Ta-DaAAAaaAa, lol. I've always wanted to try to decorate a gingerbread house/cake like this so I finally pushed myself to do it (dressed as a hobbit because why NAHT). The inside of this isn't very good but heeeeeeeey thas ok.

Me: mmm, this looks weirdly bright
Rachel: takes out brown coloring and starts w e a t h e r i n g
Me: ah, yes
Hahahahaha❤️❤️❤️
W E A T H E R I N G
Samwise Gamgee, on the top of Orodruin: I wonder what's Rosie is doing right now
Rosie, in Shire:
She does remind me of Rosie!
She looks so much like her!
Me, a seasoned baker, the second she plopped the butter and sugar into the dry ingredients: oh....oh no....
Ah well 😂😂 ya live and ya learn
And the eggs! 😟
I conquer!😉😁👍
@@rachelmaksy Lol Rachel! Also a baker and I was like, no way, has she really NEVER baked? But that moment was super authentic, like, she ain't lyin! It looked fab in the end as always.
It can still turn out ok doing it that way, right? I dunno, I don’t bake 😂😂😂
For someone who has never baked before this, this is quite impressive,,,-
The cake was definitely dry but whaaaatevs 😂😂😂😂
Rachel Maksy You just over cooked that a little bit, it happens but it’s definitely an easy fix, just cheat by serving the cake with a glass of milk 👀💖
It indeed looked a little over baked. You can follow recipes, but you have to learn how your oven affects each recipe. It takes trial and error and no recipe can teach you how your oven works, cuz every oven is different 😁 That's why I hate baking in ovens I don't know hahaha
For someone who has baked before (a lot actually :D) this is still quite impressive!
I swear every video starts off with “we are doing something a little bit different today” 😂😂😂
Keeping ya ON YA TOES
And every video... We do 😘
That's why we love her. Keeping it *fresh* 'n funky.
Highest quality video you’ve made yet wow
^^ But this is, why we have fun here!
We love Hobbit Rachel Content ™️.
Heehee❤️❤️
@@rachelmaksy you should make more. hobbit content ... If possible .. .. .. .. also I absolutely love your outfit in this 🤎🧝🧙
I love the little laugh Rachel does after she makes a joke.
Cypress Willow same
Add to the list of: Things I Don't Realize I Do Until I'm Editing 😂😂😂
She makes me giggle.
For someone who has never baked or decorated a cake before, you did a terrific job.
Thank you so much!!!
If this isn't the cutest video made in 2019, then I don't know what is
🙈🙈🙈❤️❤️❤️
rachel : i've never baked in my life
also rachel : *makes the cutest hobbit gingerbread house ever*
baking hack, straight from my grandma: use your measuring cup to pour the oil before the molasses. or just grease your measuring cup
I came here to say the same thing 😄
That’s brilliant-
I know this is a year old but seriously thank youuuu
I discovered that by accident and I now try remember to measure the oil before any sticky liquid. Grandma's are amazing. 😍
Smort
Holy Guac! that turned out amazing!
My little sister, Isabelle, watches your videos a lot.
And you have inspired her, you are the reason she got so into drawing.
So as her older sister, I wanna say thank you!💜
You are also the reason she is obsessed with copic markers!
Hi!
Wow you watch everything I watch!
Love your art btw
oh hecc hey waffles
"I'm gonna make a mess!" *loud rattling noise*
*Insert tiny shame bell here.*
*notices Rachel doesn’t cream together the wet ingredients*
*cries in baker*
same
I did, too. But then she pulled out the mixer, and I thought "Ahhh, yesss, use the Force."
"I honestly never baked anything"
Oh boy, this is going to be fun
Hahahaha it's so COMPLICATED
I love how some of us are shocked it turned out so gorgeous and the rest of us are like "well, its Rachel."
frodo stop farting and scaring yourself 😂
this is the quality content i signed up for
😂😂😂😂❤️❤️
😃 Yes! Why was *that* never in “The Lord of the Rings?
@@Idaemily20 Beats me, gotta phone Peter Jackson tomorrow. He missed out on a quality opportunity! 😂
Words to live by.
Yaassss! That is one of the funniest out-of-context-sentences! Also, it became an inside-joke I have with myself and when my friends and I had a LotR marathon the other day, I quoted it... I forgot they all do not know the quote...
Whoopsie-doodles...
Anyways, yap. Quality content!
Okay, I'm pretty sick at the moment so that might be messing with me, but that tiny pumpkin legitimately made me tear up.
