Unless they are offering refundable OBC , this is just a way to keep most of your money. Purchasing anything onboard will be much more marked up than the extra 20% they are pretending to give you. If they are willing to refund you any unused OBC they gave you then that makes it a little less objectionable.
I'm wondering about the deposits. If nonrefundable, they've gotten more bookings with the 20% that may never be used, if they stand firm with pricing.
In other words they’re asking you to provide a lot of info they already know about you and of the updated pricing which is on their own website. They’re making you do ten things when there’s a far simpler process they could take if they really wanted to. Also, the price can drop lots after the final payment as well which you aren’t covered for.
so basically a "price match" which often turns out not to be valid for some reason. Another marketing gimmick.. I don't know how agents can keep up with all of this stuff. I think the old system as described by Allison makes more sense and is really better for the passenger. They are just making it more difficult for lower fares. Not impressed with this promo

Seems like Princess wants the sales benefits of having such a policy, while hoping a lot of customers won't notice price drops or bother with the claim process. It leaves a bad taste.

I just booked a cruise within the August 1st and December 1st window and got princess plus ,so now I will get double the cruise points ! Thank you for informing us about this opportunity Allison! Now I will be elite on my March cruise! I'm so excited!
As you said, Princess has said before that the earliest price is the best price and that was not true. Booked on Sept cruise on the Sun about 5 months ago. Just before final payment the price went down 25%. Refared to save $1400. Check prices just before and after final payment date to find deals
This "price is only going to go up" strategy works great for them until it doesn't. A risky strategy if something such as war, pandemic, economic downturn or a black swan event happens. And then, hoo boy!

Uh-oh, they may be planning to keep prices up more so than before. I've had price drops in the past and got adjustments. The difference now is that they're adding 20%. That may be in an effort to encourage bookings. If price drops become rare, they get more bookings without risking the 20%. 🤔 It'll be interesting to see if cruises beginning 1 July, that qualify, will have refundable deposits. Good info!!

I have to thank you again Allison for all your timely information and the precise way you present it. You make it easy to understand and you are right in the respect that each individual has to be satisfied with what they purchase. I love cruising, am Elite on Princess and change is always inevitable with anything especially in the competitive cruise industry.
I hope it’s not just a marketing ploy to make it harder and more confusing for people. Onboard credit is inferior to a refund of the extra money.

So, they figured out how not to lose anything when the price goes down. You're going to spend your onboard credit and probably more.
exactly....now you can't get your money back...they keep it and yes you can spend it on board but many already have purchased in advance their excursions etc. and just want a refund.
Like the strategy you said they’d announced a few months ago, that prices would never be lower than they were when launched. That was never believable. And didn’t last a day. Just marketing hype surely. And won’t apply to package deals or other discounts.
Question, I’m a new travel agent. I usually promote trip insurance within 3 weeks of booking so clients can get pre-existing conditions covered at no extra charge. If I re-price a cruise, is that actually booking a new cruise? If do, does that travel insurance transfer?
I've had price drops in the past with adjustments and no rebooking. Everything stayed the same, but price went down.
you might want to talk to your Princess rep and get more details. People posting here are for the most part not travel agents.
I’ve been with Princess since 2007, I just don’t trust them. I am a platinum member with nine cruises and 120 sea days. Princess “used to have” price mag guarantee on shore excursions… that quickly failed when they realize they could not match shore excursion prices purchased on your own. Princess has no credibility in my eyes, when they had price drops for this cruise I’m taking July 12, 2024, it was like pulling teeth to get them to drop the price. This likely be my final cruise aboard princess or any mainline cruise due to very bad policies, larger, and larger ships, and poor customer service.
You won't be cruising at all if you expect perfection. That sounds counterproductive. 🤔
I just tried to look for what the price of my cruise is currently. My cabin category and location is showing as "Not available". How can I see if the price is any better if I can't see the pricing information?
Do you think most TA’s will do this for clients? I usually book myself because I have not found a good TA.
don't count on most TAs double checking your fares and contacting you. In effect they are losing commission each time they do this. Allison is unique and frankly don't know how she does it all including the groups, daily shows and full time agent work.
Allison is a good travel agent. You should use her.
