Today I visited a protected natural area called Barranca de Huentitán (Huentitán Canyon) where the Santiago River is at the bottom, it is terrible that such a dirty river passes in the middle of a protected area. It is not unusual to see floating garbage, the water smells bad and has foam; There is a lot of life down there but I started to think about the not only local but global implications of this. Many migratory water birds came to the river, especially ducks. I do not know the state of health of the birds but they probably accumulate heavy metals or any contaminant, the thing is that when they return to their breeding sites, they will most likely carry quantities of these components back with them, which implies that these compounds will climb the food web and will most likely have consequences hundreds or thousands of kilometers from the river. It is not only the river, but the place is full of garbage, there are cats everywhere, people walk their dogs without a leash and there is a lot of vandalism on the signs, the stones and even the trees. The problem is that it is a very frequented area and there is 0 vigilance that the rules are followed, in addition to the ignorance of people who do not understand the consequence of their actions and corrupt authorities who don't care at all. Despite all this, it is still an incredible place full of endemic species and it is the last bastion for some species like the green macaw in Guadalajara. There are many better-kept natural areas than this, it is a pity that my favorite place in the area is so degraded.

Thanks You for making a vídeo about México. Justo because You deserve a like.
Great video series! I would like to see similar videos specific to other countries. Perhaps let's do Belize next as it borders Mexico.
It's coming soon 😁
