- Learn the 5 principles for learning a language effectively using flashcards.
Principles:
1. Focus on high-frequency words
2. Each flashcard should have a sentence with a new word
3. Recall, don't recognize
4. Study your flashcards every single day
5. Pace yourself or you'll burn out
You speak better English than me and I’m a native.
Ohh, hahaha
Joke 🤣🤣🤣
How the hell do you speak so WELL!!!! (I'm a native English speaker) You give me so much inspiration for learning a new language. Your pronunciation and fluency is perfect... just HOW!?
Holy shit I've been doing 87 Flashcards a day and it's really burning me out, I'm so greatful for your video, now I can heavily reduce the load. I was getting demotivated and questioning my ability which made me even more set on proving I could do it.
Thanks for releasing me from this Pit.
I'm glad! I've been there multiple times.
@@loistalagrand 10 feels do-able quite quickly, how long do I need to keep up with the repetition before moving on?
For me, the best way to learn a new piece of vocabulary is to write it down in my notebook with its definition, and then I make some sentences using that particular word. It has worked for me in an amazing way.
sometimes I have troubles with making interesting sentences with new memorized words. Recently I have discovered chat GPT and it helps me a lot. I can choose from multiple options suggested to me the best one for me.
This is a good video, very knowledgeable. This guy needs to be given a reward.
Like a medal
Amazing video. I liked your channel, I found your channel accidentally and so glad to be here cause there are numerous knowledgeable videos😊
BRILLIANT had to subscribe. Thank you for this. Will be watching quiet a few more times.
Interesting as usual.
Using sentence flashcards with one new word at a time sounds a bit like what a Clozemaster does
I suppose
Brilliant and underrated. Thank you 😊
Amazing video, thank you !
Solid video, good advice, ⚓👍
Translate your language to foreign is something I have never heard. It makes sense. The harder process is more work and more results,
Yes, that's called "recall" and it's a very efficient way of studying things.
Wow, I thought you were a native English speaker. Great video.
Thanks:
It's amazing if you are going to make a flas card aplicación. Thanks
❤ your English
Did you ever make the app? What you described sounds pretty similar to the "reword" app
Excellent , merci
De rien
I can't believe that your first language is French. Only if you live in Canada in a bilingual area.
Would have really been great had you made a list of apps to use and a list of the 1st 2nd 3rd list of the 500 most common words. In english would have been good as there will never be a premade app for Albanian. I have been here for yrs. I can make sentences but most of the time they talk, i dont understand them.
Where would you suggest to search for those 2000 most popular words in language (German in my case)? Also maybe there are some ready flashcard sets containing most popular words and phrases?
There are plenty of free premade decks here: ankiweb.net/shared/decks/
Tq very much, it's really helpfull
Glad it was helpful!
Good common sense rules.
Hi Lois Talagrand, i admire your work a lot. Could you please make a video on how to remember characters in languages like Japanese, Chinese....? I recently learned Chinese but the character was a huge challenge for me to remember.
I'll think about it.
Thank you
You're welcome
gracias por el video, esperamos la app para poder usarla.
Gracias
Do you know where we can get sentences with the most common words in different languages?
There are plenty of free premade decks here: ankiweb.net/shared/decks/
how many years have you studyed english to become so fluent?
from japan
shito
Did u make a flash card app
It's on my to do list
@@loistalagrand 1 year later)) Did u make? 😊
I've been using flashcards in the wrong way though. I put the sentence in the language that I'm learning in the front, and the transition in the back. Should I throw away all of my flashcards? I have 7 months of them. :(
It works great that way in the beginning stages. After hitting intermediate you can start to translate into your target language. It's beneficial to be translate bidirectionally. Good luck!
Simply study them back to front.
alors vous parlez français, c'est bien, et vous venez de quelle région?
I get your points but what should i do when im starting learning a language and don't even know a single word so i can't make a sentence with only 1 new word because i don't know any other words
try to learn some other basic words to write basic sentences on your own, and then work from there
Focus on one word per sentence.
@@loistalagrandCan you give a more detailed answer?
I didn't get it.
I would find reviewing flashcards for retention too boring. I think I'd rather read through a long list of words, dive into more immersive activities and maybe review the list only a month later
It's true that most people find flashards boring. My advice would be to still use flashcards, but make it a small part of your learning.
@@loistalagrand I guess so. If I keep reading and listening during the time I would have spent reviewing too many flashcards I think I would encounter some words from the cards and make learning more fun. Flashcards on the other hand could help me keep memory of a larger vocabulary of words that are uncommon. I'd still need time to practice by using techniques like shadowing dialogues, talking, etc
1.25x speed is perfect. ...thank me later
