- Bulla Ki Jaana Main Kaun, a crowd favourite song from the early 2000s in India and Pakistan, is one of Rabbi Shergill's most memorable songs ever. The origins of the song lie in a very old, a very philosophical and a very practical Sufi poem by Punjabi Sufi poet and philosopher Bulleh Shah.
Rabbi Shergill did a wonderful job of converting the poem into a song that has enjoyed being in almost every Hindi & Punjabi speaking 90s kid's playlist at some point of time.
Due to its lyrics, I find this song to be amongst the most meaningful and philosophical songs ever. In this video, I wanted to share the meaning of these words, written by Bulleh Shah and sung beautifully by Rabbi Shergill. The meaningful lyrics will definitely leave you with some food for thought.
The core lesson of the song is around the topic of self awareness, using the age-old concept of neti neti. Check out the video for more. :)

Absolutely true
After 2004 when last year I listened to this song almost after 20 years. The song still holds power to transform and beauty of telling a lot about life in simplest way. Bulle Shah wrote this poetry such amazingly that it is still relevant and will be forevermore. Hatts off to Rabbi Shergill for singing it so beautifully. It's because of his voice that I'm in love with this song.

Thanks for explaining for non native punjabi speakers. I have slightly different view on it.
He is saying that he is an ordinary human first. He is not good, nor his is bad. He cant be differentiate by higher or lower class and cast. He is average. Last he says i only know myself better, and not anyone should judge him because he is smart enough to understand himself.
Like all true wisdom, this song/poem has different levels to it. And what level resonates with you of course corresponds to the level of your consciousness at the moment.
So, while what you are saying is right, there is a higher level it is alluding to, which is what I have tried to share in this video too.

Jiss sense mein aapne upar iss gaane ke baare mein do lines likhi, and jiss sense mein maine "Neti-Neti" word ka use kia hai, usme kuch difference nahi hai.
