A friend of mine visited this place with his family in 1965, when he was 12. He’s very nostalgic about this and all the fun he had.
It was a great place. The dance hall building was a beautiful old building that should still be standing and used today. It was a great place.
Chippewa Lake was acquired by Continental Business Enterprises in 1969, and the company developed plans to transform the park into more of a summer resort; these plans, however, drew very little public interest and funding and most of the plans were scrapped. The park would later close in 1978 - which was the park's centennial season - under the company's ownership, owing to factors like competition from nearby Cedar Point and the now defunct Geauga Lake amusement parks, as well as the decline of steel and rubber production in the surrounding areas. It was largely unknown to the public that the park's 100th season would be its last; the park closed rather secretly without any big media coverage or massive public outcry. When the park shut down, former owner Parker Beach made a request to his family that he be buried there when he died, to which his family agreed.[citation needed] The site where Beach's body is buried in the park is unknown. In the 2007 documentary, "Welcome Back Riders", at the very end, it said Be respectful if you try to find Parker Beach's Grave. Let him enjoy his park in peace. ...It's by the roller coaster.

I love that you were able to find photos and footage of many of the things you found, presenting a wonderful “then and now” picture. Thanks for the video.
There was quite a few videos on this place on UA-cam. I looked them up. My father use to work there as a teenager. I was there once myself, don't remember much. It was still open. But not a lot left to it by then. That would have been sometime in the 70's.
Wow it's just so hard to do a Google search I am fighting the footage online. Give me a f****** break probably took the guy less than 5 minutes. Go and do a Google search for this for this area and you will find all the same pictures and more.

I'm sorry if I made fun of your little Hobby that's remind you of your childhood when you used to hide something and then make a treasure map for your friends to find LOL.. you're telling me to get a life when you're interested and put somebody down who is simply giving their opinion. Yeah it's just so exciting to waste a bunch of gas money driving to certain coordinates. Get out of the car walk not more then at the most a mile. Most of them are not very even far off the road. Then go find these spots where you really see nothing more then a ledger or something and maybe some bottles of water and some snacks. You sign your name saying that you've been there and what time. Maybe leave some snacks of your own or a little something and then off to the next. This is just so f****** fun if you were a little kid. Cuz my son got interested in this until we went on a road trip to find these. After about finding three pretty close together in Washington State. In western Washington. My son was completely bored with it and we turn the road trip into something completely different. In the 90s my band used to tour all around the United States and other countries. One of my bandmates used to subscribe to this magazine. In this magazine it told us of many spots throughout the u.s. that had these Geo casting coordinates. Same thing happened. We stopped at two or three of them saw how f****** lame they were and discontinued going to any more. I tried to tell my son when he has asked to do this later. That it was completely stupid and basically a waste of time. That my seven-year-old son likes finding things. So of course being the cool father that I am and knowing this was completely a waste of time. We took off to go find these only for him who is 7 years old. To realize himself that this was completely boring and a waste of time. By this time we were near the ocean in Westport in Washington State. So we just chartered a fishing boat and went fishing instead and had so much more fun. What it cost to go on that fishing boat I would have paid twice as much going to all the spots that my son wanted to go to in Washington and Oregon to find these stupid Geo casting sites. So I'm sorry that I put down your stupid little Hobby. It probably is fun and interesting for the brain dead like you. It must be so exciting for you to go to these spots & your name to The Ledger. Oh but you're saying my life is shity. I do things like hang glide and skydive. We ride motorcycles and jet skis and snowmobiles in the winter time. I dive for the local sheriff's department and now have taught my son. like this summer me and my son went to the Caribbean and we Scuba dived looking at ships that sunk hundreds of years ago. so you have fun with your life driving to these stupid places barely off the road. only to find this Geo casting spot simply to basically sign your name saying you've been there. wow that sounds so much more funner and so much more of a life then hang gliding or skydiving or scuba diving to a sunken pirate ship that's hundreds of years old. so you continue with your awesome Adventures Geo casting. and I will stick with my shity boring life LOL

