    I use to make grape wine in 5 gallon batches. So much work. I like how you use the half gallon bottles of juice with sugar and yeast. And yes, bread yeast works just fine. 👍

    I'm on my third gallon bubble'n right now and I am so glad I tried your simple recipe. Hell, I'm even going to give some as a birthday gift soon. This is bar none the easiest and quickest wine I've ever made, and its going to be my best hobby ever! I can have wine when I want and never have to pay a high price for good wine anytime. I'm even trying Welshe's Pineapple/Orange/Apple to see what sort of sweet wine I get. Thanks, Pawpaw, this is why I enjoy your channel, Doing It Cheap is more then just doing something inexpensive, its seeing how to do things with what I have, enjoy doing it, and reaping the benefit of my own efforts without having to spend a pile of money along the way.

    I've made wine before I found Paw Paw on youtube. I always thought you had to use wine making yeast, fancy air locks, carboys, sanitizers...etc. You don't need any of that, Paw Paw's simple recipe is awesome. I'm working on my 4th batch. I live overseas and don't have access to Welch's grape juice frozen or otherwise but you can use any 100% juice, just stick to the recipe and directions and you'll be fine. A big thank you to Paw Paw!

    Hey PawPaw; gotta tell you, my very first batch of your recipe--but with 100% tart black cherry juice--turned out fantastic! I used wine yeast that can handle a higher alcohol and wide temperature range. I drank half of it as soon as it was done and put the other half in the fridge. It came out between 18-20% ABV and you can definitely feel the kick! When a neighbor came over and wanted to try some, I poured her about 1 oz in a shot glass...she took ONE sip and a couple minutes later said "OMG...that went right to my head and I feel warm all over!" Yup...we are talkin' some good stuff here! LOL. THANK YOU! Oh, and since it was TART cherry juice, it did need some back-sweetening, but being on the keto diet I really didn't want to add any sugar...so a squirt of liquid stevia went in...and it worked perfectly and is carb-free. DIET WINE! :-D

    I loved the peculiar wine!!! Making a larger batch now. Also found if I put oak chips in the Welch's recipe it taste like a fine red wine that has been aged in an oak barrel. When I used char from a bourbon barrel I got at a local distillery it was delicious and I even fooled some wine snobs with it. ... they could not believe It was Welch's concentrate. ...Lol. Thanks Paw Paw

    I've made 6 batches in the last 2 years ,I have a 5 gal carboy and make 4 1/2 gal at a time . I use wallyworld cheep juice , the only thing I check for is 100% juice and no preserveritis , ascorbic acid ( vitamin c) doesn't seem to bother it . 3 cups sugar per gal , I buy wine yeast ( lalvin ec 1118 ) but I've seen a lot of videos with fleshmans used . My stuff comes out at about 17 - 19 % abv tastes good with a punch . I enjoy your channel keep it up Cheers !

    Well, I saw your welches wine video two days ago, and today I mosied on up to the local homebrew store and picked up 3 bubblers and 4 bungs.. 3 for 1 gallon bottles and 1 for a 5 gallon plastic water bottle. Paid a whopping $12. Money well spent in my book, but that's just me. I didn't want to chance making a mess in the closet! (and I really wanted to see the bubbles, I'm special like that) haha. And I'll never have to spend that money again, those bubblers are going to do the job for years to come.
    The problem I ran into was finding a glass bottle. I can't believe that no one sells mott apple juice in glass gallon containers anymore. I looked everywhere! But of course that gave me the reason to buy a couple gallons of glass bottled table wine. Moscato being one of my all time favorites. =) Oh what will I do! haha Guess it's drinking time.
    I did buy a gallon of apple juice for $2.18 I figure I'll try making cider in the plastic bottle it came in. If it fails hell it's only a few bucks gone. The local cider house makes a mean honey and black tea cider that actually put cider on the map for me. Before that I hated the stuff. Always so bland! So I figure I'll back sweeten it after it's done with a cup of honeyed tea and see what happens.
    Thanks for being an inspiration, and contributing to what I can damn well bet is going to be an obsession with making my own AFFORDABLE alcohol. Just wait until this summer.. when peaches come into season, and melons.. berries.. Oh buddy!

    One other comment, about the mention of using a balloon - and this works fine. Sometimes I've put a balloon, WITH A PINHOLE or 2 IN IT, on the top of the bottle. The balloon will inflate a little during fermentation, and the pinhole allows the fermentation gasses to escape and keeps the bugs and outside air out of the bottle/jug. I 100% agree - MAKE A BATCH, keep it simple, and get hooked. You can always play with making it fancier/more complicated, if you'd like, another time.