Awww
The 3 dislikes are Sauron Saruman and Gollum
...and now the Ring Wraiths.
EXCUSE ME DO NOT DRAG SAURON INTO THIS
My guinea pug is called Sauron........
Lol
Rachel: "hello."
Google: *"hey, what can i do for you"*
rachel: ?¿??¿¿?¿?¿¿¿??¿?
The reason to mix the "wet" ingredients separately from the dry to start and why sugar is included in the "wet" ingredients- is to help the sugars to start dissolving in the eggs, butter, and any other liquids before adding to the dry ingredients - It will help everything incorporate better.
This is exactly how I imagine a hobbit baking to be XD
Hehehehe
Your adorable chaotic cooking is everything I've ever needed in my life.
EDIT:::: PLEASE I BEG YOU BEAUTIFUL CREATURE START MAKING VINTAGE RECIPES. PLEEEASE.
There are three “types” in the food world:
1) Cooks-these people are perfectly capable of following recipes, but like to get creative. “I wonder what would happen if I put ________ in, instead” is often heard in their kitchen.
Produce: soups, stews, casseroles, panini, roasted meats (to name a few)
2) Bakers-these people have the precision necessary for handling recipes that call for exactitude due to the chemical/physical nature of their creations. They have a deep appreciation for the difference between baking powder and baking soda. They always mix dry ingredients, then wet ingredients before combining the two.
Produce: tea breads, scones, cookies, cakes
3) Makers of consistently excellent pastry-actually a subset of Bakers, these people are freaks of nature. Don’t even try to understand them.
Produce: Eat soap, Karen! Nobody CARES about your tender crust OR light-as-a-cloud puff pastry!!!
This should be top comment-
"Frodo's stop farting and scaring yourself" 🤣
I briefly forgot her dogs name is Frodo, and lemme say... Most hilarious seconds of my life xD
@@Geeky.rainbow.vampireat first I thought "did she say what I thought she said?" And I had to rewind and listen again. Definitely a good giggle🤣
Add 8oz of apple sauce to keep the cake moist, it has no taste and it’s heather than mayo.
I made the same gingerbread cake for Christmas using apple sauce and it came out great. :) keep it up
In Norway we add sour cream, and it's amazing! Try it, try it!
Why would you add mayo to a sweet cake? That seems like a very odd option.
I think her cake was a bit over cooked too, hence the dryness 😅
Jasmijn mayonnaise is essentially just an emulsion of egg and fat, the latter of which leads to moistness in cakes
@@bao-anhnguyen8335 yeah, but also mustard and lemon and vinegar. At least, that's how I make mayonaise. And I don't usually put mustard in my cakes.
This is like the irresponsible drunk hobbit version of a Tudor living history chef at a historic site. But it came together at the end! How?! The ickle pumpkin is the best part, though.
Oh my gosh Rachel, I love how you jump in to projects wholeheartedly and troubleshoot along the way. I feel like gingerbread cake and cookies have deceptively easy recipes, but actually are easy to dry out and even burn. The hobbit house actually looks great. I laughed so hard in the outtakes. I always look forward to all your videos. Keep up the great work!
when I first watched LOTR with my husbands I told him the hobbits reminded me of Italians - we are short; always eating; have huge families; love to eat and party (1st breakfast; 2nd breakfast, etc) We're short - some of us do have hairy feet - muhahahahahaha I love this! You're a ball of fun!
why did i never think of this? i am hobbit.... hobbit is me.....
5:35 as my dad likes to say, “you’re being slower than molasses in January” 😂😂
That's all I could on my head, my dad's voice saying the same thing!
4:53 is like reverse asmr it’s perfect
I've baked a bit more than you have but cake decorating beyond frosting and sprinkles scares me! You did a marvelous job!
If I could have two patronuses, it would be you and Christine McConnell. My goodness, you look so stinking cute as a hobbit.
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️
I've just started watching your videos the past couple of weeks. It really inspires me to see you trying new things that you're either new to or still learning. I love this video!! You're the best 🥰🖖
We love Christine!! I was so sad when Netflix didn’t renew her for another season. Rose was the true star of the show, though.
SAME 😭😭
Shannon Mercer-Diemont ugh why didn’t they!!??? God the talent in the Lady!!!!
Akaiyah but we have to wait monthly for a new video 😭😭😭😭😭
DaniRossi she is a genius! Rachel should be ringing the shame bell for the decision of not renewing Christine. SHAME, ding-a-ling-ling, SHAME!
lol in the beginning I was like "Oh-no" then it totally came together. Now I wanna make one. it came out so good!
