- Can’t decide where to mount your helmet cam? See all 4 options at the same time and decide what position suits you best. Some of the angles needed fine tuning, I just couldn’t be bothered for a one off vid :)

Chin is the best !
BikeToRoad34 Je valide!!
Je valide aussi :)
Thanks for doing this RJ.
My preference is still he chin mount :)
Side mounts are like being in the side seats at the cinema.. the chin mount being the center seat with the best view of the film :)
The only time I preferred the top view was during the circle of the GTR, but that's thanks to the extra height combined with the wide-angle.
WeeemRCB At last, someone understood the purpose of this vid ;)
RoyalJordanian Of course. It's a very gentle problem. I have been watched numerous videos to decide where I put the gopro. But I'm not content with the top location. Maybe the chin would be the winner, but I'm afraid my helmet is not suitable for that. Side mount is another question, because that's good to see a reference point (the helmet), but it's can't film more than the quarter of your field of vision. And if there's a nice mountain, a beautiful girl or a cheap beer-pub you don't behold, it's not worth.
Hairnemes I go with the chin and top myself also, as Im using a drift weill it had to be top ;)
Chin or left. But i prefer the chin one.
Robonator you right :)
Robonator I agree with chin or left, but I actually prefer the left one :) The top mount shows a lot as well, but it's kind of weird. I think the contour was angled too downwards.
MajsteR yeah top form right about chin or left
Robonator yes i think the chin is best
Robonator left or chin!
Left side of the Helmet is the best RoyalJordanian . I use the same view too. You are correct, it gives the viewer a very nice perception of the rider and a reference point.. Nice video. Cheers! Have a nice day!
lol people seeing you with that on your helmet musta been like; WTF
The Shermanator oh fancy seeing you here.
Robonator :D
Personally, I like the chin mounted view the best. It really gives an "in your shoes" feel to the video, seems like I'm riding the bike. Great video, keep up the good work!
Yeah, left side or the chin. I guess the right side might work just as well, but the Contour was aimed way too low... I like the "horizon" in the middle of my screen :D
But were they all recorded in the same fps and resolution? Somehow the the GoPro 4 had the worst artefacts or digital noise.. or the weird squares... or however they're called...
***** All GoPro's same setting and at at 1080 60, the Contour is at 1080 30 as it does nota do 60 at that resolution.
oh.. and damn the panning of the voice in the beginning...
I'm always listening with my headphones to get the max bass of the exhaust and it's just the worst having somebody talking only in one ear... :D
and sry, in advance, I'm a sound engineer so it's kinda professional problem... ;)
RoyalJordanian hmm.. interesting... I wonder where the quality difference comes from then.. the 3+ looks by far the best..
***** yeah chin is cool because it's lower. And left you can see the helmet :P
***** The break-up in the video is usually caused by UA-cam's coding and is generally not in the original footage.
Got to say, think i prefer the chin view and seen alot of peeps going that way too recently. Keep up the good work RJ and ride safe!
Google street view eat your heart out!! XD
AdjrianNickelodeon wat u here :D
Chin mount has got my vote Royal, it gives a real perspective of what you see rather than just what you look at if you know what I mean.
The video that spawned the "Google Street View Guy"
ua-cam.com/video/rNvkWdzXmDE/v-deo.html
diffidently either chin or left!
Bloody clever mate!
RoyalJordanian i call chin or left also. Looks the best ;)
I like the chin
RoyalJordanian top or left
In my opinion it really depends on the type of footage you want, these are the tips I keep in mind when I record my footage.
-Top mount is better because it can see further over cars and having it a bit up higher gives the feel of a bigger field of view, also gives great shots of the road.
-Chin mount is great for filming the bike and what's directly facing you as you are always looking that way and the things close around you (like filming peds).
-Side mount is for filming landscapes and what's around the road, for example I'd mount it on the right if I'm cruising with the seashore on my right side.
Hope this helps you RJ, keep it up !
I always liked the chin mount view with go pro or on top of the helmet if your using a drift.
Chin and left are +1 for me bud!
