Vintage Westinghouse Traction Freight Elevator in Baskin Enginnering Bldg at UCSC in Santa Cruz, CA

Although an epic elevator in this building is being modernized, since the building needed an elevator, they used the freight elevator, a vintage Westinghouse traction elevator! Listen to the epic motor! Westinghouse fixtures. Notice that the bottom part of the door is solid. Manual doors. There is an elevator operator. The call buttons are covered up. Instead, doorbells are used. This does not make sense at first, but this is because the operator actually waits outside of the elevator with the door open when no one is using the elevator. This is a 2 speed AC powered elevator. Notice that when leveling going down, it slows down, stops above the floor, starts moving again at the slow speed, and stops at the floor.

I've watched a lot of those freight ones you filmed Dieselducy including King of Prussia Mall. I guess more elevator enthusiasts have not rode these than I thought.