And also maybe someone like you who is as slow as you are using one finger it might take you 30 minutes to type all that. But someone like me on a computer that would take no more than a few minutes maybe 5 minutes tops using my phone. But I hate to disappoint you. But just like when I wrote this comment and just like I wrote the last comment I was simply using a talk-to-text feature that most Samsung or Apple phones have. Went there many times in the 1950's. Lived in Olmsted Falls and was allways excited when our family went there.
When I was a kid I lived in Berea and my Aunt and Uncle lived in Chippewa. I've had thoughts of buying a place there.
Random fact: there actually used to be a railway that ran from Cleveland to this park that is also defunct. And also the son of the second owner Parker Beach was rumored to be buried somewhere on the site at his request to his family. Interesting place. Been on the lake many times and it's creepy as hell to see the rusty ferris wheel over the tree tops.
Edit: the random fact is the railway. It was called the inter-urban. The part about Parker is a rumor.

Admin Visser No offense to some people.. but some people act as if it’s a privilege to hear them speak lol. They don’t come up for air and take way too long to get to the purpose of the video. They also tend to post way too many videos. I think it comes from overall compulsion... Anyhow, that’s not the case with this awesome channel.

But what’s more amazing is he said parts of it had been cleared 20 years ago when the property was bought.

I grew up in Chippewa Lake, what a great place to have a childhood. The ferris wheel was advertised as the fastest in Ohio. The view of the lake was spectacular from the top. Too many memories to post here. Such a sad ending for a truly wonderful park. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
We used to go there too but why was it abandoned like that and blighted? When Geauga Lake closed they sold practically everything but did not leave the rest to rust away. I heard Chippewa Lake was sold to a developer & new homes were built there but obviously that was wrong information. Too bad they didn't make it a wildlife preserve or park.

Chippewa Lake was probably 40 or 50 miles southwest of Geauga Lake
I was lucky enough to explore this place with my dad, mother and cousin back in 2001. The swinging cages were still there and they were my dad’s favorite ride back in the 60’s and he was actually able to get them to function as much as the overgrowth would allow. It’s too bad you didn’t make it there prior to that idiot kid setting that beautiful ballroom on fire. It was treacherous walking around in there but it was beautiful nonetheless. They tore the wooden coaster down in 2009 but I have videos taken by my mother of me climbing the lift hill. I went back numerous times over the years, the most recent with my stepson. The only selfie I have ever taken was me and him standing below the Ferris wheel. Interesting fact about that Ferris Wheel, it was the fastest in the state in it’s day. That tumble bug is one of only THREE left in existence and the damn thing has been rotting away for 41 years.

Yes Chippewa Lake that’s the I was down there very very small like about five or 10 years old but I remember it and I’m 55 years old now so yes I do remember that Chippewa Lake amusement park.

I love the urinals just in the middle of the woods exposed. The aesthetics of abandoned places is so interesting to me. Between your channel and the Proper People I've learned and seen so many things and I appreciate you for that. I have started seeking out abandoned places for photography in large part due to your channel and I thank you for turning me on to this hobby!

The Discovery Channel did a series called “Life After Humans” about what happens to civilization after it is abandoned.
40 years of abandonment and this amusement park is covered by woods, nature reclaiming what man had built.
Bottom line of every episode of “Life After Humans”: After 10,000 years there will be virtually no trace that man was ever here. Even concrete and steel will disintegrate and everything will be covered by dirt and overgrown with vegetation.

This gentleman who puts these videos together is absolutely fantastic in my eyes! He has incredible knowledge about what he shows video of and takes you there as if you are there! Some of these things I wasn't even aware of in history until I started watching this gentleman's videos and I'm grateful for it! I'm not saying I'm smarter for it but I am a little more well informed now! 😀😁
We use to drive out there with our small children 20yrs ago just to look. I'm from Brady Lake Ohio, we had a Amusement Park at the lake as well. My grandparents built a summer home when it was 1st developed and my parents live there to this day. My father you to visit Chippewa as a child. In fact his band he's had since high school use to play at Chippewa lake. Many memories at that park. I grew up and worked at Geagua Lake Park. My kids grew up going as well. Are you familiar with Brady Lake Amusement Park or the Amusement park that was in Stow Ohio. Think it was called Silver Lake Park. Ohio had MANY Amusement parks in the Late 1800's, early 1900's
I'm a 70's baby, my father and grandparents use to take us to the older parks when we were little. Conneaut Lake park on OH/PA border is probably the oldest park remaining that we still visit annually. I love ther history of the old parks!

