      the point about politicians is..
they are mostly corrupt to one degree or another in the USA ( sadly)
and MANY of them take money from companies who make weapons
and those companies dont like their expensive planes, being put to sham, by a bargain-bin plane
so they pay their politicians more money and then they lobby in government to get rid of the cheap ones and buy expensive ones..
      hope that helps

Money buys jobs. That's why some of those big money items have components made in 38 different states. The more expensive a program the harder it is to cut because of the effect on the Representatives' and Senators' constituents. The people you saved $5 don't vote on it. The person's family you cost a $100,000 a year job do.

They used to have several Dragonflies at our local Air Base. You would see them out for training flights. You would see them on display when they would have their yearly Air Show. They are a small plane.

11:05 its not so much corruption, in the government, your budget each year is based on what you spent last year, for every department, and if some of that budget isnt spent then the next year's budget is cut. It incentivizes spending more at every level.

A-37 was used for decades as the initial trainer jet for new USAF pilots. They aren't made anymore, so they have moved on to a modern prop job ... Texan II.

Hi! This bird sat so low to the ground that you climbed in just like climbing into your little convertible sports car, over the closed door! And yes, that was a screamer.

Most politicians own stock in a major defense contractor so more money they get the more the politicians make. That's why America spends alot on defense.

@joanncliff321, in fact, I'm in a chat channel where bots track politician stock picks so everyone can get rich off the obvious insider info these stock picks represent. Recent example: Pelosi buying call options on NVIDIA in November, reported Dec 22.

Lobbyists who represent companies influence the lawmakers. The lawmakers pick winners and losers among the lobbyists know in advance what the stock price will do.
Remember when they broke up Microsoft? Bill Gates was taught a lesson because he refused to pay politicians. Elon is having similar difficulties with SpaceX launch permits.

Our politicians need the people to believe that everything is super expensive, so that when they want to spend a lot of money it just seems like a normal amount.

The American Defense Industry is structured as follows...
They scatter the construction and manufacture of separate parts for all of the weapon systems all across the country so that if there's ever a proposal to cancel a system, it will affect multiple Congressmen, which means that there'll be less money for that Congressman's district. So more often than not, the projects stay operational. It's kinda a double edged sword in a way. It's kind of a good thing that we scatter our manufacturing around the country so that no single attack could take out the production of a particular system, but then as I stated above, the Congress folks take advantage of that and do everything they can to keep older systems going when they should be retired in favor or newer platforms. The replacement plane for the A-37 was of course the A-10 Warthog, and it's been on the chopping block several times over the last 30 years, but it always seems to find a way to survive. There is a way to design a modern, more efficient version of the plane, but the old plane still keeps on keepin' on.

Politicians decide who gets government contracts. Contractors give money to politicians. Politicians give big contracts to contractors. Simple corruption.

Ya, pretty much corruption. Maybe a senator has a "cousin" with major shares in jet engine manufacturing, or something. Suddenly they need jets.

10:40 They want to spend more because they all make money from the companies that they spend tax money on. It's the easiest way to launder tax money directly into their own bank accounts.

Politicians love big military contracts because it creates jobs and wealth for their district or state. They can then use that when running for reelection
