEONE WILL FIX IT UP.
I’m from Mississippi. I love this!!!
I’m from flora I love it too. Hi sherry how are you doing with your family I hope you’re safe from the virus ?
Beautiful old church ❤️
I grew up in Mississippi...when I was about 10 years old I walked out of a church & a bee stung me on my bottom lip...I wonder is this the same church !!!!!!
The inside church looks in better shape than my neighbor inside the unit. Apt for real
They done this to keep them from floating off , it’s the way people use to do it must be inside the flood zone of the Mississippi River at one time I bet it was amazing
Nice little find. Love seeing these old structures.
Beautiful church
Amazing
What a nice dance hall it would make..the stage for the band is in the right place..you got to have a fiddle in the band!!
Remind me of a hymns. Church in the wild wood
Good job, love your videos and I just subscribed. Keep up the good work!
That will tell us that nothing is permanent in this world.
The saints did not let one moment of time be spared for this moment of these abandoned churches- it was a testament to the world !
The band Lucero used that church as one of their album covers.....thought I recognized it!
I just googled that album cover and there's the church while it was flooded, that's so cool!
No doubt about it. That's the album cover...
All buildings end up "in the woods" if upkeep is neglected.
Congradulations to you for all the hard work you do! So many abandoned structures along RT 13 going through Eastern shore Maryland and Virginia...full of mystery! It is good you have a steady partner to assist you.
That would be a beautiful restoration
You're doing some beautiful filming in this and I've enjoyed this one in particular. It was obviously at one time an architecturally beautiful building. Just a suggestion, if you're going to comment on churches, you might consider trying to find out something about the particular religious group the church was a part of. I've noticed that you made the following comment and I've heard it by others who comment on churches in their productions as well. You (and they also) commented about a "confessional" in the facilities. To my knowledge, it's primarily only Catholic churches that have confessionals. Evangelical and Protestant churches don't have confessionals nor do they practice confessing sins to a clergyman or minister.
If it were fixable I would love to restore it and live in it 😍 beautiful!!
How do you find these places?!!!!!
More than likely from viewer suggestions...
I would like to restore it and live there😁😘.
Same!!😉💜
God bless you
What an incredible find. I can’t imagine the history in that building. Great channel, subscribed. ✌️
Looking at it really well it looks like the church where the walking dead was filmed at but it’s beautiful being old but it’s still a house of god