I love when you find old pictures or video to show what it used to look like. Really gives you a sense of age. I would be afraid to walk through all that brush. Not sure what poison sumac or ivy looks like.
Very well done. The viewer can feel the respect the person making this has. As others have said, no overblown narration, just enough words to convey what he was thinking. When he didn't know what something was, he said so rather than make something up. THIS is the way a UA-cam video should be put together. Well done sir.

The house in the front had some awesome celebrities way back when. Dean Martin - all sorts of people. They stayed there and preformed all weekend. Miss it

As a youngster, growing up in the Cleveland area, we'd go to Chippewa Lake Amusement Park every summer. Good times! AND that was the single scariest (meaning REALLY FAST) Ferris Wheel of any amusement park of it's day. BUT still we'd go on it every single summer! This is a bittersweet video. Time, as they say, marches on. But those fun memories from over 50 years come back vividly! And they remain for us old-timers, a comfort!
AND, I love that you find the old photos of the place you're exploring back in its heyday.

Love everything about your videos. You can tell you put a lot of work into them. Some people just show the ruins but you go a step further and show what it looked like before it fell into disrepair and I love the history.

The overgrowth looks much older than the early 2000s. I agree with the OP who said it closed it 1978.

When you pushed that part and it began swinging, in my head I thought in terms of a sci-fi film. Where the carnival music and voices of days gone by begin to be heard in the breeze, and then you go back in time. In a blink of the eye, the rusty beams and overgrown forest, is now back to it's original condition full of vibrant color and sweet smells. Children running past in joyous squeals with cotton candy, while parents follow after. You look around in amazement and then just moments into it, it all begins to be disappear, the voices fade away, leaving you bewildered as to what just happened. I should make a movie lol.

A long gone amusement park (West View Park) in Pittsburgh had that ride with the cages at 9:55. At one time they called it the "Alley Oop" (like the old song). Two people would stand in the cage facing each other and there was a bar between them. They would push and pull the bar and the goal was to swing the cage high enough to make the cage do a complete up and over circle and back down again. Your arms got a work out, lol.

Because you realize that this place REALLY MEANT SOMETHING NICE FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE for a very long time...and that it just...slowly vanished...like all of us will one day

Fascinating. At one time Ohio had several small amusement parks here and there. I vaguely remember Buckeye Lake as a child. Closed in the 1960s I think. Never knew there was a park in Medina. Probably couldn't compete with Cedar Point. Hope you didn't get poison ivy, dude. Thanks for sharing.
Very cool. My mom worked there during the summer when she was in high school and college. She told me lots of stories from that time.

What a good video so many good memories probably made there by family's. I found it heart breaking that its like that now
I remember going there as a child for my dad's shop picnic.my favorite ride was the space ships near the waters edge. Explored it back in the early 2000s. Looking at Google maps most of it is housing development. I hope they didn't disturb the grave.
So sad to see that tumble bug rotted away. Here in Pennsylvania we have the last two still in operation one at kennywood park called the turtle and one at conneaut lake park still called the tumble bug. They are great rides!
I was thinking the same thing about the turtle. Have ridden many times. Grandparents grew up across the river in Braddock and Rankin.

I grew up in Ohio but can't recall ever hearing of this place. As a kid my amusement park was LeSourdsville, located just north of Hamilton on Route 4. It opened in 1922 and closed down forever in 2002. Went there many times with family and friends. It was great fun. Enjoyed your video.

Fabulous and gripping footage of abandoned heritage, with nature well into the process of reclaiming the land, I really appreciate your clips and historical research of former owners and halcyon days...
This reminds me very much of an amusement park that I recall my family and I driving past when I was very young. I vauguely remember it being operational as I wanted to go on the rides seeing it from the highway. Then at some point after within a few years at least it was closed and abandoned, stayed that way for years. Its condition reminded me of this place in your video thought it was a bit more held up as it was a very small park and is near a busy highway so vandalism was minimal. It was eventually torn down and now that area has hotels, restaurants, etc, ended up working at the theater there for about 5 years. There's something fascinating about exploring abandoned places that once were busy.
