What i love about Jon is that he makes people have to fight him a certain way. He only really gets in engagements when hes ready for them. He keeps you at his range at basically all times with both hands out and leg kicks. He literally picks you apart while youre trying to get to him. You might get a few off on him but his defense is crazy and he only really use kicks and knees. He already hit you multiple times before you even touched him. Then when he knows he got you, he really starts to engage and from there youre at his will. Elbows,knees,oblique kicks. You think hes only a striker but then he takes you down and it only gets worse. He has zero holes in his fighting.
No he has plenty of holes in his fighting. His stand up is not great. That check hook he was throwing was not good. Reyes dominated him on the feet and stuffed his takedowns or mitigated them. He lost to gus as well. He got lucky with the DC head kick because when he isn't able to injure or wear down fighters early he takes a beating trying to box. Both Gus and Reyes showed this. He's been saved by the judges twice and he's an overzealous striker who cares about bending the rules to hurt people more than just winning. He's scared to lose and he has a loss and it should be 3 losses.
@@Repetoire Jon jones standup really only consists of oblique kicks, legs kicks, clinch knees and elbows, body kicks, and occasionally he will throw a right straight but he uses it like a jab. he set DC up for that head kick. He was kicking his legs and body all night. Hes always known for kicking low. Hes also a southpaw by default so it creates perfect opportunities to do front low kicks at any stance and angle. DC was creating problems in the clinch because he knew Jon would keep him as far as possible with the leg kicks. Jon set it up perfectly. Switched stances and threw a perfectly place left kick to the head. You got me at Reyes. I still think jon won but Reyes gave him the most convincing fight that was up to decision. Fighter wise, you cant sit there and deny his skill and IQ

Jon destroyed Reyes mentally & he got beat 3 straight times after losing to Jon. In order to beat a champ you have to conclusively outskill him which neither of them did they just gave him a good fight. Also one of those losses was a bs DQ but it is what it is.

This was a chess match but on the rewatch, Jones was in control the entire time
Left head kick, to a left cross…then spun him to the mat with a leg kick. Jon is so patient and decisive it’s incredible. Low body attacks for most of the fight set that up perfectly.

I’m sorry i don’t think you should ever judge fights if you thought DC was superior, he got some good shots in but Jones was piecing him up with his entire arsenal of punches, elbows, knees and kicks. Jones fight IQ really showed here when he conditioned him with body kicks then finished him with a high kick to catch him off guard. DC was a great fighter especially for being undersized but I just believe Jones is a different level, his mind was sharper in the cage. Even if DC was taller, he still would have got caught. Jones has too many weapons to prepare for.