Did you just.... weather a cake.... I love you 😭💕
HellYESS 😂😂😂
Rachel: I suck at this and have never baked anything in my life
Cake: *is gorgeous and looks exactly like a textured and lived in hobbit hole*
Rachel, one question...
how the FRICK did you pull that off
No idea honestly 😂😂😂😂😂
*tiny shame bell* MAGIC!
This was a very ambitious project for someone with little baking experience! Respect for your efforts!!!
The true hobbit holiday content we need in our large sized lives rn❤️
Btw loving the cooking vid, it would be neat to see u do this again☺️
❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗
Mrs Crocombe says you can improve any pudding with ‘Wine Sauce’ Hell Yeah! 😁❤️
ClockworkFaery literally the last video I watched 😂
Miss.PegasaurusRex Me too 😁
From the English Heritage channel! I swear I just watched the brown bread pudding video right before this one too!!!! 🙋🏻♀️
This turned out so pretty!! The painting really took it to the next level! My mom and I are amateur novelty cake decorators, and for my last birthday we recreated Bag End out of Rice Krispie treats and fondant. Definitely so much harder than it looks on the baking shows, and it took us an entire LotR marathon to get it done haha
Hahaha omg cute! And EXACTLY this took me all frickin day 😂😂😂😂
Oh my god 10 seconds in and she looks SO good with that hair, that vest, those ears, that backdrop...perfection
I'm not gonna lie I saw the first bit with just the fondant and I thought it was irredeemable and then u pulled it together and made a freaking amazing cake?? Could not be me you're amazing
LOTR lookbook?! I’d be so down
Remember to watch those ads all the way through folks!! We need Rachel to have money for more awesome cosplays!!
Not when they're longer than a minute!
That is one of the cutest cakes I've ever seen :')
Heehheee🌿🤗🤗🤗
As a avid home baker, I was super excited/nervous for you when the video started. I panicked a little when you just put the ingredients in all Willy nilly. I’ve never done anything like this and to see someone who doesn’t bake much do it is inspiring. Your creation was so adorable!!!
I definitely want to try it out now!!
To quote my boy Gimli, "It's charming, quite charming!" You honestly did a terrific job, especially considering you've never done this before! THAT LITTLE PUMPKIN!
"I'm gonna make a mess, yeah"
*ominous clattering noises*
I like how when faced by a skill you have never attempted before, you jump right in. that's what keeps us coming back.
Curious Creations is honestly one of my comfort shows. It's soo fun and soft 💕
This turned out amazingly!!
Patiently waiting for Hobbit Rachel to return as if she's left in real time...
That's such a beautiful hobbit hole!!! #T^T#*~
I love the realness of this video, and sharing the struggles. It’s definitely a breath of fresh air in this day and age!
Yes. I love Christine McConnell. I've never seen her on Netflix. I follow on UA-cam and recently Instagram. I can't wait for her to get another home and restore it. I know it will be brilliantly done over a number of years.
I love Christine so much! I’m glad to see other people appreciate her
You did a good job, the cake turned out really cute. 💜
Last time I used fondant I cursed it like 7 generations back and was very tempted to throw it on my wall... So no more fondant for me although I love baking 😂
Hahahaahhaha RELATABLE
I freaking love Christien mcconnal!!!!!!! Ahhh im making the spider cookies from her book next week
Tip for dry cakes: soak them with simple syrup or pour some type of sauce for it to absorb. You can also add jam between layers (make a border of frosting then fill with jam) to help with the dryness and make it more pleasant to eat!
YESSS! I am all about this hobbit lifestyle! ❤
Gingerbread bakers tip: Spray your measuring cup with Pam cooking spray before filling it with molasses. Works with honey too. Sticky stuff comes right out and you avoid having to make lame "slow as molasses" jokes in your head.🤣The cake came out really cute!
I made one of these for my brother’s birthday years ago! And my mum made a volcano erupting onto it... and objectively it definitely wasn’t the best hobbit house ever, but I was very proud of my glacier mint window
I need to stop watching your videos as I nurse my baby to sleep because when I chuckle at your jokes, she wakes up 🤔
Heehehehe
I accidentally got super high on a cbd/thc supplement last night, and while I spiraled into the worst trip of my life, I pleaded for my friends to put on your videos on for me 😆 Very comforting!
Christine also has a UA-cam channel! She recently did another gingerbread house on there. She posts about once a month, bc her diys are extravagant, but it's worth the wait!!
