    I have to point out that this teacher is top notch. He's got a gift for explanation and relating ideas verbally that isn't easy to master - his dialog has a lovely push and pull to it that's not overwhelming. I appreciate his lessons.

    "...If you are sounding good in the practice room, you are not practicing..." At the core, we're all about solving problems, about challenging ourselves. That means struggling and trying over and over, until we "get it".The satisfaction does not last very long, so we start the process all over again, because that's where "life´s meaning" is found. Great videos Adam, keep it up!

    33 minutes into this lesson, and seeing you struggling to internalize this cool little 2 bar groove (being an expert yourself ) makes me wonder, how good as a teacher you are. There are numerous lessons on YT, yet you came up with this simple little idea to explain how important it is to practice out of the comfort zone. This is one of the most beautiful teaching videos on YT in my honest opinion and thank you for that. It is almost 2 am here in Bangladesh, and I am looking at my electronic drum kit, and can't wait for tomorrow to hop in and try this exercise out! Cheers man and hope you continue doing these cool stuffs!

      I like the honesty of the video and your comment.
      Seeing how he deals with the struggle is an important lesson, too.

      He struggles, only to show you that it is okay and normal to struggle. In reality, he can play this beat in his sleep with one arm tied behind his back!

    This is outstanding, Adam. It explains & demonstrates your philosophy as an educator with a POV, vs someone whose platform simply teaches a lick, then another, then another, then…

    Thanks for sharing your method Adam. Been doing the time marks stuff: 5 minutes of hand technique, 5 minutes of foot technique, 5 minutes of time practice (really slow and with click gaps), then 15 minutes of the concept that my teacher gives me (linears at the moment) and then jam freely.
    What I've found very interesting from your method are those 'Studying' and 'Pause' marks, the mental-side of the practice routine is pretty important. Gonna give it a try right now!

    Yes,I agree 100%. My brain doesn't like or even accept the new information, the more I revisit the concept or idea, the better it gets, even if I like the idea. I liken it to making tracks in the snow, the more u go back and forth the deeper the tracks are embedded in your brain and your memory muscles. Be careful though, if you keep doing these practice techniques badly or inaccurately they will also get embedded and are very difficult to get rid of ! Like my teacher says practice them slowly without making mistakes, then speed up slowly.

    Hi Adam , thank you ak much for this fruitful lesson 😊
    I seldom look into videos that are more than 10 minutes long . but your title has caught my attention and ive been struggling to get things right on my end when it eegards to practice . you have cleared my doubts regarding practice !
    but i do have one question . after getting used to the pattern that i am working on be it a groove/fill , when does practising with click come in ? like which tempo should i start with , start slow or the tempo that is in my mind ? many thanks ! 😊

    Awesome lesson, I have been researching which of the many online drum learning subscriptions to subscribe to and I think I found the one I am going to join. I love this, my practice routine now is horrible after watching this I am actually looking forward to my next practice. One question I have is do you recommend I go see someone local to make sure my hand technique is good? I have been trying to lean Everlong by the FF and my LH (I am a RH drummer) gets a little tired and painful when doing it after about 40 seconds or so into the intro. Pretty sure not gripping too tight. the stick feels very loose, just wondering if I need to just power through it.

    • @AdamTuminaro
      @AdamTuminaro  7 місяців тому

      Glad to hear it my friend! A local teacher for the specific purpose of checking your technique is a great idea! It’s not 100% mandatory, but it can absolutely save you some time if you find a teacher who’s studied technique.
      There is an extensive technique course my site, but as you know, that doesn’t mean I can assess your personal technique. I would just caution to be very selective in looking for your local teacher, and make sure their technique is solid and their style aligns with yours!

    • @AdamTuminaro
      @AdamTuminaro  Рік тому +2

      So… how do you think musicians are supposed to talk?
      I’ve intentionally practiced speaking on camera for 15 years because I believe it makes me a better online educator.
      My guess is that if articulate, rehearsed, precise speech makes you “tired”… you’ve been listening to too many dummies on UA-cam. Lol.