*CHIN* -- Well you've mounted the chin gopro crooked, so there goes that one by default :D
*RIGHT* -- That seems more natural, classic RJ
*LEFT* -- Actually that is pretty nice. I prefer right though because oncoming traffic is on your right hand side.
*TOP* -- haha little teeny tiny Nuda, definitely a nope! XD
*One serving of Right for me, please!*
Hagz Loved your latest vid haggez :D
Left is great for capturing London foot traffic (peds) and seeing the drivers you pass and/or talk to = classic RJ style, always a win. Otherwise, I'll take it on the chin. [DING!]
Go pro hero 4 - chin is the best RoyalJordanian
Still love the left mount, although I am liking the chin mount as well. Great video RJ amd lots of choices, thank you !!
GoPro 3+ Black - Left
That way we can see when you open the helmet, talk to people, etc.
"R J" What a great job on this video. Thank you. For me I liked the left side mount a lot but all of them are great. I think it matters what works best for you and what is more comfortable for you to use. That includes eccess by you when you ride as well as the view you want to attain. I am a novice when it comes to videos on a motorcycle. I just recently bought a "Sena Prisim" wireless camera and mounted it on the right side of my helmet. I have the wireless "Sena SMH10" on the left side. I am still learning and am not especially technical. Thank you for all your very fine videos.
left is what we're used to. top looks good
the top view however doesnt see so much ahead of you, more of the ground whereas chin camera looks ahead more
Oscar Thorpe The top cam needed adjusting up a little, as did the right view.
Best part, the balloon from the cop "What the hell is that!!"
All your videos are great RJ. Doesn´t matter what side or if it´s on top or the chin.
Lets do this simply, vote for the ones you like under here :D
aumenarys Chin
aumenarys top
aumenarys left
aumenarys right
aumenarys I voted for them all...
Chin or left. Chin gives a really good perspective, riders point of view, and it's leveled well. But I also like left because that's how you've done it in the past and like you said it's a nice accent to add the helmet.
The contour footage seems choppy, is it 60 fps? Can it even record 60fps?
Jeff Noël Not at 1080p
RoyalJordanian That explains it then. Thank you :)
It just doesn't have good image stabilization
thus nothing, and no one escapes the RJ eyes, very cool vision and image quality.
Chin mount is my personal favourite, I feel it gives the best POV and it doesn't drag in the wind.
I still like left the most. I like to see your helmet too.
Chin seems to be the best option for a couple of reasons:
1) it's central so it gives us a better feel of what you are doing and makes it easier to see where people are looking.
2) Top seems to be so far away from your point of view that it's a worse reference for us compared to the other options.
3) Just looking neat :D
I like the chin view
I really like the chin camera position but the left side is just as good. If you aimed the right camera a little higher because it is too low it will be just as good as the left one.
Left or chin
I actually liked left position. That's what you always had and it works. Not going to comment on what camera I like better.
Chin
Yep... chin!
Chin is pretty good with the 4, but like your normal view, with left with the 3+ just as much. Nice test!
GoPro 4 Black - Chin
Bet you got even more looks than usual! I don't have a camera at the moment but think I like the position you normally use, good view plus a sliver of helmet for perspective
CHİN!!!
Hey RJ, as you ride on the left side over where you are I prefer the go pro on the left side. It feels more natural as you move with traffic.
Thank you for this
Left is the best, really.
The position on the left is still the best one, because it gives you the feeling to sit right behind RJ on the bike.
Definitly chin.
Hi R.J. The chin mounted camera gives a far better perspective of your ride ,especially during filtering etc. Please go for that position in future as I feel as I am on the bike with you as opposed to being merely a spectator. Cheers!
I prefer the chin ;)
Definitely Chin. Nice centred view. Closer view towards the cars and you can also see a good part of the bike. Second best would be the left view. Probably because we can see a part of the helmet. Nice research!
Chin.
I like the Chin mount myself for a GoPro. If I didn't have a flip open touring helmet, I would have a GoPro chin mounted. Instead I have the Drift on the right side of the helmet. Which is the view I like second best in this video behind the chin mount.
I loved the reactions that you got in these two videos. :-)
Left.
