Our Abba. For many of us our childhood's fairytale. That was worldwide hit and no1 in Australia for 14 weeks selling more that 10 million copies in total.
No matter if the critics were slagging them off at the time, lots of famous rockers/hard rockers acted without 'pop prejudice 'and did an exception for Abba's pure hand-made pop majesty even back then, many of whom admitted their Abba love far later on.
Absolutely love Abba, definitely part of my childhood growing up. Even as a metal fan, in my home, there was always Abba, The Shadows, Tina Turner, and more such simpler fun times.
so happy to see you with reactions to ABBA songs (I think is the first time) "Fernando" (1976) is a soft ballad, so nice and beautiful The best is the beauty of their vocal harmonies, very soft at the whisper level but at a level of perfection, that explodes in a magic chorus ABBA had already recorded "Dancing Queen" and it came from the success of "Mamma Mía" It was the manager who convinced them to record "Fernando" so as not to repeat the style (Frida had done it before in 1975 on her solo album in Swedish and it was a success, but with lyrics of a lovesong, and these to ABBA is a friendship story about mexican soldiers) The manager was right and everything was a success, one after another in that year 1976, with three singles #1 consecutives in UK Mamma Mía (2 weeks) Fernando (4 weeks) Dancing Queen (6 weeks) In addition, this variety of options had different results in each country. "Fernando" was a colossal success in Australia (14 weeks at #1 surpassed the "Hey Jude" mark) and 7 weeks at #1 in Germany "Dancing Queen" was 14 weeks #1 in Sweden and 6 weeks #1 in the U.K.and 8 weeks #1 in Australia Both were #1 in the U.S. but in various rankings: "Dancing Queen" on the Billboard and "Fernando" on Adult Contemporary The official video of "Fernando" was filmed in February 1976, with Dancing Queen the next day in these Official Video you could see: Bjorn & Benny, both in guitars Frida & Agnetha confronted both in frontal and profile images (repeating "Mamma Mia" technique used) premiering her gypsy style dress and a last comparation "Fernando" (1976) is first ABBA single with Frida in lead voice, and recorded in her solo album in Swedish (released before ABBA) as "S.O.S." (1975) is first ABBA single with Agnetha in lead voice, and recorded in her solo album in Swedish (released after ABBA) For a next reaction, my suggestion is "S.O.S." (1975), another banger and second worldwide hit to ABBA Thanks so much for these video and reaction I wish you a great weekend See you in the next My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America
I still remember hearing this on Cowntdown, in Australia. It was there for a record time and so they decided to play a future pick for number one rather than Fernando again. There were so many complaints that they apologized and never did that again. A great song. Look into ABBA. Australia fell in love with them early. Abba won Eurovision in 1974 and from there they came to the attention of the world. Big ABBA Fan here.
Oh yes, I remember that! I was far too cool for Abba at the time, but I love them now. It was a pretty boring Sunday night hearing Fernando AGAIN for the umpteenth time though hahaha
I believe this is still the highest selling single in Australia (14 weeks number 1).... Now, they've sold over 400 million albums worldwide, stage musical and two amazing movies. So talented!
To this very day, I still ADORE this magnificent, beautiful song. It was the longest running number one song here in Australia in 1976.. 14-15 consecutive weeks.. LOVE ABBA and love Frida 🙏❤🇦🇺
Fernando a worldwide hit in 1976. You should react to their next huge hits following this one : Dancing Queen, Knowing Me Knowing You, and Take A Chance On Me
ABBA the most talented group ever, loved them since the early 70's, and have never tired of listening to them, their music is timeless, and they released a new Album after 40 years, and they still have it even though they are all in their mid 70's now
I so wish that was true. However, the Beatles also had several hits that could be described as "pop" (since it's short for "popular"), so I'm afraid ABBA are runner-up to them even in that category. However, if we're talking GOAT from a non-English speaking country... They get that title hands down!
@@peteg2410 Beatles was fantastic, I’ve been at their museum in Liverpool and they were a great inspiration for the music of ABBA aswell. As I see it ABBA took the music to next level in many ways in a simular way as The Beatles did a decade before, with creativity and open mind, versatality. Both bands amazing!
