I know Japanese made a lot of weird shoot'em up, but I'm not gonna lie, a game like this isn't weird, I like shoot'em up with fantasy theme like this game.
When you realize Artemis and the male lead, Apollo, as brother and sister, and their incestuous vibes this game kinda pushes off, the game kinda feels weird after that.
Never heard of this game before - holds all the best from Gradius and Abadox in occult Dragon's Fury style! And music is perfect! Seems a good arcade port. Just wow!
This game terrified me as a kid. It was addictive but there's something so sinister about it, especially the creepy lo-fi sound. I got the feeling it was scarring me for life. As an adult, I can confirm: thus far scarred
"Low quality sound"? If we were talking about some crappy Western game than yeah it probably would have horrible sound, but this is Namco, straight from Japan, they knew how to make good FM music.
I can´t believe that there is anyone who beat this game,its so hard,i only take it to the 3. level,the fucking flying horses from the back killed me every time...!
This game have awesome graphics and art for its time , but is true that the lack of powerups makes it a bit boring , and the final boss is ridiculously resistant.
It's also missing all the cool scaling effects that the arcade version had. While the game is good fun, it just loses some of that flair and appeal that the arcade version had.
@@Bloodreign1 Technically, it isn't missing the scaling effects. The scaling when entering castles is smooth and indeed real-time scaling, but the other one in Stage 2, while also real-time scaling, runs at 1 FPS.

Japanese developed games tended to sound much better than western made Genesis games. The better Cube sound driver Japan used, versus the GEMS sound driver that plagued a number of western developed games.
This was one of my favorite games. I couldn't beat the final boss by charging my sword. I would tap A, B, and C as fast as I could. Took a bit longer too but once I got used to his pattern it was easy.

Well, I myself only got thru that part by pausing & un-pausing so often some would call it "cheating." A lot of those guys from behind can be led to smash themselves against the sides, giving you more room to avoid the ones who don't. I also have to "cheat" (slow-motion) to survive Siren. I still haven't managed Antaeus, with those unpredicatble arms from the sides.

A Mega CD version, with the arcade version's scaling and rotation along with the extra speech and cut scene animation, would've been exceptional.

This was the 2nd Genesis game I played after Altered Beast, in 1990/1991. It remains my favorite Genesis game of all time!

You have to lure those guys into smashing against the walls. Otherwise they'll get you every time!