I hope you continue with left side. It's nice seeing a bit of the helmet.
chin fosho
For your videos RJ i prefer Chin or left mounted camera, i think they give more perspective for the viewer, they show your speed gauge aswell as the road ahead and more surroundings, The top removed alot of the view of your bike and speed and the right view is pointed to far down and you cant see whats ahead of you. Thank you for this video i wish more Moto video makers listened to our feed back like this.
Same as the others. Got used to the left one, that makes it like we're riding with you but the chin one gives a nice POV.
Such a cool idea bro! And that black building on the right at 1:38. What was that? It looked awesome! Ugh, that skyline though!!!
Good video and its actually helped me decide between the positions of I was thinking of mounting my Garmin virb on my helmet.
Also a thought I had, should one consider wishing to change the mounting points occasionally for whatever reason, why not buy an extra attachment thus leaving more than 1 mounting option on the helmet to suit you at the time.
Left partition works great when you need to capture images reflected in the left mirror, say, traffic coming from behind, and you want to have record if needed. Chin gives me the impression it interferes with the air flow coming through the site vent.
This makes me smile. :) Good to see people laugh for once. I thought the difference in quality between the Contour and the GoPros was staggering, quite a difference!
I love the chin mount because it gives us a nice centered view of almost exactly what you see.
Very good RJ thanks for doing it!! I think the better view is left and chin. :)
Chin for sure! I love the way it looks like im actually there riding myself. Although the left side feels more personal with the helmet on the side.
Nice to get a good camera comparison, the hero4 seems to have the most detail, but prefer the colour of the 3+ Black Edition. Good stuff!
Hero 4 chin strap and the top of your helmet was pretty good to my view. Keep doing amazing videos
I think two of them are pretty good :
- Top to see the trafic, filtering view etc... It helps visualize where you are on the road, the space between you and the other cars...
- Left, because we are used to that and given the aim, it helps to see what you see when you interact with the rest of the world.
My 2 cents
Left is by far the best, specially with a Go Pro but the Chin mount is a close second due to it giving a nice clear view of things for people watching but I know its not as nice for the rider. It might also depend where you live because Left to me is on the same side of the road I ride on so it catches the best views of cars around me.
any camera on RJ's helmet is cool no matter where u put it ^____^
Each mount has its pros and cons, but in the end, I'm voting for chin view, because it feels more accurate as first person view and has less drawbacks from what I see here.
Top view, being centered as well, is nice, and offers a wider view of your surroundings, but feels like driving a bus, and also prevents from seeing very far up front. This is a nice point of view for circling around thing or seeing things on the sides, and may be nice in filtering situations. But I don't feel that for interacting with people or regular / fast driving. It would probably be better if you could mount it where the Schuberth sticker is, but I doubt you could safely and practically mount it there, unfortunately.
Side views are a nice balance between top and chin mounts advantages, but only for one side at the expense of the other : you may miss things on your right if you mount it to the left, which is problematic.
i like the positions on the left, with a little bit of helmet on camera as well, and the chin. on top the bike looks far away and is a bit up high. the lower positions look like they go faster as well, the top looks a bit slower, because of the height of the camera.
I think chin is the best place because we can also see exact the as you do RJ
Keep doing your work, you're awesome✌️
Yeah chin is the best view. I liked the colors of the left cam though. So possibly you could use the left cam at chin position?
Lookin forward to the RJmaps app, when will it be available?
personally, i'd say either the left side or the chin mount, I like them both.
Awesome video as usual sir.
Chin position is what i like the best view, but then with the hero 3+ camera.
But what is your experience RJ, can imagine the extreme weight of your helmet.
Which cameraposition is bothering you, in the end, its all on your head!
I prefer the FPV of the chin-mount, but the left side with a bit of the helmet on it is quite cool, too.
One thing I noticed was that the chin-cam was less stable than the side-mount.
Any ideas why that might be?
Thanks for riding around looking like an idiot to help us pick our mounting points :)
I'm so use to see you with the GoPro 3+ - Left that i'd say that is the best view, but considering that the GoPro 3 black - top gets a wider and better view i'll go for that one
I'd go with either GoPro 3's they're really good quality and seem to run nicely in 60fps.
