This thing is not impressive for the price.
Honestly, the video shot with it here, was a hot mess of over-ISO, over-sharpening and odd exposure.
You basically have the choice between noisy and smudgy.
The best thing going for it is the USB-C connection and long cable.
For the same price, you could get the Dell Ultrasharp Webcam which gives you 4K at 30 frames and HDR in a unit with quality glass, and the auto exposure and ISO settings are simply more realistic out of the box, to say nothing of the face tracking which some users will appreciate.
For a 1080 60 frame camera your better off with a Logitech StreamCam for $140 that works perfectly well and has the added bonus of image stabilisation as well as being able to be physically rotated to portrait mode for UA-cam short use, without significant post edit work.
Personally I will wait until Elgato come up with a V.2 or V.3, to see if they upgrade it to where their own competition already is. This thing just isnt up to snuff considering the price.

Thanks for your detailed and obviously well informed insight. As I said a couple of times in the review, don't mark it down because I can't work a camera properly. Probably the only time I got close to getting the lighting and settings mating up right when I was recording was when I was filming my cats 😅 The bit at the end for instance I'd set up with some backlighting, then forgot to turn it on when filming 🙄 Probably doesn't help that I was setting it up on a 10year old TFT either 😂 I get what you're saying though, they're not going to come into a new corner of the market and immediately be a market leader with their first effort, the price probably more reflecting "brand worth". Even in my short time with it there was a firmware update and 2 software updates to pull it into line, but I don't think there's anything they could do to make up for complete lack of skill behind the camera. Or should that be in front?

Viewing its over UA-cam’s shitty compression might not show it in the best light, even if the original video was uploaded beautifully.

Thanks a bunch for the review
I think elgato priced it well
H*ck of course when they use a 18mm APS-C equivalent, on a sony sensor for good AF, it will track it well
    Tho as A5000 owner (alright i use a 12mm F2 AF lense)
I miss the bokeh a bit and find it sad that Aperture is fixed
They could have get it back
ISO wise, sub 200 is always good, but if F-stop was free (which has to have support), then i'd be better than Sony x Elgato's resolve
Yet nevertheless, for the price it's fine
    An a5000 with stock 18-35mm >F3.5 Aperture, retails "used" for 200 USD/150€
    This . . . is easier :)
I'm fine with the price and with the software
All looks like a mini sony cam, soo good job Elgato
They should add a virtual bokeh effect, when the sensor supports DMF depth of field focus
Overall, surprisingly good job with the white balance
Heh good job sony, as always 😋

I think as the software and their line-up evolves evolves, you might see advanced options like a fake bokeh effect, you can do it on my pixel 5 in portrait mode, but only for pictures. Would probably have to be offloaded to the CPU for real-time video. Advanced features like a changeable aperture are going to increase cost and weight to implement properly, and probably not worth it. Samsung abandoned variable aperture in it's galaxy phones pretty quickly.
One thing I forgot to mention in the review is that it does an excellent job of keeping most if not all of the shot in good focus, on my A6300 with the stock 18-55mm lens there's quite a bit of blur outside the centre in video mode.
It's honestly a better camera that my footage shows. I should really take a course and learn how to do this properly. lol

Thanks 😄 It's amazing what hanging a couple of sheets will do. That and not ordering fried chicken at 10.30 on a Sunday night 🤢 🤣
