Drake has been an actor his whole life. He started as a TV actor. Then he went to acting like a rapper. Then he went to acting like a tough guy. The only real thing about him is he's a sensitive Canadian. Cole had the best verse on his 23 track album. The rest is mid. That's what got him pressed.

I don't understand why more people don't call him out for this. In old footage he talks like a white man. Then becomes a rapper and starts talking in a black accent and saying "mayne" and the n word (soft a) and all that. He's a white man pretending to be a black gangster rapper and it's embarrassing for a near 40 year old man.

Thats why I fully agreed with Joe on this one. Drake was a trend setter to a new generation over 10 years ago despite everyone (including myself) called him soft like charmin. But you cant deny that when he makes songs when he is emotional, He can really make some great music. But now since he’s pushing 40, he’s been regressing and now acting like a 20 year old. Goes around Sleeping with 22 year olds on the regular and also hanging out with Lil Yachty as his best friend. It’s like imagine seeing one of your best friends from college who is now 35 and he’s still out clubbing with 21/22 year olds. Having to call those people his slime and that he’s always down for the gangy. Like the Shit is cringy af to watch and kinda sad to see, especially if you’ve been listening to Drake since the late 2000’s/ early 2010’s.

In regards to mentality 2011-2015 Drake would absolutely clown 2019-2023 Drake, everything this guy is today is everything he said he was above when he came into the game. Damn near 40 y/o and he's sending rants and disses on ig to everyone & anyone who is critical of him, you couple that with the silly stuff he's been doing with his look and you're seeing a grown man who spends too much time around 20 year olds and it's even more evident in the music.
The last hope i had was when i thought the Pusha T debacle and being a Father would be the turning point of his career and he would go mask off & evolve as Jay Z did taking his music more seriously leaving behind Drake the entertainer to show us who Drake is as a man, instead he became a man-child. This downward spiral of his quality of content & character has been disappointing & cringy to watch.

It’s very easy to spot when artists don’t care, are lazy, don’t have full creative control, or are just following a formula, *only* rather than using a formula to create something they care all about.
A lot of the times, that and people’s observations like OP’s can be attributed to the record label influence, and is not denying the artist their deserved respect or kudos.

More R&B influenced Drake from the 2000s-early 2010s was a Top Sirloin paired with a Merlot, now he's just a Big Mac with a small Diet Coke.

Drake tops the charts, but that’s because he appeals to the lowest common denominator. He’s the McDonalds of rap - everyone tolerates it, it’s exceedingly average, is universally mainstream, but at the end of the day, it’s nothing special. No one would ever logically compare Fast Food to a 5 Star Restaurant (which would be Kanye, Travis, Kendrick, etc.).
I wouldn’t have any issue with Drake if it weren’t for his annoying ass fans who call him the GOAT bc they think high sales & popularity = high quality & talent, when in reality Drake got his entire sound & style from two artists who far surpass him musically and through their influence - Kanye & Wayne.

Let me play devil's advocate here. You know, when you're a musician, you're super sensitive and vulnerable when you put your music out there. So, if someone criticizes your work, it hits you hard. It's not easy to get unless you're also a musician or some kind of artist, you know what I mean?
I make music too, but let's be real, I'm nowhere near Drake's level, haha! And honestly, I probably never will be. But I get where he's coming from, you know?

I used to be the one of the biggest Drake fans but I definitely agree with Jamari he hasn’t really put together a solid cohesive record since Views. Even More Life and Scorpion had to grow on me. Outside of Sticky (because it was catchy) and like 3 or 4 songs on Dark Lane Demo Tapes I haven’t listened to anything off of Her Loss, Honestly, Nevermind or Certified Lover boy. I think I made it 60% of the way through For All The Dogs and realized I wasn’t even paying attention so I just turned it off. On the other hand I have listened to Room for Improvement, Comeback Season and So Far Gone a few times over this year and even though it’s not peak Drake I still feel like it’s better than this mess he’s been releasing these past few years.

drake recently trended in my country (singapore) only because he mentioned us in one of his songs. his lyric wasn't even factually correct, he was basically calling us a poor country when we're one of the richest. i don't think anyone was offended, trust me we have much more things to worry about, but it just makes him look dumb. i feel bad for his fans...

It comes off like he's angry and if you're sensitive or soft then yeah I guess you'd be triggered but he actually cares about the music and is a super Drake fan.
