I got offered an agency shift for Freshlinc on a flat rate. I was told it would be 10 hours work and the rate was reasonable for that. When I arrived on time the truck was still out with the day driver and turned up 3 hours later. The driver, also on a flat 10 hour rate, had just got back on a 15 hour day. I told the agency I had 7 hours left so they could either reduce the workload or agree to pay an hourly rate for all hours over 10. They insisted I did the full 10 hours work plus 3 hours wait for the flat rate. I told them where they could shove their flat rate and went home. I have never before refused a shift I turned up for in 30 years but I am not driving a truck for minimum wage.
When I was a young boy I wanted to driver lorries. Life got in the way and I never did it. About 10 years ago I decided I wanted to have a go. So I started...medical...licence...theory...etc etc. Then I started watching UA-cam videos of drivers experience. Honestly it did put me off but it give me a new appreciation (beyond the driving skills) of the kind of patience and good nature you need to have as a driver to do this job and not get burnt out. Good video shows the reality of trucking
As somebody who deals with live incidents and enquiries relating to our major connecting road network. I would like to commend your driving skills and alertness to your surroundings, it's excellent. Keep, keeping safe on the roads. Cheers 👍
Hi Raul Love your videos, you are a real old school driver with a wicked sense of humour. I worked in international transport for nearly 40 years as an Operations Manager. My first 18 years were near Mansfield, great friendly people but a lot of people seem to dump their cares with no consideration for other motorists 🤣 Friendly banksmen helped you here 👍
Im a newly passed driver mate, been at it for about 4 weeks now on containers, loving it to be fair and I watched some of you’re videos. When I’m delivering I normally put the post code in the truck nav then put the post code also into google maps and that gives a precise location which is handy for places you don’t know 👍
Exactly what I do search for company on Google make sure its right address not head office if that's different takes you right to it. Occasional place won't have that fair enough but it makes life easier and only need extra help when on doorstep some places you could drive right passed and not see lol Tom Tom's still can try to stitch you up though 😂 so keep eyes peeled always
I'm a driver that recently passed who lives in Mansfield. There are a lot of 7.5t roads and low bridges around the outskirts. So I'd always recommend using the correct SatNav to help with it. I've seen no end of lorries stuck under them. I've delievered on Old Mill Lane (first industrial estate) and I know how difficult it is getting around up there. The first turning at those traffic lights catches drivers out a lot too.
I drove for a firm delivering boilers, cylinders etc to the same places you go to, all were tight, but often you would get three or four drops on the same estate…Plymouth was one, would drive from drop to another without closing the curtains. They were always quick tips ( except the plumbing RDCs) always tea and toilets available, and often showers. Loved it.
Done a few loads out of your place in Warrington as an owner driver. Best route I’ve done so far was, Penzance area 😀 Glad to see they’re looking after you. Don’t stop moaning about things though as it’s hilarious 🤣🤣
If you had turned right when you came out of the first industrial estate the second one you went to is ten minutes away instead of going alway through the town I know I live there
Cant believe you was in my hometown mate !! Interesting to see it from your perspective. Not many decent places to go for pints round here to be honest mate. 😂
Love your vids. They obviously don't think about the delivery side of things when they build some of these shops! Can you tell me what you drive? It looks automatic?
you was saying to be reasonable to people do favours well iv been like that all my life and all people was doing was taken the piss out of me asking thing fevers and when i needed help no one helped me so now evreyone can go and do one cause i wont help no one now
Stitch up Friday lol. I got sick of it so started 4 on 4 off, best thing i did Raul. They can stick as many hours on me as they like but i know 4 days off is coming so carefree 👌 Do you ever get trunks on days or just multi drops? Night work for them was so easy! Good realistic vlog 👍
ayup Raul......Did my training to be come a class 1 in mansfield/sutton in ashfield last year. Im glad i did because if you can drive there you can drive anywhere! London? piece of piss if you can navigate mansfield! lol
Hi Raul. Always enjoy your videos. How to you compare driving in England with other European roads? In Poland where I'm from, roads are better but the driver culture is worse.
Compared to Estern Europe it is definitely better, but like you said the road surface seems a bit worse in the UK. My favourite country to drive is Italy
Raul, it never ceases to amaze me how many small manufacturing companies there are tucked away in UK backwaters like Mansfield (sorry Mansfield). These are the powerhouses that will drive the UK economy in the years ahead. Thank you for a very interesting video, as usual..
Raul: "I'm not in a good mood today." Me: "Oh no, I wonder why?" Raul: "I'm in Mansfield." Me: "Oh, right." I'm just kidding! I've never been there, so I've no idea what it's like. It's just the way he said it. 🤣
Why do lorry drivers always complain about everything... Drove an artic agency for 5 years, don't do it if you don't like it, but most if they didn't have a class 1 licence would be un employable...
Your lucky at the Industrial Estate in Mansfield, the first one. Usually it is packed and you can not even get down that road, let alone get into the place you pulled into.
Having just passed c+E I checked the wages and they seem good but even watching you with all your experience it seems very stressful. This country just isn’t made for big lorry’s especially not all these little estates.

Legend, everyone needs this attitude.
Well done
Never had a shift longer than you were told it would be in 30 years? 😂
well done, I would have done the same if i was paid per shift
@@FordyHunt Yes loads of times but got paid the hours I worked.
The golden rule of trucking.
Don't ever planning to do something after work, because everything starts going wrong at the beginning of shift.❤😂😂
Very true
I am paid by the hour and I have received some very pleasant surprises on payday.
I keep plenty of healthy frozen meals in my Freezer.

Do not cross until the green man "flashes".
Best of luck with everything going forward 👍👍
Jesus Christ JESUS lol 😂 funny shit bro. 😂👌
I was in Mansfield the other day. Had couple collections there. Everything seems to be tight over there. Love the content. All the best Raul :)
It's tight everywhere? 😄
@@Raul689 Pretty much :)
my home town looks so diffferent up high,
Makes me nervous seeing how close you get to all the parked cars I don't think i'd stomach hgv driving!
The joys of UK trucking 😂😮

Get a job as a postman
Stop moaning if you don’t like the pressure or the work don’t do it SIMPLE
If you don’t moan you can’t be a truck driver. It’s the law.