As someone who has done a few cakes in this style, my heart was with you the whole time. I was hoping desperately that I would work out, as I know the pain cake failure. It turned out really great, and I'm inspired to make my own hobbit hole!
something about you dressed as a hobbit and saying 'frodo stop farting and scaring yourself' absolutely destroyed me
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love how you bloop when adding ingredients.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who sound-effects their tasks 😅🙈
'That's the exciting part of watching me, the chance of imminent disaster.'
Never identified with a UA-camr's statement so much in my life tbh. lol
Ohhhhh, i missed Hobbit Rachel haha and I don't even like hobbits...
Hahaha my true forrrrm
When I saw this thumbnail on my notification I almost cried
Heehehee❤️
Rachel: I have never cooked anything in my entire life ! me (european) : but ... what do you eat ? 🧐
Next time freeze the cake and icing before carving and adding the fondant then you would have a much easier time carving and crumb coating, also I’d say if you’re making a cake more than two stories tall add cut skewers in the middle for support.
Please don’t take this wrong but you TRANSFORMED that!!! It’s amazing!! 🖤
Okay right so first of all I was already impressed when you called it a 'hot mess'! I don't know what is more aestetic than you dressed up as a cute Hobbit baking a Hobbit gingerbread house. Also the final effect was astonishing and please have more faith in yourself because you slayed it, it's amazing.
This is perfect timing I just started to get into lotr (read the hobbit a while ago, read the fellowship of the ring, watched the movie, told my dad every difference between the two, and started the two towers) and I loooooove it
Try baking bigger cookies separately from smaller cookies, they need to bake longer to avoid gooeyness, and you can use a cooling sheet like sandpaper to grate down cookies that are too large to be, say, a hobbit door. This turned out really well for a first attempt! Can’t wait to see what you’ll do in the future!
You did freaking amazing! Christine would be so proud!
🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️
Watching that feels exactly like watching an historical film placed in the england countryside...Soo cozy !
Looks great. I see a hobbit whole. I love Christine Mc Connell look how long it took her to make the Gingerbread Replica and she has done it before. I think any hobbit would be glad to live there.
Also a tip if you're portioning out a viscous ingredient you can spray your measuring cup/spoon with non-stick cooking spray. Less waste and easy clean up.
Just a tip for the molasses! If you want it to be easier to get out of the measuring cup, just spread a tiny bit of oil in it before putting the molasses in. The molasses will slip right out and you won’t have to wait for ages for it to drip out!
Oh snap that's good to know!!! Thank you!!
I am loving the whole aesthetic of this video with all the candles burning! So cozy and autumnal! Your fall content on Instagram and UA-cam has been awesome Rachel!
Christine has a UA-cam now as well! And as always her crafting skills are amazing! Love that your doing this cooking crafty time!
I LOVE Christine Mcconnell!!!! she’s effortlessly Amazing!
lol as someone who likes to bake but is not necessarily a baker I was so stressed watching you use canned frosting to frost the cake but I love the fact that you were able to save it with the painting!
I mean, even in 2023, this is still an ADORABLE Hobbit hole!
Thank you, Rachel!
Finally some good hecking food
Hearing Rachel sass Google brings joy to my heart.
This is the softest and cutest thing I’ve seen❤️
Rachel that cake is amazing! You did such a good job! whenever your cake is dry you can do a soak on it to moisten it again. A rum soak would have been good on this! You would just put rum and sugar in a pot and cook the alcohol out and then brush it over your cake! Trimming the top layer of cake crust off lets more of the soak in and distributes more evenly!
your videos are so cozy and comforting and inspiring!
I would rather watch you than all the fancy cake decorators out there! You have much more whimsey AND you show us that our mistakes can be made right. Like Bob Ross & his "happy little accidents". I would have given up & thrown it all away, but now I know how to salvage. Thank you so much!
Me when I get my WIFI back on after 24 hours & UA-cam suggestions shows me this from a year ago and I think how did I miss this? And today is gonna be a good day! 😄👍🏻 Keep making videos Rachel they make this old lady smile.
HRE (Hobbit Rachel Energy) is everything...I would love a Hobbit Rachel series
This has to be my favourite channel on UA-cam. Loving the mixture of cosplay, crafts and vintage.
I'm convinced Christine McConnell is some sort of demigod lol - This is great though! Id love a Hobbit style cake, I also want to get a Hobbit cookbook, there is an unofficial one which looks fun :)
Honestly though, the disaster crafting is relateable.
I’ve been binging your videos for a few months and can I say that you inspire me like crazy! I bought a sewing machine and patterns that you was use. Much appreciation for you
