  • Decided it was about time i got a scope so that i could see exactly what the output from various amplifiers looks like under different loads, and also to help set up customers cars. What a fantastic bit of kit! I used the SPL LAB NExt Lcd to measure Power from voltage and current, and used the scope to play until clipping. Awesome results from this amp!! I will be benching my old Technics amps shortly too, and the Inova PA amps!

    Wow it’s cool to see how much your knowledge and expertise has improved as a repair guy over the last 8 years. This gives me hope for myself as I am teaching myself as we speak!

    A mate has got a 1200w macrotech, and the thing is bulletproof. Has a lot of hammer at the weekends and runs cool all of the time.

    I will never understand the fascination. I've owned a bunch of the MA,s and yes, they are powerful. But bloody hell they sound rough. But hey, they were never built for music.

      Interesting, mine sound phenomenal compared to a variety of different amps. Their high damping factor, low THD and high s/n ratio make them pretty impressive in this power band.

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 7 років тому

      Phenomenal compared to what? I've worked with loads of them over the last many years, and they are incredibly rough and harsh compared to most other pro amps. They were the standard because they were dead reliable and ran almost anything, but they are not very good in terms of resolution and clarity. The specs don't tell a whole lot, it's only part of the equation. QSC amps spec incredibly well, but they sound very soft and horribly bland. There's a few ways of listing to what it can actually do, and can't do. Hook it up to a proper high grade pair of monitors or a really nice set of high end speakers and do an A/B test. Other thing to do is to simply compare it to other brands. Try a Lab, MC2 or an old Cloud CV. It's a completely different ballgame as far as sound quality goes. You have to remember that the basis for the Macrotech amps were in fact not audio use, but industrial applications such as shaker tables. That's one of the reasons why they work so well between the 5-20 hz band. There's a lot more to the story, but the nutcase overly religious family that ran Crown prior to the Harman takeover, were not very keen about the fact that their equipment were used for music, even much less so that it was the devils own Rock,'n'Roll. Those Crown guys were completely and utterly mad religious fanatics.
      A bit of trivia. The name and the logo is a symbol of Jesus' crown of thorns.

    Nice setup you've got there. You might get more power if you use thicker speaker cable. Btw I've got a 1mhz HP scope. It's lasted for years and I still use it to calibrate pirate radio rigs :)

    You know whats funny man, that crown expects their macrotech 1200i to do 4500 rms per channel with a 25 amp breaker over here in the states, like realistically you would need at least a 75 amp breaker at 120v to get that kinda juice no matter how efficient it is. Other amps on their line up have the same issues, as an example the newer crown xls series poweramps, specifically the xls2502 which is really sweet for the price, BUT it only has a 15amp iec connector on the back of it, 15amps at 120v equals 1800w, in order to get the 2500 it claimes, you need at least a 25amp breaker on it, its like they pull these numbers out of their ass.... i just find these things funny...

      No, this isn't advisable at all. Get a decent amp designed to run on mains power. :)

    • @djsndcx
      @djsndcx 8 років тому +1

      +MegaTronX6 As said many times, car amps aren't meant to be run from low current lines like in your house. It'd be much cheaper on your back and your worry to just get a mains powered amp ;).

    Hey guys. I need some advice. I need a good amp for my home sound system. It should cost not more than 250 euros. It will be used for my subs. Any help would be great!

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 7 років тому +1

      Here's a bit of advice. Don't buy one of these. Very powerful, but sounds like crap.
      If you want a cheap pro audio amp that sounds great, get a Cloud CV1000. The fan is a bit noisy, but one hell of an amp.

  • @MegaTronX6

    so what are you recommend me? i think to buy corsair 650w 50a psu it should run nice becouse old one is 27a but this is 50a ;D

    • @barevids
      @barevids  8 років тому +2

      Computer PSUs are are not ideal for running car amps, they need all rails to be loaded to be ballanced. For running subs indoors, buy a good PA amp. Trust me, I've done every different possibility and I now have 350a at 12.6v, and its a lot of hassle and not worth it, you don't get full power from the amp unless you have 14.5v.

    • @MegaTronX6
      @MegaTronX6 8 років тому

      +barevids yeah but pa amps are expensive but i understand you thats true:) , this pa amp looks good to run 2 kickers not 15" but 12" sorry that was mistake 300 wrms together and 600 peak --Yamaha P4500?

    • @djsndcx
      @djsndcx 8 років тому

      +MegaTronX6 If you'd want amps on one rail, commercial PSU's will just blow out. Barevids' Server PSU's do struggle quite a bit too. Like he recommended; A PA amp will save you both a headache, and money. (oh, and sound levels!)

    • @MegaTronX6
      @MegaTronX6 8 років тому

      +DJSNDCX oh thanks, you and barevid opened my eyes :) so yamaha p4500 seems good pa amp? becouse i can get it for 160 eur now

    • @MegaTronX6
      @MegaTronX6 8 років тому

      +barevids one more question ,suppoes that i cant get any pa amp or server psu,so what are you recommend if i can only buy psu should i need run 2 together or buy one but bigger?
