Great video topic and comparison.
Thanks, Stuart!
Just east of you. Struggling with the drought too. I am getting back to grass that isn't recovered yet. I thought we was going to get a nice storm on Thursday but it hit central Ohio and disappeared. We got less than 1/10 of an inch. Rain in the forecast this week so fingers crossed. I do struggle with multiflora roses in my pasture. Cows just pick at it a little.
Hopefully, next year is better, friend. It’s by far been our most challenging year on pasture.
You might want to look into leaky weirs for that swale. Particularly in the area where it is down to bedrock. The sheep look great.
Thanks, I’ll have to look that one up!
Do a little each day... that is REALLY hard to do. I went hard for so long I ended up kind of burning myself out. Lately I've felt like I'm not doing anything. I definitely need to work on pacing myself better lol 😅 hope you're doing well, my friend!
So so so easy for me to burn out…was JUST talking to my wife about this. I think farming is so much more challenging than other work simply b/c we work AND live in the same place! I’m always looking at stuff that needs done, right? Can’t escape it!! I’ve gotta have that one day a week tho where I just shut it down or I’m toasted by mid-week. Thanks for insightful comment, friend…and we are well here😀
Awesome! Video
Thanks for watching🤠
Hahaha….the ol Samminator wasn’t too impressed with that sweet tate, eh? At least not in THAT moment. Great system you got working with that garden, putting those critters to work for you.
Ha! He might as well just say it, “Dad, nobody gives a rip about ur big potatoes”🤣
😂
I think the invisible fence with GPD would have to be used for median grazing, just because accidents would take out fences too often. The application for sheep and goats is expensive now, but maybe with scale, it would get better…
Agreed…I mean, if nothing else tho some type of grass packer that makes silage bales. Point is there are so many options to better use resources if we can collectively bring ourselves to change the conventional mind-set of grass=liability.
@@birchfieldfarming absolutely! I’d love to drive along and see sheep and goats, but even harvesting would be great.
Placing the water tank and mineral box in opposite areas of the paddock, preferably where you need better fertility. Ultra high density grazing for shorter duration and with adequate recovery time grows a healthier grass stand.
I agree with your statements, generally speaking.
I have said the same thing about the medians and side strips!!! They spend so much time mowing and for what!?!
When you graze ruminants and actually experience it, there’s no going back🤠
@@birchfieldfarming it is such a blessed life that we live to see cows and sheep do what God intended!
@@lauraandrade7909It certainly is!
Create an inclusion zone around the multiflora and put goats/sheep on it. If sheep are on only grass, forbs, and hay; they are a healthy fat. If on grain, then a fat sheep is unhealthy.
The ground is rented, so I keep my animals off it. Yes, I agree with no grain for ruminant animals.
