I agree Robert, the Rolls Royce Conways had an amazing harmonic, specially 4 of them at slightly different pitches. You cannot hear such a lovely sound on sny present day airliner.
Flew on BA061/London Heathrow to the Seychelles via NBO and DAR in Tanzania in April 1976. Incredible flight, very powerful and a smooth flight. Excellent service and meals on board. British Airways were superb!! 🇬🇧🏴
I can only imagine. I never did get a VC-10 flight and being up close and personal during this visit to Vancouver was the best that I did with the type and I’m grateful for that.🙏🙏
Had the privilege of flying on a vc10 from Brize norton to Kai Tak, Hong Kong back in 1980. I remember the captain was a Sqdn Ldr from Canada. I was 7 yr old at the time and they let me sit in the flight deck and talk to Atc in Hong kong 😁 Beautiful aircraft, still my favourite.
Just stumbled across this footage and realised it's me in the orange vest! Finally ready to depart Vancouver after a long week trying to fix several serious fuel and hydraulic leaks. My final flight on VC10's after a priveleged 20 years flying on them.
Magic stuff! I was hoping to attend Cold War Jets this may to sample her sights and sounds but covid put that on he back burner, plus the sale of the Bruntingthorpe airfield to a new owner.
Hi Steve, yeh I had fond memories of this trip not just because I was part of the crew as it was a chance for me to see my cousin and his family and to see aunt sortly before she passed away.
Love this British Airliner....no plane commercial plane flew higher or faster or even quiter at the time, it broke records for crossing the Atlantic in record time that still stands to this day (subsonic record, another British plane, concorde, holds the record for supersonic travel). Technically it was far superiour to the 727 too, but because of the enormous power of these magnificent engines, needed because of BAs empire routes being 'Hot n High' the 727 was slightly more economical...however, flights using the VC10 were nearly always fully booked, passengers activly choose to fly these planes because in flight it was so quiet! Could easily have been a true world seller if the engines werent as powerfull? Yeah really, if they WERENT as powerfull!
Hi Steve .. that was amazing that the Vancouver visit turned out to be your final VC10 flight. I was over in Brize this past Spring and will come over again I hope in Spring 2013 for some more filming from the approach. Once the last aircraft retires next summer I hope to release another DVD on the VC10. I can't get enough of the VC10 .. what a fabulous aircraft! If you can send me your mailing address I shall send you the Vancouver DVD with my compliments.
Who is the guy at the back of the plane, I mean is he a Flight Engineer? And why does he seem to wait for the engines to spool up to idle and watch the cone falling over before going inside the Aircraft? What does that tell you that instruments would not?
Shame they are getting retired very soon. I believe only two or three will be kept (one for Duxford Air Museum) whilst the remainder are to be cut up. Some already have.
Indeed, Britain was the global leader of airline building in the late 40s and early 1950s. There were so many different types of Airliners that were produced in the UK and they were high-quality airplanes. Look at the VC-10 … such a SUPERB airplane no pun intended. My only regret is I never got a flight on a VC-10 although I tried.
Innmy opinion, the best sounding engines ever made!

The sound of those Rolls Royce Conway's is positively spine tingling :-).

These Rolls Royce Conways sound so great they should be protected by UNESCO !!

Just imagine it with BOAC livery. Back to the sixties.
Gavin Sharp I saw one with BOAC livery at duxford
My favourite days at LHR, surrounded by the sound of RR Conway, P&W JT3D and the heady aroma of Jet-A1 fuel! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love the ground guy walking into the nose at 00:15.
Love those Conways! nice video.
The sexiest commercial aircraft.
Rolls Royce knew how to make engines sound good...love 'em all. Obnoxious symphonies LOL

Amazing DC -9
Is a Vickers VC-10, not a DC-9, VC-10 have 4 engines and the DC-9 have 2 engines.
Amazing Illusion IL 62 😁

The beginning of my hearing loss saga.
Sadly I can believe it. Conways had a lovely sound unlike anything quiet and boring today. But the audio dangers were a major factor.
This was a phenomenal Aircraft, beautiful 😉,sleek, and very sexy Aayyyyyy!!!!!!
I am appreciative I got to document this footage of its visit. The full 40 minute show streams at JetFlix.TV
@@JetFlix I will check it out.
Thanks 😊

Does Rolls Royce still build jet engines?
The British built some beautiful, effective aircraft wish they still did...
Yes Rolls Royce still builds jet engines, in fact they're the second largest manufacturer right now after General Electric.

Makes me nervous watching this man stand so close to those intakes. Danger of ingestion?
J. O. All is a days work for these mtce engineers, I don’t think it was his first rodeo.
When the uk could actually build something.they couldn't make the tyre valve caps now