    I've made a lot of wine over the years - fancy and simple. It's all good. About 11 1/2 gallons in the process right now. 3 different kinds. Besides drinking it myself, it makes nice gifts for friends and family. Mostly made from fresh or frozen berries that I grew - some store-bought. I drank a bottle of homegrown elderberry wine last night. Next to be ready was made from raspberries, blackberries and blueberries - 3 gallons - haven't bottled it yet, but it's delicious. I like to make a lot because it can get smoother after aging a bit. But you're absolutely right. It's not difficult. People get intimidated and are afraid to try. Another good video. Thanks! Bout time I subscribe!

    I have been making wine this way for many years and never had any problems. I use Potassium Sorbate because some of my friends like a sweeter wine and I can add extra sugar and not have to worry about it starting to ferment again. I make it in 5 gallon batches so I have to bottle it for later use. Haven't blown any corks or busted any jars yet.

    Have you tried "Jacking" your wine yet for potency? Jacking is Freezer Distillation. If you freeze it the alcohol and water will separate. Turn your plastic jug upside down and let it drip until there is nothing but white ice left in the jug. This Doubles the potency....Whew! made that Welch's batch taste real good.

      That is EXACTLY what I just told myself. I tried to find glass gallon jugs everywhere and was horribly unsuccessful. I remember mott apple juice used to come in those.. but now it seems the only place you can find gallon glass jugs is in the cheap wine section. Well, I don't need much of an excuse to buy alcohol most days anyway. Cheers!

    • @Grizzydan

      Try as I might I can't seem to find gallon jugs for less than $15 a piece shipped to my door, same price as a jug full of wine at the store! Even in packs of 4 they sell for $30+$30 shipping! Highway robbery. I checked out a local homebrew supply, while I didn't see 1 gal jugs at the time (this was before I realized they were nonexistant in stores) the store did have 5 gallon carboys for $25, far cheaper than any I've seen online. I picked up a bunch of bungs and bubblers today while I was there and drooled over the vast array of grain and beer supplies--someday!

    • @NcalBiker
      @NcalBiker 7 років тому

      I know what you mean about the cost. That's why I'm working on this half full jug now! Why pay the same price for an empty bottle, as for a full one...)

      The one video I want to make sure you see is where I pour the juice into a Kool Aid type pitcher. So much easier to pour into a large container, add sugar and yeast, stir it up and pour it back into the original container. The excess is saved in another container.

    I watched your original video on making this wine. Made a batch on Jan 17 Just checked it and its still working but very little. I'm taking your advice and not going to try it till I am certain that it's finished doing its thing. Been 18 days so far and I'm sure by Jan 11 I'll have me some FINE DOING IT CHEAP wind. On another note, started the egg diet on Jan 23 and as of today I have lost 14 lbs. At this rate I will have to buy a new set of jeans but that's ok with me. My goal if for another 16 lbs. At least with this diet, just like you said, I always feel full and don't want to nibble . So that a good thing. I'll keep you updated. Love your video

    PawPaw just wanted to let you know Aldi's nature's nectar grape juice concentrate is the same recipe as Welch's. I worked at Welch's for 7 years & made a bunch of it. So if you like saving money & have a Aldi's close check it out!

    "Wine out of tea" ...It's called Kombucha lol. Been around for thousands of years, just let it sit and ferment on the counter, and it gets stronger and stronger, and the alcohol content goes up :)

    PawPaw, I am not a drinkin man myself but I did enjoy this video. Thanks for the rithmatic lesson. I can't do them math attics no more, my knees won't let me climb up there! Keep doing what you are doing. BTW I am an old USAF Security Police Ssgt.

    • @dickditty480
      @dickditty480 7 років тому

      Paw Paw's recipe is the same as the old USAF recipe, it's a surprisingly good quality wine to be so simple and cheap. I learned about it from watching my dad (USAF Ssgt) and his buddies do it. It's the same recipe right down to the Welch's, and it's time tested. I don't drink either, but wine is a good low tech way of preserving the juice. I quit math too when they told me naught divided by naught = 1. Naught divided by naught = hardtimes; so you best be puttin' up some wine.

    PawPaw You suggest a closet with a water heater would be a good place to age the product (suggestion) a old refrigerator with a small light bulb in a tincan to keep it dark works great. A 100 watt gets to hot so I'm experimenting with a timer and smaller bulb. What is the temperature we do not want to go over. Is there a "perfect" temp to try and meet... Thanks for all this great information.

    PawPaw, I love your videos and have recommended them to my FB wine groups. Also to my Cajun cooking group. BUT, fyi, tea wine is amazing and works so well with your methods. It is especially delicious with a base like your grape juice wine. Like you, I only use yeast and none of the other chemicals most people depend on. When it clears I like to see the sediment at the bottom of the bottle, personally. I have a book of old, old wine recipes that I use but ignore all additives other than the yeast. That is where I got my tea recipe. Looking forward to viewing more of your videos.
