What a special way to spend a summer’s evening
I visited and painted the walk up to Windmill Hill back around 1990, at that time there was a huge row of hay bails. They became the subject of my painting. Its a magical landscape!

Those stones are massive. Way better than Stonehenge and you can experience them alone.
I love this series of yours. Do you know where the missing stones went? Did people take them and break them up to build houses? And did Keiller own the land when he re-erected the stones? so did he put them back exactly where they were supposed to be?
It’s all very interesting. I’ll have to see if I can find more information.
A lot of the Stone was used to Build the Houses and Farmhouses but Keiller Bought Avebury until he Sold it the National Trust.