I was just a little girl when mum took me to get my first ABBA record only 3 years old. Mum has been gone 10 years now but ABBA songs always make me feel like she's there with me again
Oh man love me some ABBA! Not sure how much you know about them. They are 2 married couples from Sweden. The name ABBA comes from their first initials, Agnetha the blonde girl, her husband Bjorn the one whose hair you like lol. Ani-Frid aka Frida or Annie the auburn haired girl and her husband Benny the one with the beard. Both the girls had fantastic voices and took turns on lead but when they harmonized together, there was nothing like it! It's often called ABBAs third voice. To say they were big in the 70s and 80s is an understatement. They have sold over 400 million records. Only the Beatles have sold more. Try some of their other big hits, Super Trouper, Name Of The Game, Mamma Mia
"Song Of The Year" for 1976, in Portugal. That might not seem unusual, except for the fact that this distinction was never given to "foreign" artists.............but an exception was made in this case for ABBA...........since the name "Fernando" resonates so well with the people of the Iberian Peninsula. Recorded in Swedish for Frida's solo album "Frida Ensam" (1975) Recorded in Spanish for ABBA's album "Gracias Por La Musica" (1980) Nº1 in many European territories............selling millions and millions of singles (vinyl/45's)
Hi, there!... great react👌 Very energetic and with a good analysis too... well done! 🅰️🅱️🅱️🅰️👑..... the BEST ⭐ POP ⭐ MUSIC ⭐ EVER. This is just one of many successes.... great voices and greatest harmonies from those girls, 🅰️Agnetha & 🅰️Anni-Frid ('Frida'), great songs composed by those guys, 🅱️Björn & 🅱️Benny. Please more 🙏 Greetings ❤ from Chile 🇨🇱👍
Great video. This is one of my three favorite songs of the '70 (Dancing Queen and Rhiannon being my other two). I think this is ABBA's most beautiful melody, and I also think it's their "warmest" song, as you rightly point out. The theme of undying friendship is enhanced by the mesmerizing opening (military drums and gorgeous flutes) which envelops and instantly draws the listener into the world of the song. This is, quite simply, one of the most beautifully produced records I've ever heard. You just can't top ABBA when they're at the top of their game (as they are here).
I am so happy to see Anna-Frid (Frida) get a lead singing role that was a hit! After ABBA Frida married a honest to God Bavarian Prince, Heinrich Ruzzo Reus of House Plauen which made Frida; "Princess Anna-Frid Reuss, Countess of House Plauen" a title that she still holds today but does not use. Her husband died from cancer so Frida retains her title. Classy woman!
Frida was also married to Benny. The man in the video with the beard. She also did many other leads on ABBA big hits, "Super Trouper" "Money Money Money" "One Man One Woman" "When All Is Said And Done" "Knowing Me And Knowing You"
Not in my top ten ABBA songs and maybe I don't appreciate it enough. Like 'Dancing Queen' and 'Mamma Mia' I probably think it gets overplayed so I unfairly overlook their brilliance. Saying that, I've seen the 'Voyage' concerts a number of times and this song still gets to me. I think it's because it's pure nostalgia and memories of friends long ago. 14 weeks as Australia's #1 at a time when people actually went to the shop to buy records.

The singing in the first verse is so iconic. So many amazing nuances and details in such a short time, and then after that the harmonies kick in, wow!
Absolutely love Abba, definitely part of my childhood growing up. Even as a metal fan, in my home, there was always Abba, The Shadows, Tina Turner, and more such simpler fun times.

Beautiful harmony as always from Frida and Agnetha. Perfect diction. No screaming match to out sing each other like often happens today.

Love ABBA!!!
Me and my sister played "ABBA"...we fought over who would be Frida or Agnetha..

14 weeks at Number One in Australia - they did everything right.

Frida’s lead songs actually spent way more weeks at number 1 at least in Australia
I was in there fan club in the 70s- 80s Heaven 😇
Thx, But reacted to the rock songs of abba, "hole in your soul" or "hey hey helen" in particular, please
Gracias a la serie de television Malcolm pude conocer escuchar por primera vez a fondo ABBA, de ahi me puse a escuchar otros exitazos

When are you going to finish War of the Worlds? You stopped halfway through like you thought it was over!
What have you done with Dolly…?
Kitsch 😂
Watching this reaction i can tell you really dont pay attention to the lyrics at all.