I like the left or right side mostly since it's nice to have the helmet as a reference. Chin isn't bad as well though.
GoPro 3+ Black - Left looks best in my opinion. Like you said, it's a great reference point for us viewers.
RoyalJordanian The Chin mount seems better, better view in the front, good traffic visibility and the "dash" is also in good range . The Left is standard, used to that but i also like the top view as much.. so Chin 75% and Left/top 25% :)
Sir the google street view still cracks me up! Awesome video!! I'm partial to the chin mount and the left side myself.
I feel like the chin view gives the best POV image. After that I like the right view, but the Contour was aimed way to low this time. I see most people going with left, is that because they're used to driving on the left? I'm from the Netherlands, so when I'm riding shotgun the right-side view gives the most similair position, but I can imagine the left-side view does the same for British riders and drivers.
Preferences from me:
1) Chin
2) Left
3) Right
4) Top
Chin is like a POV which looks awesome and Left is what im used to watching with you so i dont mind if u dont change it haha
The left looks great for me mainly because your helmet is in view and it feels like I'm a passenger looking over your shoulder. This aspect engages the viewer more even if they don't realize it themselves.
That street view line got me good. I was laughing so hard
Out of all comments so far
"Chin" has been said - 732 times
"Left" said - 476 times
Cant get accurate results on top and right as people are saying they are bad...
Like this so RJ see's it!!
I like the chin mount best, but left comes in an easy second. Since I live state side, the if the camera is on the left, you could see oncoming traffic. But since you guys drive on the correct side of the road (I love the idea of the driver side is the right side), the right side might be more appropriate, but aim the right cam the way the left cam was.
Chin first, then either side. On top removes the viewer too far from the bike's cockpit for my liking, but still isn't bad. All cameras have great picture quality, but I liked the 60fps of the GoPros and the colour balance of the 4 and 3+. Cool video. I hope you didn't end up with a kink in your neck after this!
Left side or chin. The one on top was the worst, I think.
By the way, I was wondering if the footage you usually upload has been software corrected for contrast, colour saturation, brightness, etc. 'cause the colours on your videos look very nice and natural, specially if I compare them with the footage I get from my Hero HD.
Cheers!
It's like sitting in a security room with the 4 different screens :O
Left is best RJ! Right just looks weird and the top and chin just look meh. Stick with the current set-up as it works well :)
Chin is the best one, awesome view from driving
The Contour+ is aimed to far down and could use some tweaking. If you aime it like the Hero3+ at the left side, it's both a nice angle to look at. The chin is great aswell, as expected. Didn't really like the top helmet mount though
CHIN for the Win; gives the viewer a true rider perspective.
Hi from France
The top is the best into the city, but i prefer chin with a wider angle if it's possible.
Keep riding safe !
Chin is ideal.
Btw, is it just me or does the Hero 3 Black & 3+ seem superior to the 4 as far as color/tone/white balance?
The chin and left cam both look good!
I like the angle of the chin cam, but I worry about what would happen if you were in an accident. Somehow I feel like the stalk-mounted gopro on the left or right would snap off in an accident reducing the likelihood of it getting between you and something hard. Michael Schumacher's head injury was caused by a helmet cam not coming away, and he was skiing at much lower speeds than you ride.
Left and Top for the win :)
Nicely done RJ
Thumbs up
What a awesome sound! stay with the chin and the top mount.
The position and quality of the chin cam is my favourite :)
Chin, though it would've been more fair to use the same camera on the angles.
Nobody will ever choose right side because the video from the Contour sucks ass.
DoubleYouPee Just for your name
DoubleYouPee how does it suck ass...it seems more clear.
I like the chin cam, better FOV and I can see what's in your mirrors. Cheers and keep up the great vids.
I think the chin is the best place to mount your gopro camera. The best view to get the center of your motorcycle dunno this is my preference, it doesn't matter actually i like your videos anyway RJ!
Not a fan of the top mount even though you can see everything. I put mine on the side too. but the center chin mount looks the best. I want that gopro 4!
